Nor my Kobali captain... for various reasons, I've been trying to name her ships after literary characters who came back from the dead, names for the afterlife, etcetera.
If I had a Kobali captain (and I never will), Id be thinking of naming the ship Barbossa. Agreeeeed?

Back in 2010, nobody on the kdf side used the name I.K.S. Tiger's Claw. After I started using it, they began to pop up everywhere and the kdf hasn't ever been the same since. Sometimes I want to yell at the copycats and other times, I'm happy they have a good ship name and not something disgusting.
I did name one of my toons Risan crusier the Tiger Claw but it's been dry docked for a while now, now he's flying his Sansar called The Zombie Kitty. My main toon is flying a Fleet Avenger called the USS Thunderclaw, the only one I have seen so far.
These are just a few of my old ones that I never saw anyone else use.

I have a few ship names that I'm amazed Cryptic hasn't stolen yet, either as a playable ship or an NPC from a mission. In fact I've even yet to see any other player ships with these names:
USS Pax Federatica (Tactical Odyssey): My main's flagship; the name's a play on "Pax Britannica".
USS Bonaventure (Dauntless): This was originally supposed to be the name of Zefram Cochrane's warp ship. Amazingly, only one ship by this name was ever so much as mentioned in canon, much less STO.
USS Monticello (MVAE): A Prometheus-class ship in one of my Foundry missions, it got blow'd up and its Hephaestus-variant successor is one of my playable ships.

One of my Fed characters(Chuft) has a variety of ships with names like Traitor's Claw or Traitor's Fangs.
I usually don't spend a lot of effort with names. Some of my characters use a theme to their ship names, but I usually don't spend much effort on naming ships. I did make an IKS Suv'wI Zoey though. :P
To date, the most legendary ship I'd ever seen was the magnificent Galaxy class U.S.S. Bea Arthur from way back in beta days.
Only ever saw it once, never saw it again.

I had a starter ship named U.S.S. WHEEZIE once long ago.

Personally if I saw Medusa, Lamia, Tiamat, Charybdus, Scylla, or Baobhan Sith class ships flying around I'd be flattered.
My Sci Vesta is aptly named USS MEDUSA MIRROR (its a deadly feedback pulser). ithought it was awesomely appropriate. Never seen anyone else with that name either.
It was named USS STONE OF GOL for a short time, named after the ancient Vulcan super weapon featured in TNG, which would reflect any hostilities back upon the user.
But not many people got the reference
Then when this game was almost out, they had a contest to name the ship classes, I enterered Vanguard Class for one and that name is in the game. (Albeit "Vanguard" must've been a very common entry or already existed).
Being a sci character I really wanted the wells class, I was lucky enough to get on opening my 3rd temporal lockbox. I saved really hard and bought the mobius and Aeon shuttle too. This gave me access to the aeon skin, which adorns all 3 ships.. I decided to name both ships the same as they are the mirror of each other.
Wells Class.... U.S.S. Dark Justice
Mobius.......... I.S.S. Dark Justice
Aeon............. U.S.S. Mini Justice
After Tau Dewu Gate my Tac Vesta was recommissioned as the U.S.S. Nerf Bat...
When anyone gets a new ship, a little window opens that says something like "Change Name" and "Change Registry"
So, say you don't change either, and just go, beam up, and blast the baddies.
There is a stack of default or "random" names the game will toss out to you. Evidently your ship name matches one of those "random" name picks.

Well, if they did, it would only be beaten by the U.S.S. Morgan Freeman....
I have been using the U.S.S. Kodiak for a looooong time. And the U.S.S. Thunderhammer.
Negative, U.S.S. Chuck Norris and the U.S.S. Morgan Freeman would fight until both main computers shut down.
Unless... someone was there to make repairs, in that case, if they became multigenerational ships, they would fight each other to a standstill until the universe literally burnt out, like in ToS , forever, fighting one another, to save the very fabric of the universe ...
I fly the USS Columbia on one toon, a Galaxy retrofit running phasers and the MACO space set. One day in an STF I ran across a USS Colombia with almost the same build.
Galaxy-R buddies, high-five!

Back when Legacy of Romulus came out I named my Rom Eng. Jhu and after bording the Liset recently to rescue its crew I laughed when they mentioned a crew member named what else...Jhu.

Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's, and yours.
I dare you to do better.

Believe me, I used to see that frakking name everywhere back in the day.
I guess people finally tired of that particular immature trope.
