STO Crashing on Start-up

Title says it all, really. Ever since Season 10's release I've been having trouble even getting into the game; originally it would wait until I'd selected a character then crash to desktop at about 95% of the way loaded, which I decided to just say "Oh well, there's an emergency patch coming out in a few hours, I'll wait until then and see if it was an issue and has been fixed". The patch came out, I launched the game, it now reliably 100% of the time crashes to desktop at the midway point of the white loading bar on the "Cryptic" screen. There are never any errors, never something explaining what's happened, just "Oops! Looks like something dun f'd up and now the game's crashed".

I really don't have any idea what the problem could be and I'm not entirely sure if it's an issue other people are getting or it's something that the update's done which has not sat right with my machine.

Wow, I had absolutely no trouble logging in and playing season 10 all yesterday - until the 4/22 patch.

Now it continually crashes after character selection.

I have similair issue but not similair
From my home i can't even make launcher to update, it says me to check internet connection.
but when i was bring my PC to friend and connect it thru he's internet, launcher and client
was updated and was woking well thru my friends internet. But from my home, also have same
issue that launcher can't connect to patch LOL

For your problem, i was have same issue when i was firs time run game. Patcher was making all
done, then i click to engage and until 75% it stops to load for a while and crashs.
Try to uninstall all STO content including ARC and also remove any trace from registry, then, restart computer and try to make fresh new instalation. It was work for me then. Mussle job but was help.

But if reinstalling won't help, try to download another Star Trek Launcher and overwrite old one,
i was see link somewhere but you can find it on google, also i hope it works. Maby its problem to
game client executable file in game folder (not arc folder)

    Hope that helps.

    *EDIT*
This is the problem i still have, and i was send ticket for it, hoping to stuff solve it
Work nice from my friends home, but from my home dont work LOL

Mine is only crashing on my new Delta Recruit toon when it loads the map. Originally, I was in the middle of a mission and was going to a new map and it crashed when loading the new map. Now, whenever I log in with that toon, map starts loading and gets > 85% and crashes the client. Other toons don't seem to be having the problem (yet.) This just started today.

When the sector revamp stuff started going to Tribble, I tried to log on to Tribble to see it, but my comp kept crashing to desktop each time I would try. I could still log into Holodeck just fine, but not Tribble. Now that the new season is on Holodeck, I'm getting the same issues. I am able to load Arc, click play Star Trek Online, and after the STO loader comes up and does it's "Engage" thing, the game tries to load and then crashes to desktop. Just like it would when I would try to get into Tribble before...

Anyway, suggestions or patches are welcome!
    CM

Edit: Just tried it again, I get all the way past the Cryptic loading screen and to the beautiful purple Iconian War theme loading screen and it crashes to desktop... I have a screenshot of the error window, but have nowhere to post it yet...

I was about to say this was the best launch since I started playing in August. The more I saw how many account bank items/slots are now gone, the more the computer keeps crashing, the more everything else that just doesn't let me get the job done, the further down toward Delta Rising I put this

I see that there's many having this problem, namely the "Fatal Error" crash to desktop right at the Iconian War splashscreen at startup. I tried reinstalling the game last night, and that worked then. Now today you have an even newer patch, and back to the same Crash to desktop problem. And it happened even after I did a second reinstall. I've reported this 2 times already but have no feedback. Anyone else figure out what to do?

I was patching just fine until it got to 75% done. Then launcher closed by itself. I started it again, then about 1 minute later the launcher closed itself again.

Have launcher open now but it is not patching. Says patching, but noting is happening.

This started at aprox 10:15 pst.

Somehow, I have no idea how, I've just managed to connect to the game. I didn't do anything to make it happen, it just decided to work. I'm not sure there's any reason to the rhyme in my case at all, I'm not even entirely convinced it won't just break for an indefinite length of time again later on.

Been getting this same crash, but it wasn't until half an hour ago it started (Around 2100 BST). Running on W7, with an AMD R9 280X gfx card.

I was able to get my main Gorn toon in earlier. Transwarped to ESD to start the first new mission and crashed on the loading screen. Haven't been able to log back in since. Two other toons I've tried are both feds, my main and a delta recruit, and oddly enough, they both crash as soon as the ship loads up in the background. The ship's an Odyssey if that matters. :/

I've been having problems ever since the launch of 'Delta Rising'. Here's what keeps happening:

I have four main characters I've had since last year, across all three factions. I play them normally. But since 'Delta Rising' was launched, when I go to create a new character, once the opening cinematic finishes or I try to use ESC to skip it, the game window freezes and won't respond. It's especially bad when I try to start a new Federation character because, unlike with the Romulan and Klingon factions, the opening cinematic starts playing again after closing and relaunching the game, and the same problem occurs. With a new Romulan or Klingon faction character is created and the cinematic crashes the game window, I can simply restart and the game will begin normally.

None of this began happening until the launch of 'Delta Rising'. Support tickets end up being replied to only with something along the lines of, "we're aware of the problem and we're working on it, so please be patient."

Now, since 'The Iconian War' launch, SFX have been messed up. Torpedoes, cannon blasts, and other space battle FX don't show up on screen, ground weapons don't render, star effects are not there—the list goes on.

I realize and appreciate that the devs are hard at work on this stuff, but could another month or two of getting out as many bugs and glitches as possible have really killed anyone? I plopped down quite a bit of money on STO, including for the lifetime membership, and I would like to use the product I paid for with as few problems as possible.

Now, as to the problems I've noted, is there any news as to what is being done about them and how long it might take for fixes?

Yep, same problem. Though I've had this issue regularly since Delta Rising started, reloading my video driver would allow me to load and play. Since Season 10 started this week, nothing helps.

    Good morning,

I used another (different) computer to get on and it's worked thus far. I had my Federation Science Command ship active at the time of the Season 10 update and got the crash issues. On the other computer, I switched to an older ship (a Saber class escort), then shut down the game. On the old computer (the one with the startup problem), I loaded another game client to get the game to work as well as deleting STO and reloading via the clent. I also updated DirectX. After reinstallation I able to get the game to shut down and reload twice without issues. The third time, I got on and switched back to my Science Command ship and shut down the game. When I started the game then, it suddenly started crashing again like before and wouldn't stop.

I wonder if this might be a bug related to whatever ship is active. I also thought about what my custom audio, video, game controller settings were relative to the default settings. There's no indication that this Season 10 update is now incompatible with many of our PC's as the basic requirements are still met per their Sys Req notes.

We should hit the live support team on this heavily and insist that they fix this problem. I've played too long to quit now.

Crashing on startup is still happening. This is sorely unappreciated. what are they "reloading" when I see the words "Star Trek online the iconian war, that causes it to crash constantly?

Wow, I had absolutely no trouble logging in and playing season 10 all yesterday - until the 4/22 patch.

Now it continually crashes after character selection.

OK, I have read all of the posts in this thread thinking I would find the problem with my system crashing. The challenge I face is trying to figure out how it is only one of my characters that is causing me to crash. I have 10 toons and 9 of them work fine, but it is always the same one that casuses the system to crash. I received the "oops" message 11 times over the course of 3 days and always with the same character. After i updated my nvidea drivers, as suggested, the system kept crashing on the same character??? The only cosistent occurrence was it would crash while loading the character after she was selected. Until last night that is!! I had run my other nine characters and when I selected the one that is "broken" the load screen actually FROZE!! Thats right it froze! Just before it froze my FPS rate dropped from 60 to 44 and then BAM!!! I dont know if thats an improvement or not, since that was the first time that character had gotten that far since the season 10 launch. Any ideas what could be wrong wtih this ONE TOON??? I tried changing the name but that didnt help either.:( ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I didnt see this post until after I posted my issue on page three (vorlon Angel). The only difference is that it isnt my Delta Recruit causing the issues, it is the very first character I ever made when I started playing this game back in 2012. See my other posts for details.:D

We both got this on two separate computes:

"Fatal Error: Unable to initialize on-demand patching and connect to Patch Server: The connection was idle for too long."

Edit: Tried changing DNS. No dice.
