No way. The game is by far too grindy and alt unfriendly, I'd need a lot of work to pull that. And I already made the character I was interested in a long time ago. In fact, I switched my main back with LoR, and it was already tedious.
Once I'm done with the account reward, they'll gather dust, contraband, and/or Romulan BOFF.
I probably will keep one of them as a space main because I made him talaxian and they get a bonus on materials which is starting to show up now that he is 50+ and I see the rares etc dropping from the kills.
I think what I am going to do is keep my original "main" for ground only and make the talaxian a space only one. I am just waiting to see what the changes to the skills etc will be that I know they are going to introduce very soon before I repec the original main etc as it might just be a waste of time to respec him.
Anyhow its kinda fun and I like the iconian info we are getting .. I want to know who this "other" is that is gonna help these Iconians I have some ideas LOL
I also have decided what the iconians really are .. now to see if i am wrong or not ^^ (i probably am)
As many alts as I run? I do not think I have a 'main' anymore.
I think I will be keeping my Fed DR. and when she is 50 I will run my Rom as far as I can get her. If by some miracle I manage to get her to 50, then I will role my first liberated Klingon.

Nope. Not even close to a main. I'm using my delta guy until all the missions are complete, then, I'll park him forever.
I felt like I needed to rush to get to at least 50 so I didn't miss out on the Romulan Navy set.
I realize now that ship packs are just a waste of money. You buy the ships, but, the 4th console needed to complete it is from the anniversary and my recruit will NEVER get that. Same thing happened with the Dyson ships. I wanted the Kobali set for my Delta guy, but, can't. NO.
Can't have Kobali, can't have Dyson, what ship pack is next that I can't have?
Grinding all those reps is mind-numbing not to mention that it's next to impossible now to get things like the Borg Neural Processors, etc. So, getting nice sets are out. NO.
Crafting AGAIN to level 15? I'm not even done with my main yet! NO.
Grind all those command points, AGAIN? seriously? NO.
Spend millions in Dil. on fleet projects? NO.
Please, give me a real reason to use this tool as my main.
Total waste of time. I wish they would just let us designate a toon for Delta Recruitment and let me complete it at my own pace.
You can buy the anniversary DYson on the Exchange or off the Lobi Vendor for 600 Lobi, not sure if they have done that with the POS Kobali.
While i have invested heavy in my main, i feel i made some major mistakes with him as well, and despite having about 60 BTC dylithium claims i plan to remove him soon.
"It appears we have lost our sex appeal, captain."- Tuvok
No way my Delta Recruit/Operative will ever be Main Status. I can work the Reputation to Tier 5 easy enough with Sponsorship Tokens. But competitive gear, ships, premium traits? Premium ships? The long slow slog of Post-Lv50 advancement? The trouble I went through to attain what Specializations I have? Upgraded equipment? Gaining BOFFs like Breen, Non-Republic Reman, Borg SCI Officer? The costs of attaining ver III of some of the BOFF abilities?
I would have to be high on drugs to make a Delta Recruit/Operative a main. My mains are so far ahead and considering the costs in game resources and time to get them there, I'm not fond of repeating that process. Once I got what I wanted from this Delta thing, these new characters are going the way of the Meat Grinder.
If I was a new player it would be different, but I'm not. I have characters that have been around since this game launched and are light years ahead. I'd be insane to make Delta Recruits/Operative be mains.
While i have invested heavy in my main, i feel i made some major mistakes with him as well, and despite having about 60 BTC dilithium claims i plan to remove him soon.
In all seriousness, park your "main" at the mining station, use those claims, then float your dilithium to your alt using the dilithium exchange. Then delete if you feel inclined. Would help offset the costs associated with starting over a little.
Back to the OP's question: No. No way. It is taking a lot of effort to finish this playthrough as is. I'll probably just barely make it.
I might make my DR a main...for awhile. I have never played KDF before and am finding my character so much more fun than my goodytwoshoes Fed character.
My Foundry Mission--Name: Falling Star | Mission ID: HQIH36HAW | Faction: FED
Overall I think he will be my 3rd favorite of six.

A member of the Sevrin family is holding in there, hes gone overboard on his beam arrays, all 8 ap beams have [over]. maybe there is some hope in him after all to become a "main" :P. however this toon is level 56 and a half and at this point the 2nd highest level toon behind my actual main who still requires a bit more work on her ship, vol locators and upgraded disruptor banks, conductive console with resall.. so a lot of thing to find there still. the only real big difference is the 40m gap in ec for a plasmonic...
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I'm definitely doing that, but I can certainly see how people with lockbox ships, ship traits, stuff that can't be obtained anymore, would be put off by the idea.
I've got old characters, but with the exception of LoR because that rocked and made Klingons fun to run as well, I really haven't been into STO all that much. In fact, I just finished the Rom rep system on what could be called my only "main". My other one, I've given up on since f2p. When f2p hit and all the low level ships were getting C-store versions that were "better" I saw where the wind was blowing.
A couple of things brought me back though. Sector space revamp that's upcoming certainly grabbed my attention. D'Angelo not being here is good too(actually the whole feel of the devs lately reminds me of the good ol days with DStahl's interactions with the community. I really appreciated it back then even if he didn't always have the resources to do all the things he wanted with the game). Delta Recruits is great, but to be honest, it came at a weird time since the moment it was announced I had just made a new Feddie sci char. Ah well, back to Rommies with DR. It's good though. It's a new content spin on the old content. It'll level me to the point that Delta Rising will be fun and not annoying (I saw where it was going on another char that I played it on lately).
Also the fact that I've finally completed the Rom Rep so that I can grab the token from my account bank and use the free rep creds to plow through that on my new Rommie is awesome. It takes away the repulsive grind and could make the New Romulus missions feel like a story arc instead of annoying me that they're locked behind a stupid rep system.
I think it's a better game and is getting to a better state. It's just unfortunate that so many people stuck with it when really it seems like there was a culture with the devs that didn't understand player sentiment and desire. I can see how that can come about given the vitriol that's always been present (that I've contributed to as well) in the forums, but it was still a bad decision on their part and has poisoned the well for players that would otherwise enjoy this event.
And now from a perspective of a new player : my DR is my second character, she quickly reached the level of the first one, so they both are my "mains".
It's actually kind of funny but with each character I make, I make just a little bit better than the one before. I have 40 characters now (deleted 3 to keep the number at 40). So far, I am running DR with 1 Joined Trill Fed Sci, 1 Joined Trill KDF Sci, 1 Human Fed Eng, and a KDF/Rom Eng and I am just blowing through the storylines with these new characters. Of course experience in making characters has brought me up to this point to where I can pretty much make something that will be able to get things done without too much effort.
When I go back to my old characters for Doffing, Events, etc. they are obviously lacking in comparison to my DR toons. Not because DR toons are better, except the fact they were built better from the beginning. I keep the old characters because they have all the bells and whistles (lockbox and fleet ships, maxed out rep and rep gear, hard to acquire traits, etc.)
Yes, I am tempted to make at least some of my DR characters into Mains, but I have way too much time and money invested in my old characters to simply relegate them all to farm-toon status. The old characters that were "expendale" have already been expended. All I am left with now are the old characters that would cost too much time, money, or both to simply replace.
OIf course, over time, the old characters will get upgraded (better ships, respeccing skills, better Boffs and Active Doffs) but it will be a long time before I go back and do all that. I am actually having loads of fun with these DR toons.

Nope. Not tempted to retire my main. I like my Trill. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna retire my DR Vulcan. I kinda liked sneaking up on NPCs and duing a surprise Nerve Pinch. ^^
While I have learned a lot in the time I have been playing and this new Delta Recruit is quite a bit better built then my previous characters, there is just too many things that can't be moved from one character to another to make it worth while.
It does make me wish once again for a full character rebuild option. Not just respecting skills, but the whole nine yards.
As with many others who have posted in this thread, I will not be making my Delta Recruit my new main toon. I have already devote a lot of time an effort into my three main toons (one for each faction). However, that does not mean I will be totally disregarding this Delta Recruit. I will continue to slowly build up this toon over time.
NOT a CHANCE... life is too short. Ill stick with my Main after the delta event. I just wonder how many "new" players have actually started their first character as a Delta character.
To be honest, as long as you already have the ability to make the sponsorship tokens, leveling a character to level 50, and T5 rep systems is no where near a problem at all, even before Delta Recruits. Every player that has not skipped a mission will get to about level 30-35 by the time they get to the Nimbus missions. And those are the level 21 missions.
In fact, since I started playing around July of 2013, getting to max level, and T5 of the rep systems was not an issue (especially after the sponsorship tokens). Many, like myself, never even had a main character till after Delta Rising. We just had a lot of alts that we played on all the time we were on.
For those that are existing characters with T5 on all rep systems on 1 character, and all the gear they need, the Delta Recruit doesn't really offer anything for their main, or alts. The few marks are pointless if you don't need anything. The biggest benefit that it offers is the Fleet-Only Dil reward that the Delta Recruit gets.
The Delta Recruit doesn't offer anything special for leveling to 60+ except for the bonus xp event, which even if we had gotten T3 on the server grind, it still wouldn't have been where the xp was, or needs to be.
The problem is the ridiculous grind from 50-60+. And the Delta Recruit doesn't offer anything to really offer any permanent benefit over a character that we have already done a lot of xp grinding on. And, the Delta Recruit will require much longer time to even try to catch up with them.
This event is focused on new players. It is not intended to offer any real help to alts. I think that for new characters, this is a really good event, and it has even brought some of the players that left back to the game for a little bit of time.
Hopefully some of these new players will hang in there till season 10 comes out so that there are more people to play the game with. If not, then when S10 comes out, the ones that returned to run the Delta Recruit event for a little bit may come back for a bit.
I am still hopeful that since it appears that we now have someone in charge that cares about the quality of the game, we might be able to get more fixes to the game play, and may even see something in the future that will help with the extreme grind for main, and alt characters. But, only time will tell.

Even with all the rewards, it doesn't come close to bridging the kind of grind Cryptic has forced us to invest into our mains. Do you have any idea how difficult, expensive and infuriating it is to obtain best in slot weapons, as a single example?
If more things like traits were account wide once unlocked it'd make that kind of transition much more accommodating. But as it is, the Delta rewards would have to be 10x greater to entice many players to switch mains.
Right, Cryptic is forcing players to do the reputations that are 100% optional, even with the sets that they make in terms of them being enticing enough to get. Also, upgrading isn't mandatory nor is getting the specialization points (the specialization points are a byproduct of what you have done after level 60, and that is play the game, you get the specialization points anyway. I suppose I just see things differently, and your statement that it's forced on you is a little off.. since it's not forced on you at all.
After reading this thread I may have to reconsider and reevaluate my own mental health. I plan on building my Delta recruit up as a Bajoran, and once built, he will be my main, at Delta quadrant and DS9 related missions especially. He will have all the usual traits and the Delta recruit skills too. Why wouldn't someone want to get a "maxed out" Delta recruit main toon? if it's just a matter of playing the game, isn't that the point?

An argument from semantics. Nothing is technically forced because this is a game. But the point of MMO's is character progression, usually in the form of gear. The character progression system in this game is simply too expensive, time consuming and unforgiving to permit that kind of flexibility. So DR will ultimately do little for alts until that changes, except for people who simply do not care about character progression and focus on RP or something I suppose.
As far as it goes for me, this DR will be the fourth "main". I have a Main Character for each Faction. Each of the characters are the ones that are first to complete any special missions or activities for that faction.
My Fed main as been around the longest, and has the most stuff. He is a Tactical Officer.
My KDF main has been around since just before Legacy. He is science and nearly everything the Fed guy has.
MY Rom-Fed main has been around since Legacy came out and has nearly all the stuff my Fed has. He's an engineer.
My Rom-KDF main is my Delta Recruit. He's the second ROM-KDF I made. He has hardly anything my Fed guy has. He's an engineer.
After this I will have one of each branch not covered by the main for each profession. My Fed and KDF's are all filled with 50+'s. So all I need to do is fill the Rom-Fed and Rom-KDF slots. But they will get created once all of the mains, then Feds and then KDF characters have completed the storyline. Then I will fill and complete the storyline for each of the remaining slots till I have them all filled.
The mains are all working on getting their gear maxed out concurrently. After that then I will focus on the lessers one at a time.
Ultimately I want to get all of thier ships accross all characters to max gear of various flavors and styles. It gives me a long term goal to organize my efforts toward.
But the DR will be the last "main" I make till they add a new faction.
I'll be honest I thought about it... then I hit level 54, finished the Breen Story Arc... went to start outfitting her ship with gear and started doing some simple math and... decided to park her. It's just not time feasible. With all the time it would require me to simply make my recruit even partly competant in end game is time I can placing into my main to make her even more competant and have a better fighting chance.
I don't want everythign NOW... but when you're look at the manhours it would take to simply make my recruit decent... and what else I can be doing with those manhours on my main... it's simply a no brainer.
Either way I'm going to end up playing the game... so might as well play the game and make one character capable instead of a mediocre and a up and coming poor character.

As to this bunch of white knight rubbish.... everything in this game is 100% optional... but if you intend to do anything past normals and not ruin everyone elses fun in in the process it's not really optional not is it.
Of course I'm guessing you simply don't care about other peoples fun and walk into Advanced with white gear and expect someone to carry your white knight behind through it all, but me... I prefer to help my team mates and allow them to have fun too... and to do that requires effort and work and time.
And as I've said above I'd rather use my time on my main and make her even more capable of contributing to the team and helping them out... then wasting time on a recruit and being a drain on the team.

You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.
I guess if my main was using mk x gear and was level 53, sure I would.
But no, Delta Rising just exacerbated the gap between new and veteran characters. The Delta Recruit perks do nothing to actually address that.
