As others have said, this looks more like a T6 Vesper or another Avenger variant. Similar shape with the only thing resembling the Excelsior being the secondary hull. IMO a failure and that means 2500-3000 Zen less for Cryptic, because I really considered this ship, but not with a hideous model like this.
This craze of oversized nacelles and chevron saucers needs to stop, or at least offer alternatives, like on the Guardian cruiser.
Mind you, the rating is in my case only based on the new model alone, the stats of the Excelsior have always been above average for cruisers, so they are fine.
I gave it a B simply because its nothing real special, however with the new pictures I like it more than I did yesterday. The stats are simply OK again nothing to spectacular. Will I buy this ship Knowing that at some point in the future a T-6 Galaxy Dreadnaught will be available, and T-6 flagships? Honestly I'm on the fence. I bought the T-6 Battlecruiser, however with the summer event have had little time to REALLLY put it through hell and see how it does. I own JUST ABOUT every C-Store ship available.. some ships I have only played for a total of an hour or less because there are SOOOOOOO many ships. Now I would REALLY like to see is a T-6 Nebula!! I know its a science ship but science seems to be once again the TRIBBLE child of STO. If a T-6 Nebula appeared,, with 4 fore and 3 aft ( never happen I know but I can dream) With a design close to the original nebula but updated I would throw my wallet at the screen! Hear me Cryptic? T-6 Nebula and TAKE MY MONEY NOW!!!!

Voted B cause I dont like the nacells and pylons, the spoon-saucer doesnt fit this ship well imo. Stat wise its boring but effective so B. Still not worth the insane $$ price they put on t6 ships. Pixel crack is NOT worth $20 or $30 or more.
One of the laziest, least creative designs in a while. Doesn't stand out from the pack. Has no grace or elegance like the original Excelsior. Secondary hull is reminiscent, but then they stopped there and just decided to make the rest of it look like every other boring ship in the game.
I love the original Excelsior and as this can use that skin, I would have jumped with both feet except...
I already have a TAC Command Cruiser and this is just a downgrade.
Trades the Hanger for Weapon Efficiency, bad deal. With all the power options we have today, I frankly don't think weapon efficiency is that important.
Trades the Tac Ensign for an Engineering one, bad deal. If one has Kemocite Laced Weaponry at least.
Straight downgrade of the Hybrid Seat from Cmdr. to Lt Cmdr.
Simple loss of the Lt. Hybrid Seat
Gains nothing for the loss of Inspiration
Inferior Trait
Inferior Console
To buy this is to buy it for the looks. They can take their 2410 "visual update" and shove it where the light doesn't shine. And while I love the original look, I can't make myself pay for this.
The Ensign slot at least should have been a universal. And even then... it needs something more.
I hope (Trendy and other mods!) this isn't considered making multiple threads, but I thought this would be an actual LOGICAL use for our new poll-making ability. Plus, I'm genuinely curious about this.
The stats are out, we see the visuals, and on the 16th, anyone can buy this ship. So, how would you grade it? Explain your grade in the comments!
It simply doesn't add anything I desire. The setup isn't as flexible/maneuverable/powerful/etc. as the Arbiter I just got, isn't T6-11 out-of-the-box/capable of using Command powers/equipped with a hangar/etc. like the Command Cruisers, doesn't have the option to pick up KDF/Rom ships alongside it (which are actually my priority anyway), has a Starship Trait focused on abilities I rarely use (and fails to improve them in a manner that would get me to use them)... etc. Nothing about it draws my interest, makes it stand out, or makes me want to dive into the next STF with it. This is... meh. Worse, really, since it's inferior meh.
For me, exciting would be something that adds new or unique gameplay options... or maybe missing ones such as the KDF/Rom Intel and Sci (and Intel Sci) ships... or maybe fixes buggy items like Overwhelming Force (which still won't work with Secondary Deflectors; now that it's available Fedside could we get that fixed?)... or something more than this.
A standalone Federation Cruiser is nice for those that want just want the skin for their Fed captains, but it's not enough to make me consider buying without any truly distinguishing features. At least differentiate it by changing the Hybrid slot from Command -> Pilot to make Excelsior fans happy. That, at least, would make the Resolute an interesting variation on the typical Cruiser offerings.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
I want to like this ship; I really do. I can see what the artists were going for here. The secondary hull, in particular, looks great. But I don't like the way the nacelles curve and taper off in the back, and I've had quite enough of chevrons and chevron-like shapes in place of saucers, thank you very much. So, the costume pretty much fails. The Guardian looks much more like an Excelsior successor than this does.
As for the stats, well, the rest of you have pretty much said it already: it's like a command cruiser, only worse. Not really sure what Cryptic was thinking with this one.
I really just don't like how the ship looks like a skeletal Presidio. I would love this ship, visually, so much more if the saucer was round instead of that arrowhead/teardrop/egg shape that nearly all T6 Fed ships have had thus far.
I also wish the ship had a Lt. Commander Universal/Command station, or any universal station, for that matter. If you're going to upgrade a ship, do more than just add an extra BOff ability slot and make on BOff station a specialist seat.
*facepalm* Cryptic just isn't even trying any more are they?
The nacelles are too long and too tall, the saucer is too long and too tall, the engineering hull is too fat, aesthetically the only not bad parts are the nacelle pylons and the texturing.
I could learn to live with the model... especially since you can use/kitbash it with the original Excelsior parts but the stats... just -UGH- we have 4 command slot cruisers already, and 3 intel ones; what we now -need- is a pilot one... this could have been the perfect ship for that for reasons others have already posted but no... once again Cryptic has managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And an Ensign engineering slot? Not a universal one? Seriously?!?
The ship hasn't actually been released yet... and changing the boff and console layouts wouldn't take more then a few minutes or so, Cryptic -could- still turn this around.... but of course they won't.
To paraphrase the old joke about poor players making bad starship captains:
Cryptic: You are Bad Starship Designers and you should Feel Bad!
I also would have voted F if it had been an option.
I also would have voted F if it had been an option.
Indeed, it's difficult to imagine how they could have done worse. This thing is just horrible, a pale shadow of the TAC Command BC.
Maybe they did in on purpose after buying into the mindset of those here who always believe that the newest ship in the timeline should be vastly superior to those before.
D. Other than the ability to use the Excelsior skin... Im not really sure whats going to make this ship better than the Command Battlecruisers.
The BOff layout is... kind of garbage, and super engineering heavy... Even if it just lost the Ensign slot it would be better.
Command Spec is... a questionable decision, given that the most famous line regarding the ship, spoken by one of the best pilots in Trek was 'Fly her apart then", and that also happens to be the name of a Pilot ability makes the Pilot spec a more interesting choice (especially since pilot spec cruisers are pretty rare).
The trait... is kind of garbage too... affecting 2 abilities... that Im not sure anyone actually uses...
So what we have is a $30 skin... and thats just a questionable purchase...
Seems to me the starship production line is not about turning out beautiful, sleek and sexy starships we all want to pilot and love the aesthetics of, but to sell to next power creep trait. Which this ship fails at. Trait for a useless engineer power.
Looking at the recent designs. The Arbiter is an abomination of a ship, ugly duckling that will never be a swan, The Klingon equivalent is just as bad, The Pathfinder, Scryer, Andromeda, Phantom,Pilot ships, Qib and Avenger are all horrible designs. Cryptic are just plain horrible at designing original Federation and KDF ships, Federation more so.
The only 3 ships they ever did a half decent job on are the Thunderchild version of the Akira, the Command Cruisers although the area were the Deflector dish is could be improved. And the Venture skin for the Galaxy although the Saucer could use a little bit more depth to it looks a tad to thin.
And don't get me started on the vanilla skins i.e Envoy for the Galaxy or the Imperial for the Soveriegn

You and I think a great deal alike in some things.

That's not quite fair, they did a good job with the Maelstrom and Tempest designs. The latter moreso but both are definitely Starfleet and both look nice and at the same time, fit for purpose.
The Thunderchild is the most beautiful star trek ship ever IMO... did Cryptic have a guest designer for that one? Because -nothing- else they've made comes close to it. All the new fed ships should have followed the Thunderchild's aesthetics.
I'd kill for a T6 heavy escort carrier -just- so I could use that skin again.

I have to agree with this. As of late, the ship designs have gotten worse and worse. I'd like to see more designs like the Venture, Odyssey and Dauntless. Those look like futuristic Starfleet vessels. The Arbiter, Resolute and Scryer (there are many more, but I'll stop myself there) do not.

HOLY HOTNESS BATMAN!!!! Wowzah! That ship is so shmexy! I would totally buy that thing if it became a new 3-pack with Tactical, Engineering, and Science variants!!!!
I don't mean to be a complainer or anything...but this ship is predictably ugly. I thought Cryptic may have been turning the corner with the T6 Intrepid, as it wasn't terrible IMO, however, after seeing this ship and the T6 Defiant design..I'm not sure they'll ever quite get it, in terms of Federation aesthetics.
BOFF seating is meh at best (and as others have said the Presidio, which I have, is better arranged)
The mastery is dull and likely not going to be used
The console is sorta nifty, but the characters I tend to play more with have access to fleet consoles, so whatever...
So out of the 4 possible considerations (Looks, seating, mastery and console) it gets a 1 out of 4. A failing grade for sure.
I don't really care that much since I don't play fed enough to want it. If I did though, I would give it a C for its stats, and a B/B- for it's looks. Overall... C+ I guess?
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
C. It's not a terrible ship. I do very much dislike the saucer being so long and pointy, and the starship trait is way too specific to be very useful, in my opinion. Might be great for somebody; just not for me. I just purchased the T6 Avenger, which is fun. I can't imagine the Resolute being *fun*. Would hope that the old saucer being placed on it might look good, but I imagine that it will just look odd. Console seems neat; appropriate for a cruiser.
Layout wise, it's usable for sure, but brings nothing new at all to the table. This was a prime chance to add a cool Pilot based Cruiser that would set it apart from the popular Command BCs, Andromeda, Guardian, Eclipse and Arbiter. But lack of imagination and foresight led to this ship which will be purchased only by the most hardcore of Excelsior fans.
im not sure what i think about it. i also dont understand strong feelings this or that way regarding the aesthetics. it pretty much looks like every other feddie ships.

I run a Fleet-grade T5U Excelsior on one of my characters. However, the Resolute doesn't inspire me to change that this time around.
I will go with this look, which I think is the best look for thhe Excelsior class.
