I've never seen anyone with over 30k DPS. Do those magician ever get into the real world with their 8 Mk XIV magic AP beams and play some elite Hive Onslaught pugs for the sake of ****s and giggles?
i can imagine the poor random noobs getting penalised nbecause their 4 k dps worth of damage doesn't make it into the 1% range.......not that they could get off anything shots to begin with.

Sure we do. HSE is a lost cause with a pug either way, as its pretty much the only elite mission where naming doesnt feel wrong. Its a lost cause without high enough dps and teamwork or at least some sort of coordination. Trying to pug it is not going into the real world, its just a way to waste your time.
I usually tend to pug with over 30k with my tacticians (even on those still doing the escort-dhc-style), depending on the run (and the pug, its RNG here) 50k are possible and I was able to do it a few times. But I like it more to fly my Torp-DHC-Vesta on my Sciencechar with pugs than my Scimitar (its just a more "fun" way of flying) and doing 25-35k... with a mixed weaponsbuild on a science char
Though after the lag came in, I started doing ground only, since I dont have any lags there.
Used to... but I would say 98% of the pugs I have played have been horrible disasters. Ill try and get people organized at the start of them, and people are either clueless and dont know someone is talking in chat and trying to help, or just flat out ignoring one another. Im only 30k DPS at the moment, and cant solo a STF fast enough to get all the optionals, so its better to play with people who are actually interested in really playing the game and bettering their own skills.
well it's good to know they exist and not just some urban legend where once in a blue moon, they pop up out of nowhere, do the damage then disappear for 6 month before resurfacing again.

Since you included 30k, I can speak for myself, though I wouldn't consider myself a wizard by any means. I haven't been logging on a lot lately, but when I run a PvE queue, I PUG. I like the extra challenge. I ran three this morning, a Gates, an Infected, and a Crystalline. Mostly just getting a feel for my sea legs lol.
As fit the actual wizards, I have seen several in PUGs of all different kinds. Though I can't say I PUG HSE, who in their right mind would?
I actually see woodwhity a lot in pugs but it's not like they advertise they're wizards wherever they go. You would be surprised where they pop up now and then.
As for not failing in the DPS channels? I've seen some horrific fails in the 10k channel, lol, but it's not often.

Most of us do although not all and well some feel playing with 30k dudes is "pug" enough;) but we do sometimes. You just wont see numbers far beyond 100k in true pugs and right now with all the lag its almost impossible to go past 100k even with good teams so you'll have to wait for better times before you may meet a council member in a pug with him going beyond 100k.
I do pug, but as a general rule I don't pug ISA or elites - pug runs fail those too much for me (and pug elites never pop). I've also run across other DPS'ers in those queues, including Sarcasm in one HSN.

1) I live the PuG Lyfe! I've even recorded a few of those runs. I take pride in being able to push numbers in the wild, and having to use brain as well as brawn to get the job done. From ANRA to ISA, to BDA (and even BDE a time or three), you'll see me.... livin' dat PuG Lyfe!
2) Who uses 8 AP beams these days? Pshhhhh. I want to play a game, not fall asleep on my spacebar!
3) I'm working on a skittles boat. Since the USS OverTheRainbow worked out so well (on a toon that's not even 60 yet), I figured I'd take a page from VirusDancer and emulate what he's done.... because I've never done it before.
I'll run with anyone. I've learned from everyone. I fear no one.
I probably have... but that's because I haven't a clue how to parse, so I don't know exactly what my DPS is. I've tried and have always gotten nonsensical results or none at all... I guess either my technical skills simply aren't up to it (and this is coming from a girl who used to handcode HTML), or the writing skills of whoever wrote the instructions I've tried to follow.
Last time I tried, I was using a Fleet Defiant armed with AP DHCs and turrets, yet the parse details said my most effective attack was with an overloaded plasma DBB.
If someone could come up with a user-friendly way to parse, that actually works... I'll let you know.
Besides, I haven't (aside from this weekend where I was specifically trying to earn some Omega marks quickly on one char) done PVEs much at all the last couple months; between the Delta Recruit event and older characters, I've been spending nearly all of my time on story episodes.
You can get the Combat Log Reader from there, as well as some advice there. Ignore the troll that says cannons are bad.
As a Fleet Defiant pilot and former cannoneer, I'll see what I can do to help you out, even if all I can do is invoke the name of one of the Wiz-kids to explain mechanics. I can already see some minor adjustments that can be made for your build, but ultimately, it'll come down to piloting.

Though usually the errors are in the log itself. When a Pet-NPC is on the maps (lt. deveer in BHE, Benthans in Argala, Enterprise in Tau Dewa etc.) the game itself writes it like its your pet. And if its using some hyperimba attack it might just come out as your most powerful attack. But thats usually the problem of the game (and thus the logfile) itself rather than the Parser.
I've only seen one person over 30k in the last five ISA public pug runs I did. Hrmm, I'm bored enough to go through and look at how many out of the ISA public pug runs I've got there had somebody at 30k+...none would be me, I haven't parsed 30k+.
So, 30 out of 114 saved runs. ~26.32% of them going back to 12/30/14 (I didn't run ISA until then, with all the talk at the launch of DR and the increased requirements...it wasn't until folks convinced me it had been nerfed into the ground again that I risked hitting it up and possibly being a burden to the group).
I got my 10k and 30k invites from PUG runs. Even now that I've hit 50k, I still run mainly on PUGs. Granted, I rarely break 40k in a PUG though.
Win or fail, I actually enjoy PUG runs more than DPS channel runs. DPS channel runs tend to follow a predetermined flight path. PUGs bring a lot of unpredictability, and requires you to adapt and react instead of merely pouring in damage.
Edit: I made this post on mobile and I forgot to add, I really don't count the 50k group as "Wizards". I think that honor is reserved for those higher up.
Admittedly, I don't often take my 50k+ Scimi into queue pug runs all that often, it's not really made for that. However I do like to take my new builds and those I am tweaking into queue pug runs just to see how they do. I suspect I am not the only one if the low dps numbers are any indication. Otherwise if I'm just trying to burn through the rep system, I stick with the appropriate dps channels for my rep grinding. (yea, I'm one of those that misses the 20k Channel ) I'm not a fan of dragging out a 2 - 5 min DPS Channel ISA run into 10 - 15 minutes Queue Endurance Run.

What kind of scrub scimi do you run then? Scimi's an amazing tank. :P
But yes, a fair amount of high-dps ships would die in a pug, with targets lasting so much longer and minimal aggro splitting.

I always hate when those kinds of ships show up in a pug personally. I like 10 minute runs with some good pressure and tanking and back-and-forth, I like taking it easy and not being in a rush as I pilot, and I'm not gonna be pressured by anyone into spending money on the upgrade hamster wheel because TRIBBLE that. Just enjoying the run as it unfolds. Plus some of my characters just aren't the fastest at killing things (my drain Sarr Theln is a blast to fly, but its no speed demon), and so from a damage per second measurement, its not gonna top any charts. So when someone shows up at gogogo pace with enough firepower to solo the thing, its like why even throttle out of the spawn area? Turned down my DPS invites because I didn't want to fly alongside that, but sometimes ya just can't escape 'em. *shrugs*

Gear like that can result in low DPS teammates failing to register as being active.

Have to agree. The other day somebody asked here for 'classic' raid/endgame content. I am not hungry. As I remember from my WoW days, when I ran a dunfeon in a group, there is almost always a player that is in a hurry and wants to speed through things. I don't want to hold back the group and slack, but I do not enjoy that way of playing. It is like having sex with someone that also wants to have sex with the rest of the street, the same night.
You can ask, if those speeders are really social gamers or do the lack a certain aspect of what is called social intelligence. Funny, because they do need a group.

While I massively disagree with the approach of those kinds of players, ya don't have to start name calling. Lets keep it friendly, just people disagreeing with each other, so the conversation doesn't degenerate into pointless unpleasantries.
Yeah there are plenty of pricks, but there's also some decent people they just happen to go for that more-aggressive playstyle. My read on it is 'if you're not pushing, you're not playing,' where as I'm more like 'if you're working, you're not playing.' I'd just hope that any of the decent ones reading this sort of thread would have the courtesy to not roadkill a pug even though they can. If they wanna minmax/speedrun there are multiple channels just for people who like that stuff, but outside those channels its probably an equal shot that they're annoying people as being some sort of inspiration. Why bother pugging, with a chance to fail, when I can do it with guaranteed success in less than half the time?
Running in 50k gets boring when 3 out of 5 ships are AP DBB Scims with plasma explosions, I like to see some variety in my team composition!
I do occasionally PUG as well, but - as others have said - the lag has really discouraged me from doing much things in space.
