The spec points cannot be used. (oh right, it tells me to respec as well, so that's happening for me too)

I am having a problem with the Specialization points , it is telling me that I need to Respec now because my skills are invalid , yet they were not invalid just a few days ago when I earned my last Specilization point and I have not Respeced my character in quite some time. Hmmmmmm
I'm also being told to respec, except for the minor problem that the game won't let me. Clicking the respec button just closes the window and even going to the skill trainer doesn't work. It starts with my skills empty and lets me fill them in, but the 'accept' button never lights up.
I'm also getting a weird 'joined channel' message on login but that's probably something else entirely.
I'll never get over the fact that people can complain about a FREE GIVEAWAY.

I swear, the sense of entitlement in people is out of hand. Play the game or don't. You obviously need to watch Star Trek more if greed is your only motivating factor in life.
I mean, we all grump a little from time to time, and the game and developer have some flaws, but this is a pretty well-maintained game in the grand scheme of things. I've played much worse.
To the best of my knowledge, the Section 31 costume hasn't been part of a "C-store giveaway", because I've partaken of every one that I'm aware of and I just now am getting this costume...
So it must have been a livestream thing. Of course, sadly, I don't do the livestream thing, so that would explain why I don't have it yet...

Not really. Section 31 outfit was given away as a Livestream code, not part of one of these giveaway events. It was given away, but not through the same means.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
Out of interest, if I create another character in the future after today, will they also be able to claim the two spec points?
No. This is a promotion, you claim it in your promotions tab in the z-store. After the promotion is over, it will disappear.
My new characters can claim the horta and the ambassador promos they gave out before. Obviously I'd need to claim it on a current toon now, and have, but previous precedent does in fact mean that future characters will also be able to claim their two spec points, which is why I'm asking.
Didn't have a problem. And was able to repec. But, some fleet members are having problems. Only claimed on on character so far. Afraid to try my alts. Feel like I got lucky.

Ships are always account-wide unlocks, which is why they only need to be claimed on one character. The Horta was also specifically called an account-wide unlock in the promotion and when you claimed it. Nowhere does it say this is an account-wide unlock. The closest thing to "previous precedent" that I can think of for this is the recent giveaway of the Medal of Tenagra and the like, you had to claim it on every character to unlock it for them, and when the event was over, it was gone from the store.

Guys? I know it's not guaranteed that future characters will be able to get the two points, that why I was asking the devs. Whatever, we'll find out tomorrow anyway. Doesn't actually bother me much either way, I have no interest in using alts ever since DR hit and two spec points isn't going to change that.
We're currently looking into the issue where Captains are being told that they need to respec.
Not just asking them to respec, but also preventing them from respec'ing properly (e.g if your defense skill was 6 before going to respec, you can increase it, but you can't decrease it during the respec, it automatically set it to 6, wherever you click in the bar).
Granted, it's ironically fitting, considering the events of the latest episode.
Still, this is a nice promotion, especially since it's for every character instead of once per account, thank you, people.
I think i know what happens (thoug i might be wrong) - i tried to do Respec with skill oficer, but his dialog shows 0 Respec Tokens, so the game registers skill error, but the Respec Token (which normally - i think - is given automatically whe skill got botched) is not assigned, so i can't reset skills....
Edit - as of now i tried 4 toons - all specialisation points unusable....
You can claim and open the pack without encountering the bug. The bug only comes into play if/when you try to spend the points (any spec points actually, not just the promo ones).
I did spend the points, and it seemed to work okay. That doesn't mean there is not a problem. I'm not trying it on any more characters until it's fixed.
