I agree wholeheartedly OP, I don't feel like part of the federation anymore when I'm sitting next to jem, card, Tholian, breen, species 8472, etc etc at Earth Space Dock. Back when the first non-faction related spa came out they said they would be very rare as ordered by CBS ... now I feel like actual federation ships are the minority, even though they have more designs in game than any other group.
A perfect compromise? Give us a toggle in settings that makes all non-faction ships look like a random faction ship client side. Probably too time consuming though, and would likely eat up our RAM.
Bottom line? At ESD I'd rather see a sea of Norways than a mix of every race in the galaxy.
I like this idea, an appearance tab. I would love to change what all these ships look like. because they aren't rare at all and it dose look stupid on my screen when I see more non faction ships flying around esd than federation ships at times.
I said this back when Lockboxes started (and was rebuffed by pruists) but I think we at least need the option to costume alien ships in a more faction-friendly way.
Some means of giving them faction hulls and colors, visible registry and name, and faction interiors.
Yes, a grey Galor with blue deflector and Federation warp nacelles bashed onto the site with a Federation interior isn't, strictly speaking, canon. But neither are many Starfleet captains flying them longterm.
I'd be happy with just having a way to "factionalize" alien ships.

Interesting idea. This shouldn't apply to all ships, though. It'd be kind of wrong to see a Nicor with a nacelle crammed up its TRIBBLE.
We need more Vulcan ships in the game. Vulcans have been part of Star Trek since the beginning, they are the first we came into contact with. Vulcans helped shape Starfleet and the Federation. Why the lack of attention and detail to Vulcan ships. Come on, give us Vulcan ships.
Everyone wants to be different. Or in some cases want to use what they consider the best ship. Each one has their reasons. However I think most is trying to DPS the TRIBBLE out of something. Which is usually the going thing. Even in WoW most went after the DPS classes. To where they was constantly begging for tanks and healers in groups. One reason why I love tanking, never had to wait in a que.
For me, my Fed Eng usually sticks to the Fed cruisers. So he is about as much straight Fed as you can get. My KDF Eng usually sticks to the KDF battle cruisers. Unless I bring out the Breen ships. My Romulan you will see her in the Warbirds. I have an APU and Breen Carrier on her, but they are not built up for use yet.

It's one of a number of things that have ruined the Star Trek or even the generic Sci-Fi feel for me. As a result I just don't want to join a medium or large fleet where I have to deal with players running such ships.
If there was another starship game out there (that wasn't open world PvP) worth playing, I would have left this game long ago as a result.
But there wasn't. Even so, I'm finding little reason to log in these days, and when I do all I can bring myself to do is crafting, Doffing, and moving the bars on the starbase based on those two activities. The core game itself isn't worth playing.
Design of alien/exotic ships is verry good but sometimes when you are surronded by all jems, kobali, breen etc ships i dont have feeling im in star trek universe, maybe cryptic put 2 much ships that dont really represent star trek...what do yo think, maybe more fed, klingon, romulan ships in future...
And yeah 5 anniversary >>>>kobali ship????really guys, ship looks good, not bad ship to fly but..5 year sto and we get some strange alien ship...thats just f...up...
What do you think about this>??
More alien ships or more genuine sto ships??
Feel free to add your opinion abou this and suggestions..

I apologize for not reading through the rest of the thread if what I'm about to say has already been said...but uh...that's pretty much exactly how Star Trek was for the most part.
The shows/movies weren't following the adventures of the guys that worked the drydocks where we only saw Starfleet vessels or the like. It was usually following one wee Starfleet vessel out there that kept coming into contact with...aliens.
Guess what? The Federation...made up of a bunch of aliens.
The more alien ships in the game, the more it looks like I'm flying around in Star Trek and the less it looks like I've never left Earth.
Klingons are aliens to Humans. Humans are aliens to Klingons. Andorians are aliens to both.
So yeah, complaining about aliens in a Star Trek MMO for not being very much like Star Trek just blows my mind...
I agree with with the OP and was disappointed that the 5th anniversary was observed with the introduction of a Kobali ship. Maybe there are too many alien ships. The onus is really on the devs to knock it out of the park as the faction t6 lineup is unveiled. I'd like to see a renaissance among the factions that channels canon designs, allows customization for some variety and gives the designers enough freedom to add their own touches; So the finished product demonstrates they enjoyed creating them. Power levels are okay but it's not something that makes me want to purchase a ship.

I apologize for not understanding the complaint about a complaint being made that Star Trek has aliens in it. Of course the tone would be condescending and patronizing...it's Star Trek...aliens were kind of a big thing. So a complaint about aliens in Star Trek Online not being very Star Trek is a complete and total wtf/facepalm moment. So yeah, I don't get where I was making a semantics argument in the least. Complaining that too much time is spent amongst the stars in Star Trek Online because stars aren't very Star Trek?
The thread title could be misinterpreted if taken literally. Inside the the OP's first paragraph alien and exotic are used interchangeably. Federation, Klingon and Romulan faction ships are requested in lieu of these "other" ships.
An intentionally argumentative or foolish person might not, "get it". Which type are you?
Considering that (1) most, if not all, non-faction ships aren't available to the player until Level 50 (i.e. the original endgame) and (2) by that point the factions are now all allies anyway, it really doesn't bother me much. If we're all supposed to be "one big, happy fleet", we might as well have access to the same pool of ships.
There were too many playable alien ships in game the moment the bug ship was offered.
I could get on board with the OPs idea of being able to alter the visuals to a generic escort/cruiser/sci/carrier ship that was faction appropriate. It's a win-win. The player flying the faction inappropriate ship can continue to defecate all over the history of Star Trek and enjoy themselves. The rest of us who actually have an ounce of respect for the IP won't have to be assaulted visually by it.
I like it, I'd pay zen for it.

They state that the alien/exotic ships are very good, but when surrounded by them he doesn't feel like he's in the Star Trek universe.
So at what point in the Star Trek IP was it a case that it looked like a traffic jam of Fed, Klingon, and Romulan ships...as opposed to it being an all sorts of aliens going on there, yeah?
You do realize just how many faction ships are already in the game compared to non-faction ships, right?
Federation: ~117 or so
Klingon: ~82 or so
Romulan: ~50 or so
Factional: ~249 is it?
Non-Factional: ~38 is it?
So Non-Factional ships make up ~13.24% of the ships in the game?

There's a difference between encountering alien ships, whilst going where no man (or woman) went before, and flying them yourself: the former is very much Trek, the latter not so much (The Voyage Home notwithstanding).
Go to ESD, and, indeed, I'm seeing too many exotic ships in orbit, for my taste. I would say it is, indeed, not very Trek to see a Star Fleet sky populated with >75% exotic (= non-Federation origin) ships. Typically, any military force would primarily use their own vessels (with maybe one or two prototype ships they nicked off the enemy).
So, while there's nothing inherently wrong with having exotic ships, as the saying goes, Sole dosis facit venenum, only the dose makes a poison.

Thing is, for me at least, it's obvious why there would be alien ships in orbit around Earth, Qo'noS, and even New Romulus.
The Federation...are the great diplomats. So wouldn't there be all sorts of alien traffic as the Federation carried out their diplomatic mission?
The Klingons...are the great conquerors. So wouldn't there be all sorts of alien traffic as the Empire showed off their spoils of war?
The Romulans...are rebuilding. So much like the Federation, would there not be all sorts of alien traffic as they were seeking new allies, setting up diplomatic missions, seeking trade partnerships, and all the rest?
It's all just a completely "no duh" situation with the ships being there.
I wouldn't mind more Faction-specific ships in the Intel design vein, though I do hope the upcoming Command ships have their own unique design as well. CBS presumably cleared them (otherwise, they wouldn't be in the game), so they're Trek enough.
That said, simplest fix would just be allowing for Faction Material skin use on claimed non-Faction ships and 7-day Holoemitters to change your ship's visual into any other ship of your Faction. One time use, 100 Zen. Remains active for 7 days (auto-disables when entering PvP). Cannot be sold on the Exchange. Must be equipped into a Device Slot. Can be toggled on or off. Holo-emitter visuals (that show it's a holo-emitter "skin") deactivated while in combat. Cannot change ship visual once selected (first use lets you choose the ship you want to project over the hull, but is set thereafter until it expires).
Lobi versions available to mimic non-faction ships and are tradable, just for equal opportunity.

Sure, I got no problem seeing Klink or Romulan ships around ESD. Or Vulcan, Andorian, and maybe several others we're either doing business with (Ferengi) or are becoming acquainted with diplomatically (Kobali? But that's probably just a dead end :P Sorry, couldn't resist). But Tholians?! Or Undine?! Or Voth?! We're fighting those folks on a daily basis! Which actually compounds the weirdness: fighting our foes in their own ships!
And if players don't use these holoemitters they get banned from the game for ruining my immersion
Hah. And suddenly lose sustainability off their very lucrative Lobi/Lockbox/Event ships that people pay plenty for.
Cryptic won't make Faction ships (except maybe Feds) lucrative, because that's a one-time purchase for account-wide unlocks. The only ship that really could be considered lucrative is the Phantom due to its trait and setup with full Intel access.
Cryptic won't make alien ships useless; because people pay more for each ship for each character they want.
It would be funny though if Cryptic did have a Faction filter for purists that made any non-faction ship look like a close-NPC equivalent to the ones with it turned on. That Sheshar outside ESD now looks like a Jupiter. When it separates into two, it becomes two Jupiters. The Astika now looks like an Avenger. The Samsar looks like a Galaxy (thinly veiled Cryptic-style insult). The Manasa looks like Defiant.

Time doesn't work that way in STO. You could have 40 folks in orbit around ESD and each of them is there, but each of them could exist at a different point in time.
how many of thos ships are endgame? and by that i mean (F)T5-U and T6...
Your definition of endgame doesn't really concern me since endgame can be done in any T5 9 console ship and up...and that's before considering the endgame smallcraft content as well.
None of it really matters when the complaint is about what ships are seen while flying about...and...endgame really isn't involved in flying about since it's pop a queue and you're there.

My post on the thread verbatim. Aesthetically and thematically I don't like the proliferation of ships outside of the faction navies but that wasn't mentioned because it isn't worth arguing trivialities. I didn't suggest the removal of alien ships or restrictions places on their usage. Most importantly I didn't suggest your personal choices should be restricted and the OP didn't either. My issue is with the blase manner you approached the conversation in.
...maybe that's something you should consider in regard to the posts you've made so far? Just saying...OP asked for opinions, got a couple that you disagreed with...at which point you did what?
That was an opinion? You didn't so much present an opinion as TRIBBLE on the dialogue as a whole.
Oh, so it's not just what ships I can and cannot fly you want to decide...but also how I post?
Not at all. It does demonstrate how self important you are and how casually you consider what other people are saying though. You really should read things in their entirety before making your proclamations.

The Samsar looks like a Galaxy (thinly veiled Cryptic-style insult). The Manasa looks like Defiant.
Time doesn't work that way in STO. You could have 40 folks in orbit around ESD and each of them is there, but each of them could exist at a different point in time.
Why does it bother you so much what ships other folks are flying? How does that actually affect anything you're doing?
My post on the thread verbatim. Aesthetically and thematically I don't like the proliferation of ships outside of the faction navies but that wasn't mentioned because it isn't worth arguing trivialities. I didn't suggest the removal of alien ships or restrictions places on their usage. Most importantly I didn't suggest your personal choices should be restricted and the OP didn't either. My issue is with the blase manner you approached the conversation in.
That was an opinion? You didn't so much present an opinion as TRIBBLE on the dialogue as a whole.
Not at all. It does demonstrate how self important you are and how casually you consider what other people are saying though. You really should read things in their entirety before making your proclamations.
