A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

There's also a mod for Space Empires 5 that is Star Trek themed. But I don't think it'd what you're looking for since it uses research to unlock new ships, not building construction.

i thought BOTF WAS turn-based? and SFC doesn't have any kind of base-building that i'm aware of, let alone command & conquer style
sfc you can purchase ships with prestige the more success you run across, unfortunately the more success you run across and the more powerful your ships are when you buy them, the shorter the game becomes.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
who owns these old games, I'll bet there's money to be made there
releasing old "classics", CDs eventually wear out or break or get scratched
original armada wont work on modern os or graphics cards correctly, same with a2. you will need to download them from specific places that got access to upgrade to software to more modern standards. i would suggest fleet operations for armada 2 though, its a superior upgrade to the stock a2 experience.

i would really prefer good old games add them to their collection, since my armada copy doesn't even install anymore, and on the rare occasion i can get it installed...it just doesn't play nice with newer operating systems or hardware
probably the same with armada 2 and bridge commander

sorry... I read that it WAS turnbased... I must be tired.
yes, if i want turn based id play space empire 5 on hard difficulty vs ai, tough challenge there. or galactic civ, another tough challenge. there was another trek turn based game called conquest that i spent nights online playing at one point before growing out of it.

I have had them working on disc no problem. But they are part of the bundle release along with elite force. The OP definitely sounds like they're talking about Armada. Thoroughly recommend the Armada 3 mod for Sins of a solar empire:rebellion. (Jeez that's still a mouthful)

it wont work on either of my machines, not even the original freespace 2 games work correctly on my machines or at all, the one thing all of them have in common is that they ran on older software, you have patches i think that came help eliminate some of it and perhaps compatibility mode. but even if you got the games working right there is no challenge to the mini campaigns of a1 and the longer campaigns to a2.

Also, despite having a dozen different resources to manage, BotF used research as the only way to get better ship designs. It did not have a feature where you had to build structures to gain access to new ship styles.
Star Trek Armada 3 was good, although it has a tendency to crash every 15 minutes so make sure you save as you go along! Just wanted to point that out:).

did you use the large address aware tool on the sins executable to set it to use 4 GB of RAM like the installation instructions specifically tell you to do?
because if you didn't, that would be why you're having so many crashes, most likely

Beats me. It was quite a while ago but thanks for the suggestion. I might have to try it again.

armada had playable federation, klingons, romulans and borg; armada 2 added the cardassians and undine (though, obviously called species 8472 there)

I support this notion...
Star Trek Fleet Operations.. You want to look into that at moddb OP.

If it was space based, it was likely Armada or Armada 2.
If it was ground based, you might be thinking of New Worlds.
