The Star Trek Online team is pleased to announce the epic conclusion of the five-year Iconian War story arc with Star Trek Online: Season 11 – New Dawn!
Well now, new season will be fun. And I want to know how we beaten the Iconians. If we used something involving time travel I would not be surprised if this new civilization is the cause of that or one of the reasons. Time travel is a tricky thing and can make anything disappear and reappear.
Oh, and the war's over and we're back to strange new worlds, new life forms, and new civilizations? I'm sold.
This. Finally finishing up this silly war and maybe getting to do the things that I originally came to this game to do all those years ago? TRIBBLE to the yeah!
I'm also interested about this Admiralty system for sure. I have many inactive ships at this point and getting to use them again in some fashion would be great. Hopefully it isn't limited to just top tier ships. I have several low tier ships that could be used for this as well.
Just hoping it doesn't require your "inactive" ships to be equipped with consoles and weapons to be more effective for these missions.
but yeah can't wait till this boring war is over..
Personally Iiked the Feuture missions as they came out. The Story was ok but the feeling in PVE was cakewalk... press spacebar and read a book in the mean time.
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!
(paraphrased from "The Newsroom)
Hmm should I rush to lead the way in drawing a lot of negative and pessimistic thoughts? I want to keep an open mind but you make it so damn hard Cryptic.
"Take command of your inactive starships to complete dangerous assignments and gather exciting rewards, while advancing your influence in the Admiralty campaigns. Within this system, each starship is given special traits and stats that must be used to successfully complete assignments. Plan carefully which ships are sent on which assignment in order to meet their requirements and offset various hazards, in an effort to yield great rewards across any of three separate campaigns."
So are starships becoming doffs now? This is how I initially saw it so guess I'll expect an assignment where "Guess what folks? Best odds can only be gotten from a lockbox ship or c store." Doffing with doffs, sure you can get free doffs and even have a chance at getting purples or upgrade them to purple. Overall not that bad but starships? Something tells me this is going to be heavily tied to the c store and lockbox system. PR reason? "We want to reward those that pay." (or something to that regard).
This seems both right and wrong, right that paying players get a bonus especially with ships they no longer use T5 especially but wrong because it's going to be another reason one would feel they need to buy relatively more expensive ships for something like a doff assignment for questionable increase in odds.
I'll skip the hype train and get on the pessimistic via skepticism train. I'm a ship collector so may well benefit from this but actually I'm thinking it's more likely going to be bad for the community. Wouldn't surprise me if they stick accolades on this system too.
Oh and wrapping up the biggest war that has ever existed in Star Trek in less than a year? What shall we pencil in our diary for next season? I'll save my remarks on that but Cryptic has kill my enthusiasm for STO so I've only got pessimism left. At least it will be harder for Cryptic to exceed my expectations and maybe just maybe they might be better.
So long as "sending old ships out on missions" in the Admiralty system, isn't just a reskined (or even tacked onto it) doff system, I welcome it with open arms.
If it is just a doff system where you send ships instead of officers to complete "Missions" it will be a fail before it even starts.
Just my opinion mind...
My idea of being an admiral is having my ships commanded by my choice of captain (like one of my bridge officers) in one of my other/old ships.
It would be physically one of my old ships (including consoles and weapons alike) and be in missions with me as a companion I could give orders to, like the carrier pet mechanic, but much more involved.
Sending a little picture of my ship to do imaginary missions, just wont cut it anymore...
I hope it will be like the Star Trek Armada game. A little strategy game. But I'm ecstatic even if it's only a simple doff minigame. I bought those ships for a reason... I hate to see them mothballed all the time.
I'm an honest man, I keep my promises and I promised a few "Tales of the War" back that if the Iconians end up going down easy, just having to find "The Other" or something like that, I was gonna scream...
ARRRGH!!
...Less than a dozen episodes... less than ten episodes... the big, bad, Undine-Manipulating, Romulus-destroying, Dyson Sphere-controlling, Gateway network-owning, took the whole galaxy just to drive them away 200,000 years ago "Demons of Air and Darkness"... and we 'beat' them in less than ten episodes after they show their face?
It took us longer to deal with the Undine (from pre-game to "Mindscape")! With Hakeev! With the Vaadwaur! The Iconians were supposed to be the big-bads with five years of build up and they go down this quick? I don't know if you can make 'New Dawn' good enough to make up for this anti-climax...
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
Basically it looks like this is going to be the STO version of neverwinters Sword Coast adventures where ships are sent out in the same way that followers are sent out. Each mission has tasks to complete and certain folowers (ships) arre better at some tasks than others.
Are the Iconians behind the Admiralty system ?
Are the Iconians behind the New Beginning ?
Are the Iconians behind you ... right now ?
(don't look, you might get bored)
As has been stated before - this will just be some kind of duty officer expansion thing - no actual flying around with other ships as pets or whatever.
on the other hand, the name 'new dawn' just might be more than a name. with any luck its an indication that someone pulled their head out and sto is moving in a dramatically different direction.

I'm all for exploring strange new worlds and discovering new civilizations, but there are several major races in the Star Trek universe that STAR TREK Online needs to develop more.
Specifically, the Cardassians and Dominion were the major aliens races in Deep Space Nine ... and now that we have DS9 alumni joining the cast of voice actor talent we really need more content based around the Cardassians and the Dominion.
I'm not the only player who thinks this ... and if PWE and Cryptic want to make the MOST amount of money from players like me then offer us more content (ships, missions, weapons, BOffs, etc.) from the Cardassians and Dominion.
I realize it's difficult (almost impossible) for the devs to go "all in" with a new playable faction built around the Cardassians and Dominion since you've already given us a large portion of Cardassian and Dominion ships via the lockboxes and Lobi store. However, the majority of people still playing this game are here because of STAR TREK characters, aliens and ships that we fell in love with when we watched the shows and movies.
Again, I'm happy that we're getting new content and I do like the idea of discovering new aliens, but please ... PLEASE don't forget the Cardassians and Dominion.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."
Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.
This would be great! So long as it isn't a doff system and we could call our ships into missions, much like the fleet support call - this could be great. Especially if would could promote BOFF's to captain - for example I would love to see Elisa Flores finally take command of the Vesta she wanted when she was a cadet. I would buy the Vesta just to see that!
Plus I would want to still choose the equipment. And perhaps the level of the equipment is defined by the tier of the ship.
Admiralty system? is this going to add some story based Admiral things for our Admiral characters to do? Sounds great to me, so long as we can command from our ship like Tuvok and not from a boring desk like Quinn :P
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
May i say, always a good thing to get actors from DS9 era to reprise roles in this game. Thank you Chase for coming back to the game and re-reprising your role again!

So ... the Iconian Invasion is over, but now we're going to get invaded by the Mirror Universe? YES!!!!

For the players who were saying this is a "Duty officer" type of thing, do you have proof of this? If so, share it.
