What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

Map Tranfer Stalls

When I try to transfer to certain maps, my client get stuck saying a specific percentage and hangs. It starts to hang around 40%. I have to kill the program and start up in order to log back in. I am not getting any error messages with this. Is anyone else having trouble. I am running the client in Safe Mode since the game is unable to use DirectX 9.

I am also encountering this. I can very consistently (100% of the time) cause this to happen with DS9. If I'm in DS9 space and dock, the game will load to 40.84% and then hang. If the game is in Fullscreen mode I can't even bring up Task Manager to end the game process, and I need to force shut down. (With the game in Window Maximized, I can use Task Manager.) When I log back in, my character is on DS9 (interior). If I log out and back in I'm fine. If I change instances I'm fine. It's only when transferring from space to ground that hangs DS9.

I'm running Windows 10, with an R9 M295X. There is no older set of drivers for my system to roll back to. I'd rather not reformat to Windows 7, but this same system worked fine before (on W7).

    Hi there

Having the same issue. I was having the occasional CTD with the option of a support ticket prior to Thursday. Since Thursday's patch, the map transfer progress freezes at around 90%. The music keeps playing in the background, then I click on the screen and I get the Gameclient is not responding with the option to close or continue.
It did it three times yesterday, and already once this morning as I wanted to start Butterfly.

I get the same problem. The bad thing is since it is hung up and not actually crashing cryptic is not getting any error reports. Started for me with the August 13 patch. Here is a thread of people with the same problem on the bug support page.
    http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums#/discussion/1201068/load-screen-crashing-freezing
    and
    http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums#/discussion/1200615/freezing-during-loading-screen-zone-changes

This one, about 3 post in, the thread changes to the game locking up on map transfers.

    http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums#/discussion/1199930/game-crashing-to-desktop-ctd-repeatedly

It may not affect everyone but it is affecting a lot of us.

It seems to happen to me more when I transfer to DS9 than anywhere else.

After more extensive testing, I've found that Safe Mode avoids crashes, but if I raise any lighting or texture settings (even from the same session that started in Safe Mode) then the hang comes back (at a different loading percentage, seems to vary based on how many settings I've changed). Obviously, playing in an 800x600 window on a 4K display is not happening so Safe Mode itself isn't a fix.

I was unable to file a bug-report in-game, so I submitted one via Arc and explicitly mentioned that the client does not appear to be generating any error reports. Maybe they can direct us to download some additional debug process that can watch STO while we replicate the issue..

I really hope the Devs fix this. This bug seems to happen to me mostly at DS9 whether switching from Sector to System, or System to Station.

Same here. I can't find a way to consistently reproduce it, but I've experienced this a dozen times since the last patch.

I've been experiencing loading screen freezes on various map transfers ever since the last patch. Game client hangs around 40% or so, and any attempts at interacting with the game reveals its frozen state, followed by a "GameClient.exe is not Responding" message from Windows, at which point I have to kill the game and restart. :(

All this despite my running the game in Safe Mode for the past few weeks, due to this bug involving the game client forcing DX11 settings, and freezing up when starting the game. The end behaviors are similar, so I'm wondering if the causes could be related.

Chiming in here as I started one of the other threads linked by atlmykl above. This started happening for me after the last patch as well. Usually I get to around 90% or thereabouts before it hangs, and it can be after a variable amount of playtime before it shows its face.

This is obviously more widespread than I had imagined.

The percentages are starting to vary for me as I adjust the graphics settings just as thescottyb had mentioned. I am glad to see that I am not the only one encountering the problem. I do hope this gets resolved soon.

Today's patch did not resolve the issue (guess I shouldn't have expected it to, no client-side graphics fixes were on the list). I tried to roll Windows 10 back to Windows 7 and couldn't boot anymore. I don't know why, when the only thing I install in Windows is STO and required hardware drivers. My installation media is from the original Windows 7 release with no service packs or updates so I am not going through that at this time.

Edit: I found a fix to my general loading issues within my Windows 10 virtual machine, and so I was able to load the game. Unfortunately, my VM also has the same map transfer hang. I'm going to try the fix in my Windows XP VM and if it doesn't crash there, it's probably related to DX11.

Edit 2: Windows XP also crashes at 40.84% when transferring from DS9 space to ground (and since it's XP, I was only running at 1080 resolution and some other settings were turned down). I don't know what to think any more.

Edit 3: I saw some new Tribble notes
which mentioned an FX fix. I got set up for Tribble and tested it. Map transitions worked fine in my virtual machine.

Hopefully this fix stays fixed long enough to make it Live!

Hi guys. I've been having the exact same problem, before and after today's patch. CTD three times this morning... then I did something that solved the problem for me. I uninstalled Silverlight. Try it on your computer and tell me if the crash problem improves for you!

We shall call it "The 40%" bug. Which, to my knowledge, has received 0% response.

I really do hope this fix comes up on the next patch. I have been having a bad time with The 40% Bug a lot more since this last patch. Were you using Safe mode, or regular mode? The notes didn't mention a fix for the forced DX11.

For people who are struggling to resolve this issue, I have three questions. Just a fellow gamer trying to help.
    1) Are you running through Steam?
    2) Before opening the game, did you tell Steam that you want DivX 9?
    3) After opening the game, did you go tell STO that you want DiX 9?

I had to do all three of those. But it works.

    For #2... http://feedback.overwolf.com/knowledgebase/articles/380198-how-to-change-a-steam-game-to-directx-9
For #3... Press escape, then Options/Display/Video Card, select "Direct3D 9 #1" and reboot the game.

    1. I am not using Steam. I am using the STO installer--not Arc.
    2. Since I am not using Steam, this does not apply.
    3. I run the game in Safe Mode since STO is currently forcing users to use DirectX 11, which I have been unable to get working with STO and my computer.

Aye, same here; typically when the loading screen shows 40.41% and the text switches to "Loading Sol System". In my case, it's happening with the OS X client, so... clearly neither hardware nor OS related. Followed all the recommended steps from "customer support" (disabled on-demand patching, enable force-verify, enable safe mode) with no change in behavior.

It looks like the last patch didn't stop the stalls. There are less frequent, but I am still getting them from time to time. I hope this gets resolved before Season 11.

My apologies Velqua I should have reposted this here. A suggestion was made in the thread I started by Dragonbreathren:

Turning on the Reduced File Streaming in advanced options has fixed this for me.

I've had this running since the weekend now and I've not really hit any stalls. Just slightly longer loading screens sometimes.

I get this constantly since mid August, I got STO on an SSD drive, with either file streaming on or off it happens costantly, i can count on it happening once per STF or every 3 social map transfers, OR everytime I leave a mission map. Somoen Suggested I use this in the command line of the LAUNCHER: SAFE MODE -d3d11Enable 0. It was working as a fix until last week patch, when it started again.

I do not use STEAM or ARC, I installed the game from my game disc.

No Steam, Using ARC or Not using ARC (I can do Both), Using Dx9, and the game still crashes even when loading in safe mode.

Most 2 recent crashes; (1) Leaving CCA back to Space at Ganalda (2) Leaving Ganalda Back to Ganalda Orbit.

Previous craches - (1) DS9 back to Orbit; (2) Vulga Mine back to ship; (3) New Romulus Orbit to New Romie Command.

So far today, all 9 of my toons have been affected across all factions. I've had to reload the frackin game so many times I'm beginning to wonder if Cryptic fixed anything with the last patch.. They clearly stated :Resolved Map Changing Issues"..

I wonder which game they REALLY fixed, 'cause this STO is still fracked..//Thanks//

This is happening to me as well, over and over. Using ARC to launch the game, have all visual settings maxed, machine is more than able to handle. Is anyone aware if STO support has a ticket for this and aware?

yeah, dev team should implement more crash monitoring tools, afer all arc is running on bacground, using extra resources, why not implement some crash/ status monitoring tools here?
or they can implement "crash monitor" option to normal game, and when turned on it will very closely monitor game status and when it crash, it will send all that info to devs in hope to fix this issue.
and yes, sto is more crashing than many other games.

i had this problem and found a link to a video in the forums and when i tried fix it seems to work fine. It mentions something to the fact that most video cards drivers come with audio drivers also and they appear to clash. I folowed video and disable hd audio driver that was clashing and everything has been working fine with no client crashesin the past few days.

Since the last patch, I was experiencing the 40% issue. In most cases, it happened when I attempted to load into heavily populated areas, such as SOL, or DS9; however, it wasn't limited to those maps. On average, I was able to play for about 15-20 minutes before a crash.

I found a solution to this problem that worked for me:
    1. Go to the folder where STO is installed. In my case, it was "C:\Program Files (x86)\Star Trek Online_en"
    2. From there, open ".\Star Trek Online\Live\localdata", or just search for "Gameprefs.Pref"
    3. Rename "Gameprefs.Pref" to "Gameprefs.Pref-old"
    4. At this point, you may want to reboot. I did for good measure.

I have not had a recurrence of the 40% issue since. I've been able to swap maps a bunch without a single crash from this issue.
