I dont get it .. People hoarded marks to turn in at DIL event

Why has this been changed? can someone explain this to me. (the official post says something like making it a more valuable thing by returning it regularly)

Is there an game breaking issue that arises when players play content and earn stuff to save for a best exchange period ? After all to hoard stuff you still have to play content right? ..right?

Further the Dil event always had this extra dil reward for turning in marks. Why do the the peeps at cryptic have their panties in a bunch about it now? It does not make sense to me.

Well OP, you have to consider that since the passing of time after DR's release, it's been nothing but a long series of nerfs. That's why I like to call it, "Nerfs Rising."

LOL so F2P is now truly for only "content" ... if you even dream of thinking that you can become competitive you will have to contribute some money.... even if you actually do spend 50 bucks (the near equivalent of a triple A game title) on a trio of ships like say the scimitar.

Too true bro. Your wife is right me thinks. Im an F2P player and been around for a few months. Spent a few dollars on ships and the rest of the time trying to earn stuff to improve my build. But the incessant money grubbing through game design and nerfs is putting me off from this title.

I cant imagine new players actually getting involved in this game. It feels like its just catered to them peeps who were playing back in 2012 or something. LOL the posts i see on this forum are only from peeps from that year.

STO is being turned into an Asian grinder. For that, 2 things need to happen: monetize everything, and nerf all vestiges of possible sources of in-game income. The latter is what we're seeing here. Word went out, from above, to seek out any and all ways people are making Dilithium, and then nerf those.

Cryptic just wanted to see how many dil threads they could get people to create, it's as simple as that. It's one of their metrics ;)

The official response was that the, say, 5-20 minutes it would take for people to turn in marks would take away playing time during the event. And this weekend event was meant for collecting omega molec...I mean playing STFs, not wasting valuable playing time by collecting mo...spending 5-20 minutes converting marks. I mean, that could upset the balance of the queues.

Haha dude you are too right.. asian grind games have so little story and content that the minute they have a substantial player base is the minute they start to @ape the player base. But its surprising that Star trek with its million episodes and spin offs and multiple story lines and fan base can start to be hawkers in the mmo world after just 5 years.

Maybe something is innately wrong with the game.

LOL too true bro... but its a little sad to see them stoop so low. I cant ever look at what they say in their announcements and PR spins to be honest any more... they feel like Macdonalds trying to justify minimum wage or even AIG complaining about its supposed "unfair" multiple billion dollar bail out .

I am curious to know if Corporate Headquarters scans the game's forums from time to time. I want to believe they look to see how their customers see the game, but with more recent nerfing I have my doubts they even give the slightest care except the data on spreadsheets. *shrugs*

Dude i agree with you. It feels real sad and to be honest and a little "passive - aggressive annoyed" that a major part of sci fi culture can be pi$$ed one by a few stupid corporate gremlins.... I just hope the devs in this game have their Vitas brushed up for better prospects

Neverwinter is such a great game. I wonder each time there is another nerf in STO if the Star Trek Online team is cryptics way to get rid of employees. Kind of a bad bank, only for employees.

A mass mark conversions project, could have easily solved that issue, hell I even gave them a proposal for the perfect way to implement it as well!

So, this is not a legitimate excuse at all!

True for me, any way. I haven't "hoarded" marks I just don't have the motivation to convert them because it is just so tedious at 50 a time. The weekend event gives me the motivation. Give me a mass conversion project and I would do them anytime.

In the same way the bonus marks weeked give me the motivation, and by the looks of it quite a few others, to go to Defari Invasion or to Nakura.

Bingo. Though, if they ever do that in the future, the excuse evaporates.

I have somewhere in the neighborhood of about 7,500 marks in all flavors on my main. I probably have about half this amount on each my four alts. I didn't think I was hoarding them until the subject appeared in this thread and others. At a certain point, after one has all the gear one wants, they just start piling up. Same with Dilithium.

Got all this by just playing whenever and whatever I wanted. Along the way, did use some of them for Rep Gear and ships and buying Zen and such. But mostly just played while letting the Marks and the Rep progression take care of themselves.

I made a deliberate choice to not spend all my game time acquiring the Shiny Of The Week as well. The shinys are nice. I really like each and every one of them I have. But the Shinys will arrive when they want to, not when I want them to. Same with Dilithium.

their panties are bunched (and someone else may have already said this) because they want you to spend cash to get zen to sell for dilithium. if you can suddenly get 750 for a few seconds of waiting off marks you had no other use for...that means you won't need to buy zen as much or at all.

they don't get the fact that you had to run missions to get those marks in the first place...they just seethe metric of it only takes a few seconds to get quite a bit of dilithium and you're not buying zen to do it.

that's the problem with metrics, there is no metric for fun, or effort, no metric for grind. numbers aren't emotion. they aren't effort, they're statistics with a new label attached. metrics can tell you 50 played a mission...but they can't tell you why they did...did they do it because it was fun? because of the reward? because they were bored atm and just wanted to blow some stuff up?

eh minor off topic rant at the end there...but the metric BS ticks me off. they could just freaking ASK THE PLAYERS. metrics have a use...but when it comes to how a player enjoys or hates a game they're useless.

Because the event isn't to reward you for stuff you did 4 months ago. It's about getting people to actively play the game on the event. And "active" play is not exactly hopping characters and turning in hundreds of marks.

It's not only an incentive for people to come back to the game and play it (but with whom, if everyone is turning in marks), but it's also a way to give them a bit of a head start so they don't lag quite as strong behind the people that log in every day. But by allowing people to bank marks for extra rewards on this item, the effect is completely the opposite. Only people that regularly play could reap the full rewards.

    From the first link.
Most of the teams here do NOT play the games that they build.

and this explains a lot about Delta Rising...
Despite claims by management suggesting otherwise, quality is a distant second to getting it done on time.

and this says it all why people think Cryptic is so deaf on posts...
Apathy and ignorance towards the product and customers.

Actually that change and other choices Cryptic has made is having the reverse effect on me. I'm deleting alt toons and playing a lot less.
