A Shutup Wesley Christmas

wesleycrasherwesleycrasher Member Posts: 117 Arc User
Greetings fellow STO Players!

As a fleet, Shutup Wesley has organized holiday parties for our sister fleets (Nerds of Prey, Starfleet Dental, etc) in the past and we've had so much fun that we've decided to open the event up to the public this year! In the spirit of bonding the community and getting some coveted items into the hands of less fortunate, newer players, it is our pleasure to invite you to A Shutup Wesley Christmas 3. This year's prize pool is bigger than ever before, featuring: at least one of each lobi, lockbox, and promotional ship, 50 Fleet Ship Modules, 50 Starship Requisition Upgrades, and plenty of master keys, doff packs, bonus pools, and various loot to assuage even the neediest, or perhaps greediest, soul.

This year's party will take place on Saturday, January 3rd at 3pm PST (23:00GMT). Hopefully, this date will be after most people have wrapped up their family holiday plans and are relaxing on their first free weekend in quite some time. Everything pertaining to the event will be announced and carried out in the WesleyChristmas channel. It's open now, so feel free to join.

Featured Events Include:
  1. Trivia
  2. Costume Contests
  3. Where's Wesley
  4. Tactical Ski Racing

Trivia

Be the first to answer the question correctly and win one of a fabulous assortment of prizes, including Master Keys, Fleet Ship Modules, Starship Requisition Upgrades, and much more!

  • TOS/TAS/TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT Trivia
  • Star Trek Online Trivia
  • DJO Trivia
  • And more!

Costume Contests

Show us your mastery of the tailor. First place wins a lockbox ship of your choice, runner-up receives a lobi ship of your choice.*

  • Striped Sweaters - The best looking Wesley Crusher wins!
  • Supertrekker - Come dressed as your favorite Star Trek character!
  • Medical Emergency - Space can get pretty dangerous... come as someone desperately in need of medical attention!
  • For Science! - Come dressed as your favorite real or fictional scientist!
  • Goatees Everywhere - The best part of Enterprise... dress as your favorite mirror universe character!
  • Meet the Devs! - You've seen them at conventions, on livestreams, and in interviews. Now come dressed as your favorite Cryptic employee!
  • Best Overall - Make the best costume you can come up with!
  • Worst Overall - Literally the worst tailoring abomination you can create!

Where's Wesley

A series of Shutup Wesley characters will be hidden throughout the known galaxy. At the time of the event their locations will be revealed. Be the first one to find them and open (and keep open) a trade window with them to receive a fabulous prize pack, including:

  • A Voth Ship Pack - A Bulwark, Bastion, & Palisade
  • An Elachi Ship Pack - A Sheshar, S'Golth, & Monbosh
  • A Jem'Hadar Ship Pack - A Jem'Hadar Attack Ship, Heavy Escort Carrier, & Dreadnought Carrier
  • And one easier to find Wesley that will give out a shuttle of your choice!

Tactical Ski Racing

Slap on some Frosted Boots and line up for a race! Playing dirty is encouraged so bring your cover shields or any other obstacles you want to throw at your competitors. Winner will receive any remaining ship of their choice.* This event will most likely be held on a fleet map, due to the need for free use of captain abilities and items, and be invite-only. Invites given to winners of trivia questions.

So make sure you've got your costumes created in advance, pick up some Frosted Boots from Q's Winter Wonderland and get ready to have some fun!

Hope to see you there,

The Members of Shutup Wesley

*A minimum of one of each premium ship will be available at the start of the event. Options will dwindle as events progress and prizes are claimed. Freighters will be considered lobi ships for purposes of deciding prizes.
All the toys you can't afford.

But you know what? I guess it doesn't matter now does it? By being allowed to visit their studios Cryptic has pretty much signed off on you and your fleet haven't they? They've said in deed what most of us have suspected for years. They're not going to stop you. They're not going to correct you. You won. After long last, you really, really won. STO is yours and no one is going to do a thing about it. Congratulations.

I think that this is the first time that this event has been made available to members of the general public.

I do hope that you all take full advantage of the incredible generosity displayed by Shutup Wesley in running this event.

Great initiative guys! Might actually drop by. Not for the prices but for a good time!

Wish Cryptic itself would do some more community engagement like this.

Its funny how the Dental/Wesley/Nerds of Prey seem to do a better job at creating events and promotions then crpytic.

The first started public and then we ran a private one the first year. Second year was private.

Well I think Branflakes thought the same thing when he forbade us from promoting a public holiday giveaway last year.

What a wonderful idea! And thank you for the kind invitation.

I dunno if I'll participate in the contests but I do intend to attend. These sorts of things are always fun.
More people need to be reminded this is just a game a lot more often.

And if pwe/cryptic gets their noses out of joint because customers do better special events than the, ahem,
"paid professionals", then maybe it is past time they got some new paid professionals.

    Feeling your consciences, huh?

Nice that you're continuing the relative non-jerkishness of Nerds of Prey. This really could be implemented in a less obviously biased way, but it is nonetheless generous and better than nothing.

Still doesn't make up for the raging, entitled, self-obsessed elitism of the JHAS deletion video, but it's a nice thing.

Good luck and try not to preen to much. You guys are less annoying when you self-deprecate.

EDIT: Also, happy holidays, Nabreeki, you amusing piece of TRIBBLE...

    Wait.

Nabreeki, are you secretly Mr. Hanky? Because Mr. Hanky cracks me up.

Sounds like a fantastic time, I remember last year's event, the racing was my favorite, won a bunch of doff packs and fleet ship modules, great times.

Even better now that it's open to the public.

I can't wait to see what horrific abominations the minds of STOs players can come up with with the character creator.

I LOVED that video! Is it still up on Youtube?

Yes, and it's still as eye-rollingly hypocritical as ever.

The thing that people need to remember about Dental is that they're the polar opposite of people like xternity. They're bored sociopaths, not self-obsessed pillars of arrogance.

While I'm sure that somebody at some point thought that that video was funny, it came off to me, my roommates, my dorm, my buddies from Psi Phi (not a frat), and about half of campus as an immense, steaming mountain of self-obsessed, arrogant, elitist bile. Which is kind of what it is.

Credit to Dental, though, they're OK guys if you don't try to make yourself out to be inherently superior to them for whatever reason. And they throw awesome parties.

This thread is about a Shutup Wesley event, not about your opinion of Dental. Shutup Wesley is a completely different fleet with different people. Dental has absolutely no hand in the creation or execution of the Holiday party -- we're competing just like the rest of you.

You know what, I'm not going to waste oxygen arguing with you over something so mind-blowingly pathetic.

You did give me a solid two-minute laughing fit, though. Congrats on that.

Also, to assuage my suspicions: Are you or are you not Mr. Hankey IRL? Because both you and he make me laugh, and you're a POS* from an attitude standpoint and he's literally a POS.

Anyway. Congrats to Shutup Wesley and the affiliates that everyone knows it has despite all statements to the contrary, for doing a genuinely nice thing. From my sociopathic side, congrats on doing it in a way that still feels vaguely biased and elitist. I probably won't be able to come because I'm stuck at my parents' place over winter break and they are having a nonstop stream of winter parties. Just like every other damn year...I'll be lucky to be able to play at all. :(

*I use this term in a moderately neutral way; it is the term I normally use when joking around with my roommate, who I am on good terms with despite him getting me addicted to Skyrim (that clever scumbag...).

Hey everybody, I know this event involves some polarizing figures, but can we try to embrace the holiday spirit and stick to a truce in this thread and during the event? No need to bicker, we're just trying to have a good time here.

That said, the prize pool is not set in stone. If there is something we haven't mentioned that you'd like to see included, please let us know! There's a week left to prepare and I'd be happy to spend it customizing the party to make sure everyone has a good time.

While I likely won't be able to attend, may I suggest a tag team of Dentals, Wesley members, and Nerds of Prey standing around with party poppers of all varieties and a metric ton of disco balls?

That'd make for a really good party.

I had this idea earlier, but I was unsure if you were wanting any ideas for other things, but since you are open to it, here is mine:

How about R & D boxes? C-store and/or queue ones. Doesn't have to be the promotion boxes that can drop a Sheshar, but that will be taking place on an R & D weekend, so anybody who got any would be getting more than normal.

On a similar note, perhaps as well, the various unique gear that can be crafted, such as the science console, omni-beam array, or superior upgrade items (maybe even the experimental ones?).

If not, no biggie, figured I'd say so at least, and either way, I have enjoyed these parties in the past, so I will hopefully be able to show up for a time.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

    I'll consider the R&D packs.

We've got a few Epic consoles and weapons of varying types on hand, but their application is so specific I feel like if we just blindly gave it out as a prize it would be highly unlikely to go to someone that actually needs it. The idea behind this event is to have fun, but also for older, established players to donate useful items to newer, less fortunate players. I'd really rather not just be giving out prizes that will instantly be posted on the exchange for a profit. I'm not so naive as to think that won't happen anyway, but I'd rather not exacerbate such behavior.

    Point, there.

Most of the good stuff (TR-116s, ship packs) will be posted anyway unless you can ensure that it binds somehow.

Unless the devs fix the infopanels, so you can check people's accolade points. Low accolades generally means newer player.

One thing that probably won't go to waste is superior and superior experimental tech upgrades. Those are in that zone on the exchange where they're prohibitively expensive for the average newbie but chump change for an elite player; no self-proclaimed elite is going to play with SW and TRIBBLE for half an hour for a couple of upgrade techs.

Another idea is to give more than you say. Say you're giving out one UR tech upgrade? Give one of each type, and spend ten minutes or so helping the newbie through it. Give away a ship pack? Spend fifteen minutes helping the guy with builds.

    That's how I'd do it.

Alternatively, simply accept that people are going to take advantage of this, and just have fun anyway. Putting more ship packs in circulation will increase supply, driving down prices--and that lets you play heroic savior of the game by helping the grind for lobi ships be less absurd in EC terms.

I've only been in-game for around 20 months, so I'm not an elite veteran (although I know how to build and fly a ship, parse 10k regularly in a gimped build, have soloed ISN, CSN, and KASN for kicks with optional, et cetera); if I had anything good to give away, I'd donate.

Unfortunately, the best I've got is some MK X purple stuff that I'm going to upgrade and slap on my Scimitard someday.

Good luck with the party and happy holidays.

A party? At dental, we call that Tuesday.

Seriously though, those of you with slower computers might want to fiddle with your settings before the party. Figure that any device/item/consumable/ability which causes a visible effect is going to get used, probably all at the same time.
