Hey everybody, I know this event involves some polarizing figures, but can we try to embrace the holiday spirit and stick to a truce in this thread and during the event? No need to bicker, we're just trying to have a good time here.

That said, the prize pool is not set in stone. If there is something we haven't mentioned that you'd like to see included, please let us know! There's a week left to prepare and I'd be happy to spend it customizing the party to make sure everyone has a good time.

I had this idea earlier, but I was unsure if you were wanting any ideas for other things, but since you are open to it, here is mine:

How about R & D boxes? C-store and/or queue ones. Doesn't have to be the promotion boxes that can drop a Sheshar, but that will be taking place on an R & D weekend, so anybody who got any would be getting more than normal.

On a similar note, perhaps as well, the various unique gear that can be crafted, such as the science console, omni-beam array, or superior upgrade items (maybe even the experimental ones?).

If not, no biggie, figured I'd say so at least, and either way, I have enjoyed these parties in the past, so I will hopefully be able to show up for a time.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

    I'll consider the R&D packs.

We've got a few Epic consoles and weapons of varying types on hand, but their application is so specific I feel like if we just blindly gave it out as a prize it would be highly unlikely to go to someone that actually needs it. The idea behind this event is to have fun, but also for older, established players to donate useful items to newer, less fortunate players. I'd really rather not just be giving out prizes that will instantly be posted on the exchange for a profit. I'm not so naive as to think that won't happen anyway, but I'd rather not exacerbate such behavior.

    Point, there.

Most of the good stuff (TR-116s, ship packs) will be posted anyway unless you can ensure that it binds somehow.

Unless the devs fix the infopanels, so you can check people's accolade points. Low accolades generally means newer player.

One thing that probably won't go to waste is superior and superior experimental tech upgrades. Those are in that zone on the exchange where they're prohibitively expensive for the average newbie but chump change for an elite player; no self-proclaimed elite is going to play with SW and TRIBBLE for half an hour for a couple of upgrade techs.

Another idea is to give more than you say. Say you're giving out one UR tech upgrade? Give one of each type, and spend ten minutes or so helping the newbie through it. Give away a ship pack? Spend fifteen minutes helping the guy with builds.

    That's how I'd do it.

Alternatively, simply accept that people are going to take advantage of this, and just have fun anyway. Putting more ship packs in circulation will increase supply, driving down prices--and that lets you play heroic savior of the game by helping the grind for lobi ships be less absurd in EC terms.

I've only been in-game for around 20 months, so I'm not an elite veteran (although I know how to build and fly a ship, parse 10k regularly in a gimped build, have soloed ISN, CSN, and KASN for kicks with optional, et cetera); if I had anything good to give away, I'd donate.

Unfortunately, the best I've got is some MK X purple stuff that I'm going to upgrade and slap on my Scimitard someday.

Good luck with the party and happy holidays.

You should give away Talaxian bridge officers, a gift that keeps on giving.

Yes...tossed around like hot potatoes because nobody wants the shame of having one of those ugly stoners in an officer's seat...

Hey, I take offense to that. Not all stoners are ugly. Some of us are butt-fugly. :D

While I likely won't be able to attend, may I suggest a tag team of Dentals, Wesley members, and Nerds of Prey standing around with party poppers of all varieties and a metric ton of disco balls?

That'd make for a really good party.
A party? At dental, we call that Tuesday.

Seriously though, those of you with slower computers might want to fiddle with your settings before the party. Figure that any device/item/consumable/ability which causes a visible effect is going to get used, probably all at the same time.

I think you mean correct quantities. There's no such thing as an excess of social items.

But you know what? I guess it doesn't matter now does it? By being allowed to visit their studios Cryptic has pretty much signed off on you and your fleet haven't they? They've said in deed what most of us have suspected for years. They're not going to stop you. They're not going to correct you. You won. After long last, you really, really won. STO is yours and no one is going to do a thing about it. Congratulations.

An excess of disco and balloon animals does no harm.

I hope to be able to make it!

I do not believe in the concept of "an excess of Disco Balls and balloon animals". I only have about four hundred or so Disco Balls spread across five characters.

It is not enough. I will bring what I have, though.

A collection of party poppers has been added to the prize pool. Can't leave the less fortunate out on all the fun, now can we?

That is understandable and makes sense. Heck, I'll be honest, if I happened to get a ship, unless it was one I was wanting, I'd probably sell it. I dunno what I'd do with any gear if you gave it away, but that is what you are getting at though, and I can see your point.

I do hope you will also consider the Superior and Experimental upgrades, as I feel that those would be used over being sold. They still need dil, but that isn't something that can be changed, though I could see giving anybody who got some of these some contraband to help with that.

Just tossing out ideas of course.

This should be an epic party. I'll see if I can come, but no promises.

Another last-minute recommendation: A "ticket" delivered via PM guaranteeing a STF training run with a Dental, Nerd, or Wesley leader for the recipient and any three of their friends. That could actually be pretty cool, given that my experiences have shown Dentals and their allies to be top-tier players.

And Nabreeki? Disco balls. Leave no corner, nook, or cranny uncovered. For the sake of the party.

    Good luck and happy holidays.

Our first few giveaways were haphazard affairs, with Santa Couch standing on a table and just tossing things out to the crowds. The one after that were largely internal for Dental and NoP. The first year, I think we gave away about a billion EC worth of stuff. The second year, we gave away a little over 3 billion EC worth of stuff. This year's prize pool is easily the largest we've ever run, estimated at about 6 billion so far. I'm looking forward to the event, it's going to be a blast. My favorite is definitely the costume contest, so bring your best (and worst!) outfits you can make!

Here's an idea. Have Nabreeki or Butts help you on the big day. Just imagine, two or even three guys, dressed like bizarre interpretations of Santa Claus, spamming party balls and poppers while giving away gift after gift...

It would be glorious. And very disco.

A suggestion for prizes, if I may. A very long time ago, someone gifted me with both the MU Vor'cha and the MU Qin. I was a new player at the time and both ships were a blast to play. Later on, I purchased some of the MU Starfleet vessels and they are just as much fun to use.

I realize there are level limitations on using these ships but they can be given to a player who is a lower level than the one currently specified for the particular ship.

I have a few and I can acquire a few more. If anyone is interested in adding these to the prize pool, please contact me ingame at @thunderfoot1007, or please PM me from here. If you have enough stuff to give away already, would there be any objection to me giving these away even tho I am not a member of any of the Fleets involved in this event?

See y'all at the party! :D

We considered MU ships, but that's a very attainable item for most players. We were aiming more for the things that are usually priced out of reach of the average guy.

That said, I encourage you to give them out as well, just not at the party. Its usually chaotic and difficult enough to wrangle a bunch of players at once without having competing voices in the mix. I hope to see you there!
