Are PvE queues popular or not????

stuart1965stuart1965 Member Posts: 691 Arc User
Most of the time in this game from what I have seen, the queues are always dead. Zero queuing up at various times of the day and night. Cryptic seem to be in a world of denial about this. Please do not analyes the question, a simple yes or no or other will be fine thanks.

The same as usual. Some go almost instantly while others take a little while.
CEA and ISA being their usual busy selves.

The Gorn minefield while a bit slower comes up frequently.

20 person queues such as Big Dig and Klingon Scout force usually have private matches open.

Though having said all that, i have grown a bit tired of the queues and play other content at the moment since i have no shortage of marks and dilithium.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Ques that offer the best reward to time ratio are always busy. You can que up for CCA or ISA and never wait more then a couple minutes at most. Other ques that are either too difficult to pug or do not offer sufficient rewards for time invested are empty.

This is how it will always be and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Increasing rewards in ALL the ques as you put in Option 2 will not address the problem. The quick ques will still be the most popular.
    Insert witty signature line here.

Well, eventually Cryptic will nerf the dil rewards (again) and the popularity of queus may change. But overall, people queue for quickest/easiest dil.

From my observation the queues recover slowly one year after Delta Rising. Still there remains a massive discrepancy between the different missions. In my opinion the rewards on all PvE missions that have a - - time to pop estimation should be looked after.

Rewards for those mission that are used at the moment feel fine. I advise highly against a nerf to rewards cuz the burden of Delta Rising that “queues are not worth the effort” is still pretty dominant and 30 players in ISA and CCA nothing the Devs should be proud of.

What I noticed is that a lot of Elite space PvE seem to be rejected a great deal even in DPS channels. I’m only subscribed up to gold/50k but rarely encounter any elite calls for space there. Advanced versions feel much more popular, on ground it’s the other way around.

I conclude that general elite difficulty for ground feels fine for the majority while space could profit from some adjustment.

In my opinion cryptic should do anything in they can about the queues or teamed pve maps in general. It’s the only end game contend we have. Battlezones and episode replays don’t sell ships. That content is boring, unchallenging and not long term motivating.

So many reasons on why a queue isn't done.

    1. Too difficult.
    2. Too confusing.
    3. Reward doesn't equal time put in.
    4. No Advanced/Elite queue available.
    5. Requires too many people.
    6. Cannot be puged efficiently.

    Top Space Queues:
    1. ISA
    2. CCA
    3. GGA
    4. Fez (Which is admitted to be "broken")
    5. (Is there a 5th?)

    Top Ground Queues
    1. DRSE
    2. NTTE
    3. BOTSE
    4. BHE
    5. UIE

This is just pugable queues. If you play premades then there are many more ground queues you can effectively run

Not sure actually. Pugging queues can be difficult but it appears that private queues from channels are more active.

Better rewards won't convince me to use them any more than I do now.

I agree, private queues are what's killing the public one's. I used to do the whole EliteSTf/DPS channel thing, but I just prefer public cause it's not so DPS oriented, where they have to WFP, or time up TF/IF just to max their DPS potential running ISA for the billionth time.

Sometimes a mission fails, but most don't and I am ok with that, and it's nice seeing the other ships that people use, instead of the DPS God one's. I've been hitting up older one's just to run something different now, Breach, Undine Advance, Onslaught. They have been enjoyable.

I just wish that all the channel guys would pug more, and only private up for the elite content, or when they need to do their DPS/Speed runs.

You also have some ques that require to high of a rank to play. Colony Invasion should not be a level 60 que.

PvE queues are popular by necessary.

Some people enjoy them, for the missions, the teamplay or whatever reason, some enjoy them for the marks, and some just do them because they need the mark for certain gear.

That means, that some queues are more popular depending on what marks are high demand at the time, and others are visited by mainly regulars... this means that while they are far from dead, they aren't as heavily visited as others.

Then of cause there are the private queues, that don't entirely count towards this logic.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Hive, Mine Trap, Nukara Self Destructive tendencies (not Transdimensional tactics) Big Dig, Breaking the planet, etc..
all need new rewards, preferably unique to those queues.

He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.

Queues need desirable "unique" RNG rewards that are exclusive to each and every one of them.
Its a fair request, given the sheer amount of gear in the game that's being handed out on silver platters to everyone.

Queues in general are just fine, but more needs to be done to encourage playing a diverse range instead of grinding the easiest ones over and over.
  • kylercakylerca Member Posts: 40 Arc User
I agree. These other queues need rewards unique to them so people will actually run the less popular ones. I have been playing for between a year or two now and STILL haven't played half the queues (even though actually want to; I play the queues for fun, not the grind).
    Say NO to team Omega.

Counting all the difficulty levels we have over 80 different queue missions.

That is just far too many for all of them to be popular, so of course some take forever to pop while others never do at all anymore.

I propose an idea for the queues then. My idea is to unlock certain reputations earlier based upon how far a character has advanced in the story. This is already done for the mission Bug Hunt, once a character on your account finishes the level "The Dragon's Deceit" any character on your account can play Bug Hunt, provided they are high enough level. So I say unlock Reputations after getting a character on your account to a certain point in the story.

For example, on the Fed side, Nukara after finishing the Klingon War, Romulan after finishing the Romulan story, Terran Empire after Cardassian, Omega after Borg, Voth after Dyson, Delta at/after Delta, Iconian at/after Iconian. Once one character on an account completes these requirements other characters would need to be a certain level to play in these queues. For example, starting at level 20 that character gains access to Nukara Rep and every ten levels unlocks a Rep in the order mentioned above.

As for item level, I'd say make them leveless up to Mk XII, then they go in the upgrade system for Mks XIII and XIV.

The BIGGEST issue is payout for completion for time invested. The rewards are out of whack for the other queues it's absurd. But what will likely happen is ICA and CCA will get nerfed more rather than bringing the other queues up or incentivizing slower queues.

some of the older ones need drastic redesign. Big Dig, SB 24, Klingon scoutforce...all those should be 5 men missions and get appropriate rewards.
also, there needs to be a tiered approach for access. Do all the borg STFs (with all optionals) on normal to unlock the first one (easiest ISA, or that makes sense from a story perspective) on advanced.
having access to everything at once is a little confusing for new players.
Also, story content should unlock STFs of that story arc...if you haven't done the story arc, no corresponding STF for you.

Rewards are the biggest problem with the queues these days.
Pre-DR the Borg queues would offer random numbers of neural processors and that meant you had a reasonable chance of getting lucky and scoring big. It drew in the crowds and those queues were always stuffed full.
Now, even with the new difficulty settings being ignored are barely seen to have more than a couple of hundred players in them over all difficulties.

The drop in decent rewards is the clear cause. I think the difficulty changes scared off a lot of casual players but now they've settled the difficulty back a bit there's still no incentive to play those queues.
ISA and CCA offer best rewards/time ratio so nobody plays the others as the tone is not worth it.
The big number queues are even less worth it and even the time taken to pop them make them a waste of time.

I think a partial return to the old way reward ways, high end random kit rewards and possibly a higher chance of the elite currencies would help fill the queues.
Perhaps even a rotating reward table so that a different queue each day offers the best rewards?

Don't even try and tell people that the old reward system was better (It was). For some reason whales that don't want to play the content think they "deserve" the gear that the content gave so all of that was removed to satisfy them.

This continues to happen. Whales want to be able to buy everything without playing the content. This is why STO doesn't have a progression system. It was Removed when the Reputation system came out and will (sadly) stay removed indefinitely.

Anyone else remember when there was a point to drops?

The answers are somewhere in the middle. Some queues kick off regularly. Some not at all unless you pull some buddies together for a premade. A lot of old reputation oriented queues never kick off while a few, namely Omega STFs and CC go all the time. A few faction-specific ones never happen at all due to population (especially KDF) or disinterest.

There was a time when SB24 was happening all day, everyday. It was simple, quick pew-pew. Now it's slow to pop.

Please increase the fleet mark rewards. Even if the rep rewards stay as they are, we need like 3x or 4x as much fleet marks as we are getting right now.

Think about it. Lets say you are grinding rep marks for gear. You get a space set (1500) a ground set for your captain (1500) and a ground set for all your bridge officers (6000). That's 9000 rep marks and you have everything you could want from that rep. It's done. You never have to grind those rep marks again.

One fleet project might need 9000 fleet marks. Getting your starbase up one tier could be 10's of thousands of fleet marks. Then there is all the other holdings that all need fleet marks. It's a freaking black hole. There is no end.

I've been trying to grind fleet marks for my starbase and I can't do it. I ask for donations on NoP, I have my armada helping me, I grind fleet marks every day, It's not enough. These things are about 10x more valuable than dilithium. It takes me about 2 seconds to fill the dilithium requirement - as fast as I can move the slider and click the button. The fleet marks requirements? Weeks. Months. And that's with all the help I've been getting.

Quadruple the fleet mark rewards. Even better: Start a fleet mark exchange so I can buy all the other player's fleet marks. I would gladly pay you EC or Dil for your marks.

STO used to have a rotation every day for a limited time for a bonus doing certain game events. Like Vault Shuttle Event, old school Mirror Invasion Event. This went on every day and one just had to look at the calendar for the schedule. This really needs to come back. There's tons of queued instances to throw into that rotation.

At this point, with all the options out there, I'm not sure more people would do more queues even if the rewards were increased. A lot of people that want fleet marks seem to go to Defera. If they want Iconian or Delta they go to Kobali. Not sure what I was doing on Dyson the other day but ended up with 300+ in an hour. And then of course there are people like me that just don't like to do queues all that much. I prefer to do the ground ones where I can do things at my own pace for the most part.

    Probably Voth Battlezone.

The OP's question/poll is flawed, as it covers all PvE queues. The issue is that there are many PvE missions that people seem to avoid like the plague while others are dang near guaranteed to pop. Just doing this broad brushstroke approach risks breaking elements that aren't broken.

The reason for this may very well be Time + Effort = Reward. Some of the queues don't really provide a good reward for the time and effort put into it, so people tend to not do them. Certain ones, like Infected Space, are popular because of how easy it is (although sometimes it can be tough depending on the PUG) and the reward is worth the time and effort. On the other side of the coin you're not going to see Infected Ground PUG very much because it is quite difficult for most people, and the reward is about the same as it is for Infected Space.

Though I think ground gives a few more marks than space if I remember correctly.

    In general, I say NO.

But I don't want them working on queues anymore. Outside of events, queues have been inactive for ages and the older ones, nobody bothers anymore. Cryptic needs to focus in a different way, like revering the original Fleet Actions as walk-in zones and turn Queued events into Dungeon crawls that encourages group play due to the difficulty. That's an MMO.

    QFT. That’s pretty much it.

And yea the poll is fawned, I panic-hit the “other” option earlier before I realized that the OP’s other is not my other at all.

Glad you got that one straight. :)

If the queues (or teamed pve maps for that matter) mean anything to cryptic they need to look them up, one by one and check why some aren’t running. Especially elite space maps! We run VCE regularly, FEZ a bit and HSE sometimes if we need a challenge we don’t auto-win. All the rest we leave out totally cuz even if we would bring the DPS requirements they are not worth the effort... at all. I mean even if a player got strong enough to pass the DPS checks in GGE one has not achieved that in order to be slowed down by time gates. One rather runs literally 3 other PvE in the same time elsewhere.

would like SB24 better if it had a "bad guy of the week" instead of just klinks, doing it that way would keep it fresh and unpridictable also SB24 should be a drop-in zone with a "choice of marks" reward and not a queue..........
