Note: It's only the two color choices that have had their palette increased to go with the pattern choices - you can't make a yellow submarine.
Wow, that Bortasqu looks impressive, I wonder what will be possible, now just to be able to use whichever space set visuals you have regardless of what shield you have currently equiped would be awesome.
I'd like to change the colors of windows and the lights, like the blue lights on the Reman palette you choose on a Romulan ship. Or the green stripes on one of the Scimitar variant. Things like that..
I'd restrict the use of the very bright colors though, it might turn out like Lego.
*sigh* I'll make one final comment before I leave. It's EXTREMELY arrogant and selfish for people to not want other people to have freedom to do what they want simply because it offends their eyeballs. That is the epitome of being a self-centered douch
OMG OMG OMG!!! *jumps up and down like a giddy teenage girl* I have been so hoping they would do this. I am totally going to have a hot pink voyager!!! Freaking awesome!! Thanks Cryptic you're awesome!!!
While they are at it why not put ship accessories in as well, I had something like this in mind. LOL!! j/k
Personally, I tend to prefer muted/natural colours on ships. But I understand some people would like more obvious, clear, and bold colour options for their decals so I guess it's a good thing to get it added.
Now if we ever get a 'fix' for some of the stupidly limited colour options on character uniforms, I'd be excited. Like why can't I get a true black on my Wells uniform. Or make my Maco outfit black, or my Omega outfit white. And don't even get me started on the KDF colour palettes.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.
True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!
It'd be nice if they would also allow changing of the main hull skin itself, even if that part is restricted to a few colors, such as Fed Materials being able to change the white-centric parts between white to black, with optional blue-white tints (like some of the Fed Materials).
Or KDF Material skins being able to change the dark green-centric parts between green, red, and black shades.
Or Romulan Material skins being able to swap the green or brown-centric portions between green, dark red, and black (I would include white, but that's a Veteran skin exclusive).
Mainly to better benefit the expanded color synergy.
That way, I could set up a KDF "Elite Guard" (or call them the Blood Fleet) that use Blood Red mains with black and maroon patterns.
Or set up a Fed "Omega Forces" unit in a black main with two different shades of gray (pun not intended) similar to the default coloring of the Omega Ground Armor.
Then just for fun and giggles, go for a neon Scimitar using the Tulwar or Falchion base.
The other reason I'd like this is to more closely match Homeworld HD, where elite units have their own unique scheme independent of the default player colors (in this case, my ships would be the elite units permitted to have their own color scheme).
Finally... the first new thing for PvP since Fireworks!
This is a PvP thing? There goes my reason for ever bothering to use it then.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Your 'immersion' be damned, I like to be able to play any way I want!
'Xactly !
.... wait, on second thought , could we also get some cowboy hats, cow bells , spurs and maybe some giant horns stuck on our starships too ? This game is too limited as it is ...
Could we ... , could we find a way to stick long transparent high heels on our ships while we're at it ?
Please ???

Be careful what you wish for: you may get it.
There's a reason CBS wants a say in how ships look, and what overall gets to be seen in the sky (and how many lockbox ships, etc): they don't want the IP tainted (pun intended) too much. Ridiculous colorschemes may hurt the IP too, IMHO. When everything just looks like a fantasy fanfare, our skies will look a little less 'Trek' again.
And yes, ppl *will* abuse the wide-range colorschemes, of course; simply because they can.

People abuse everything, can't really doing anything about that. Punishing us intelligent, normal people for the idiots never turns out well.

My God, some of those colours. I'm pretty torn on this. You just known you'll see pink ships all over the place that look ridiculous. I thought they didn't want to give you this level of palette control to avoid stuff like bright pink Klingon warships?
Honestly, while some of those ships do look gawd awful. I look forward to this change. I can ignore what other people do and worry about my own self, and make my ships look more like I want.

Shouldn't that make Pilot ships completely OP?
What did I ever do to Cryptic that they hate me so much?

Absolutely. By the time your opponent finds their sunglasses, they're already dead.

Terrible idea
People have no taste and sense of appropriateness...
Some "designs" - if you may call them so - really cause the need for a paper bag.
Lemony yellow
Orangey orange
Rasberry red
Grapity purple
Damn you rabbit!
:P
Praetor of the -RTS- Romulan Tal Shiar fleet!
I asked on the forum about getting darker ship hulls etc but instead we can make them darker via colour pallet
black with red outlines here i come!
Thanks for the eye bleeding. This is gonna be painful...
Personal taste aside, I like this feature. So hoping for uniforms next, especially reputation armors.

Strange thing to change their mind on.
We come in peace, SHOOT TO KILL!
USS Casinghead NCC 92047 launched 2350
Fleet Admiral Stowe - Dominion War Vet.
Say what you want, a Klingon who flies around in that monstrosity has some massive garumba!
I'm beginning to see the upside .
... 2 bad choices canceling each other , and all that jazz ...
I agree, except on the bad choices part, I both like space being more empty, and the idea of tastefully augmenting some of my ships.
