I am not one to normally chime negatively towards cryptic and the game in general. Gods know I have sank enough hour and money into it at this point. But that is because I love this game and believe it has still a lot of potential.
That said, I feel with having cryptic just shortly ago releasing the new Command Ships for the factions. It was nice to see some equal footing given. This ship promotion though I feel is a slap in the face to the player base. And solely aimed at their whales. This ship promotion is simply a short term cash cow. That in the mid run will throw the in game markets (least in my view) into a new wave of inflation. Something this game has at times a large issue with.
The Dominion have been for a while now completely absent from the game, and unless they are planning a new story arc to branch into that direction this is a waist. We are deep into a story linking the Delta quadrant and the Alpha, a ship from one of those regions would have been a perfect choice. A little love for the Cardassians, perhaps one of the many Mercenary ships featured throughout Star Trek. (a secret hope for a Mercenary sub factions someday.) There is better potential than another Bug ship.
Cryptic I have seen many MMO's go this route and micro-transactions and yes it will make you money in the short run, but in the long term it will push players away that cant afford such or are just casual players. Business pursuits like this will drive older players away faster than you can gain newer ones.
(this wont be a ship I will even attempt to gain. I have my hold outs, hopes for ships that will be brought up to at least almost equal footing in the game. Till then I will continue with my beloved Nova and Akira class ships. Now on the off chance that a dev does read this Thank you for taking the time to. And second a little love for the older ships please. The Akira's consoles need a two item set bonus; like a bonus to turrets and photon torps at the least given thats what the consoles are built as. For the Nova, she is not in sync with Cannon, bridge layout plus her aero-shuttle. She was a tough ship in cannon.)
Space is vast, it's wonderful and maddening. Yet in that madness is some of the greatest beauty I have ever seen.
Are you... ****ting me.... I normally try to be fair about what Cryptic does, even if it's a rerelease like the Pathfinder (I like the Pathfinder despite what it is; it's a nice-looking ship and if I had the Zen sitting around I'd gladly buy it even if I had the T5 Intrepid.)
But this. Re-releasing a lockbox ship as something better? This is complete and utter bull****. Some people spent hundreds of dollars on lockbox keys (and hated it) just to get the original Jem'Hadar Attack ship, which at the time was one of the better ships in the game, and now all that money spend on lockbox keys is not only devalued by this Delta Rising bullcrap, but now by a rerelease of the SAME EXACT SHIP. (Just uglier.) Cryptic, thank you for reminding me never to even try my hand at lockboxes - you'll just make it all worthless later.
...On the positive side, though, I suppose that the price of the orignal will drop significantly for any new player who wants to RP as a Vorta or something.
To be honest, I am surprised by all of the people that didn't expect this. I mean, look at the Samsar, and the command ships. They are T6 versions of T5 ships. They just have a different skin. Also, look at the Phantom. I think that was the Intel escort. That is nothing but a T6 Defiant, with the cloak built into it, instead of needing a console. And even looks like a cross between the Defiant and the JHAS.
They only know how to make power creep, and how to make content where it requires power creep. They haven't realized that a lot of players would prefer content that was an actual challenge, and required more than just throwing DPS at everything.
But, this is the path the ones in charge choose to take. Instead of making the majority of the T5 ships comparative, even at T5-U, they know that all they have to do is make that ship in a T6 version, and enough players will jump at buying whatever gamble system it is locked behind, just for the power creep.
This is so sad. And why it is hard to even log in every day. I know that I am logging into a low quality gaming experience that had so much potential. The best thing about STO now is the art, and graphics of most of it. And some of the episodes. The rest is just getting dumped on by the ones that don't care about the game's overall quality.
Leader of Elite Guardian Academy.Would you like to learn how to run a fleet? Would you like to know how to do ship builds (true budget as well as high end)? The join the Academy today!
I think we're past "slap in the face", we're in uncharted territories of "are you f***ing kidding me?" even the Iconians would think it's going too far.
What's next? "Hey, look guys, for April, check our new command/intel hybrid ships that make both your expensive intel and your expensive command ships obsolete! Also, they have fleet versions and the original skins of both command and intel ships!"
Got no problems doing space content with T5U ships in privites and with the rewards and failures for space content there not even worth upgrading verses rewards
buy it for PvP ?........................plz..........
So now the new ultimate bug
in a R&D pack no less no uber traits ? No Leet duty officers ? No E-peen weapons ?
Just loads of cheep crafting mats with a 1% chance to win per pack bought ?
Well crafting mats will get a LOT cheeper so its good for me!

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
regardless of the reactions here, it will sell-and it will sell well.
I'd expect certain box-only crafting mats will drop in price on the exchange as a result of this, as people buy and buy and buy to get this ship, but won't invest their time in Crafting pursuits.
so it's a reasonably good move on Cryptic's part from a business standpoint, and will help pad figures for the Quarterly reports.
When even clearly illegal business practices doesn't scare off your customers. You know you have them right hooked.
Cryptic could pretty much do what they will at this point. There customers seem to asleep or plain unintelligent to know when they are being treated like sheep.
One of the sad things about DR is that the bug ship got dethroned from its rightful place as Best Ship.
Part of STO culture is that the bug ship is the best escort, its how its always been, its how its meant to be. DR deviating from this tradition was a bad thing in my view.
I'm very glad to see that you'll be able to put the classic bug ship skin on the super bug.
I think that canon ships should always be the best ships in the game.
Anyway, good on you guys for doing this!
Then why not allowing the current one to be upgraded so it can truly stay the "best"?
As someone who has owned a bug since the first Christmas it was offered I find it a little weird that so many of you who have never actually owned or flown one are so up in arms about this.
The truth is that for most of you complaining . . . this new ship changes absolutely nothing.
You did not own a JHAS, and you are not going to get the new one. Most of you do not PvP anyway so who cares?
They just gave all of you 2 tier 6 ships and a good console set in the span of about 2 and a half months. Are you getting left behind? Are your ships and gear unplayable? No.
So stop whining.
There seems to be way to much worrying about the new shiny car in the neighbors driveway going on here.
Oh . . . to all those people that have been saying the bug is overpowered and a one button push win 'em all that takes no skill to pilot. . .I hope the price does drop on them so you can get your hands on one.
The silence from all you folks having your foot in your mouth will be a nice change from the complaining.
I'd like to interject here to talk about the last time the JHAS promo was around. This was the post talking about it , and it specifically said:
With the release of Star Trek Online: Delta Rising, this starship (either from this run of the promotion or from previous runs) will be upgradeable to Tier 6 starship capabilities at no cost.
And while T5-U and T6 are similar, the JHAS factually does not have the capabilities of Tier 6 starships. Tier 6 starships have a 13th bridge officer ability, a starship trait, and have at least a lt. rank station with a specialization. The JHAS has none of those.
Now, while I don't personally own a JHAS, I think this is clearly deceptive advertising.
Hammer > Nail head
At the moment it clearly appears as though Cryptic straight up lied to T5 Bug owners.

^Thank You. At least someone here has some common sense. This whole argument is a waste of time.
And let's face it, you guys voicing against the JHSS are going to try to get it anyways. So what is the point, really?
You know, I have no quarrel with a company trying to keep a small part of the Star Trek franchise alive, and being relatively successful (a decent 5 year track record, with no added "Doctor Who Edition" TRIBBLE, or "But wait, look at the Battlestar Galactica ships we added!") history thus far. I appreciate this effort, growing up on Star Trek Voyager, then Enterprise and then going back to the originals myself, however there is a line.
To quote a famous man, "Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And I will make them pay for what they've done..." - Captain Picard
Now, I personally feel that yes, those who have not received the JHAS in the past are getting a stellar opportunity here, however, I do believe that those who spent money, invested time grinding, or even those lucky enough to buy a pack off the exchange before, were dedicated players, (especially after getting a bug ship ), especially considering that those who play this game are trekkies, seeking a better society for humanity and fighting to keep this universe and the legacy of Star Trek alive. That describes me.
We support you Cryptic. You asked for subscriptions, and we obliged back. You made it free to play after we bought Lifetime Subscriptions, and we accepted back. Well, I say, "The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!". I appreciate the making money, paying employees and making STO function, but please, for the memory of Star Trek, do not undermine players. We are YOUR lifeline. We support you, so you provide us with a service. Yes, thanks for the free ship every winter and summer, and now anniversary. But when you know full well that people spent so much to purchase a bug, do not spit in our faces. Yes, you released the Pathfinder, but I challenge back that that is a C-Store Item. We know what we pay for, and with the return to the Delta Quadrant, this made sense given we knew it was a one and done investment.
In conclusion, I believe that all current Bug owners, and for that matter, ALL Lockbox ship owners deserve a free T-6 upgrade, specifically if a "revamped", "retrofitted", "updated" version becomes playable. As many others have stated, check your previous offer for the Bug at the release of DR. Yea, you said T-5 JHAS owners would be quote
"With the release of Star Trek Online: Delta Rising, this starship (either from this run of the promotion or from previous runs) will be upgradeable to Tier 6 starship capabilities at no cost."

For whatever personal honor you have left, and I consider it very important in any workplace, and specifically personally in one's life, I would like to say that you are a very dishonorable place of business and I am personally offended at your actions.
On a side note, with the passing of Leonard Nimoy, your company misspelled mourning until it was revised later. That is dishonorable that you people, though with "good intentions", did not take the time to review your own post before posting about perhaps the biggest Star Trek icon that ever lived on our planet.
Please, for the honor of your company, rethink your business model to reflect your personal skills, not your business skills, for in the words of Bill Gates, a man whom I assume Cryptic recognizes as a business man of great success, please consider the following (in the words of Bill Nye, but not intentional here...) :
"We all need people who will give us feedback. That's how we improve." - Bill Gates

I apologize for this long response, but if you take the time to read this, I hope you find some of my words resonate with you. I have been here since Beta, and I will be here until the end, if not for the grinding, for the content and good natured people I have encountered in my fleet and around social systems and STFs. Fellow trekkies. I hope that Cryptic is able to live to see its 10 year anniversary, and I believe that this would be accomplished through the above quote. Listen to the players, and if in doubt, put a poll in game so that all players can provide feedback before they login. Make it mandatory, that way you know its not just "disgruntled players on the forums", or so that you could prove to us that the minority on the forums is way off the playerbase. Right now, we don't even know. Thank you, and good luck Cryptic. LLAP
Ah well, at least the superbug takes the place of the Scimitard as the most stupidly OP ship in the game.
Not necessarily. It wont have battlecloak and it wont have warp shadows so its already at a big disadvantage. Not sure if some command/intel powers can match the extra dmg and surviveability that come with those powers.
Not necessarily. It wont have battlecloak and it wont have warp shadows so its already at a big disadvantage. Not sure if some command/intel powers can match the extra dmg and surviveability that come with those powers.
No it will exist to basiclly troll pvp... where the most broken Command and Intel skills make the game completely unplayable. And we all know this ship is going to have Intel and Command seats.
There is nothing left to salvage here other then perhaps a great place to RP and for people that don't like RP to annoy the people that do. GG
I for one am pretty angry about this whole debacle.
The last time the JHAS promotion ran prior to Delta rising we were told that we would be able to upgrade the JHAS to T6 functionality at no extra cost when Delta Rising came out.
Tier 5-U is not Tier 6.
I await the stats of the JHSS but I foresee it having 11 consoles, 13 boff powers, intel/command hybrid seating plus the trait and special console.
So owners of the older JHAS are **** out of luck and their ship/previous investment is basically worthless now.
This goes against everything that Delta Rising did so well (the ability to upgrade your weapons from Mk 12 to 14, level cap increase etc) and is the fundamental problem with STO at the moment.
What is the point in spending time/resources/real world money obtaining the latest tier of vessel if there is now a precedent that newer levels/tiers will come out and make the older levels obsolete?
I have asked TIME AND TIME again that we NEED the ability to upgrade our current ships. Current JHAS owners should be able to upgrade to JHSS. All older T5/T5-U ships should be upgradeable to PROPER T6... 13th power, hybrid seating, trait. It doesnt necessarily need to be free (altho with lockbox ships it probably 'should' be) and I would pay to be able to do this.
Stop trying to force us to mothball our ships just to buy/use flavour of the month - ships ARE OUR CHARACTERS...
I feel you but I think the character of the people who run this game has been very well exposed the past year.
The re-introduction of the bug ship and the way it was done may be the greatest hit in the gaming faces of those who got it during last promotion but for Crypticss/PWEs marketing experts it was just Tuesday and the minor adjustment to rename this new craft to strike ship.
Happy 5th anniversary again STO, I suspect you are doing fine.

Cryptic has too many precedents to not think the worst by ourselves. There wasn't once when the players were wrong about powercreep, this won't be different. Time passes and oh look, my account might just have 14 hours left.
Ah well, at least the superbug takes the place of the Scimitard as the most stupidly OP ship in the game.
I do not think so...
since pvp is quite dead and pw do not want develop it and since faw builds can deal 4x the damage of any cannons build escort, stated how pve works... actually the best choise is a cruiser and a faw build (much much more dps and much much more resistance)
History repeating itself, and not in a good way.....
when the bug ship was released faw builds weren't so powerfull... if you wanted dps you had to fly escorts, and the bug ship was the best escort.
Actually a very good escort using cannons can deal about 40k dps if you are good, using the same resources yoyu need to develop such a escort you can build a cruiser using faw and dealing up 120k dps (but I remember that the best dps in a isa is about 160k).
So why investing so much resources in a escort if flying such a cruiser is like playing in "god mode"?
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Playing STO spamming FAW is like playing chess using always the computer's suggested moves
Instead of berating Cryptic/PW about the release/re-release of the bug-ship, consider it an opportunity for people who didn't get the JHAS to do it now. Not everybody got one, nor could they afford to get one - 500mil EC is a tad pricey for all but the most hardcore players.
I've got three of the original Bugs in boxes still, but my Fed characters don't fly alien ships.
(I was trying to get more Lobi, not the ships)
I've pretty much stopped trying to get anything related to a lockbox/promotion and only buy items that contain extra Lobi when I need it.
I may get a couple just to stock up on the guaranteed 10 Lobi, but I'm not interested in this ship.
I actually haven't spent any money on STO since buying the Intel pack.
It just left me with a bad taste (even more so now since the command packs have come out)
$30.00 for ONE ship is just too damn expensive, even for a game that I love.
(I know they come at a discount in multiples, but even that seems too expensive lately)

Playing STO spamming FAW is like playing chess using always the computer's suggested moves
