No we don't. We already have a 5/3 dread which is still at the top of raw firepower.
What the roms (and klings) are in dire need of is a proper sci ship, T6 preferably. The romulan (and klingon) shipyard is already full of tactical focused ships whereas the sci department is a barren wasteland.
but I would love to have a rom raider (4/2 cloaking flanker) or 5/2 assault warbird at t6. The scim was always a bit of a cow and after flying my new raptor, it feels even worse than ever. I would gladly give up an aft weapon for a smaller ship that can turn.
I agree with seriousdave and noroblad that KDF and especially Rommies need a better sci ship.
With the fed faction recently receiving 6 new ships, the time is right to correct the imbalance in science ships for the KDF and Romulan factions beyond couple of whimpy sci focused faction ships and lock box ships.

the box ships are not all that wimpy.
I may be down 1 sci console but I will put my recluse and adapted cruiser against any rom or kdf sci ship all day long and call mine better. Of course, t6 is going to erode these old boats but it has not happened yet.

Well they're lockbox ships - not really KDF or Romulan at all. Granted the Korath and R'Mor at least have appropriate stylings for their factions, but you can't really count such ships (with their extreme costs) as an answer.
As noroblad noted, currently KDF / RR Sci captains have no "native" ships at T6 and precious little at T5; this is probably part of the reason why KDF / Rom Science Destroyers are more common (in my experience) than their Fed counterparts.
A 5/2 Science Ship with a starship trait that gives all attacks (including torpedo and mines) a 25% chance to ignore 50% of their target's shields.
Or
A 3/3 Science Ship with a starship trait that causes all science abilities to apply a "Romulan Espionage" stack on the target. One stack equals a 25% chance that the next skill used will backfire, causing it to hit an instant 45 second recharge. Stacks up to 4 times.
Hey, a man can dream.

heh dream on. Remember that traits are usable on all ships, so that 50% shield ignore would immediately go onto a t6 raptor ....

I factored the wimpy across the and as is proper in english. Perhaps, being casual english, he did not mean (wimpy) kdf AND (wimpy) box ships but (wimpy kdf) and box ships. "AND" has become hard to unravel in common use, but that was how I read it, so I was saying the box ones are not so bad.

I failed with my intent, I meant to say that the KDF and Romulan faction available science ships are whimpy and that the best available choices are lock box ships which aren't as easy to obtain.
The recluse is a monster with those pets.
we need a 5/2 light warbird, preferably one that comes with a 180 plasma torp
NO NO NO. Roms have the dreadnought with a 5/3 that is KING of damage. Even with tier 6s, Plus singularity abilities, yeah not needed on both counts.

Quite correct. If anything, just transition the Scimitar to T6 and be done with it. Should be hilarious to see what a T6 Scimitar can do though :P
The Scimitar is a damn unique package.
- Handling, survivability, weapon slotting of a Cruiser
- TAC BOFF seating & Console Slots of an Escort
- Advantages of Romulan Battle Cloaking
IMHO, it's not the 5/3 slotting that makes the Scimitar so strong in the Beamboat role that it's infamous for. It's the points I listed. The very strong Drones are just icing on the cake Pre-DR, but not sure how they were impacted with the recent hangar unit nerf.

I agree that we need a true T6 sci-ship before we need a 5/2. That being said, once we get one or two good sci-ships, a 5/2 assault warbird would have my full support. A 180 plasma torp would just be icing on the cake.

Are you willing to give up on cloak/battle cloak to get that otherwise it's one of those ships that's almost impossible to balance.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
The Romulans do have the Ha'nom Guardian Warbird, but you need to wait until level 40 to get your 1st science ship. Additionally, with the -40 power penalty imposed by the Singularity Core, it makes balancing ship power a bit more tricky for a Romulan science toon. You basically have to sacrifice weapon power to so that Aux power (and perhaps shield power) are high enough to use science abilities. However, this means you sacrifice energy weapon DPS in the process.
My Romulan science toon is currently flying the Federation Ambassador Support Cruiser Retro-fit instead of the Ha'nom. While not a true science ship and Romulan ship, at least I do not have to deal with the -40 power penalty. I am also working on getting the Breen carrier since it has a Commander science station.
At worse I will fall back on the Tal Shiar Adapted Battle Cruiser which I purchased (but not unboxed yet) from the Exchange for around 85m EC (recently sellling for 100m EC) which has a Lt. Cmdr science station and a Cmdr universal station for my Romulan science toon. At least that is a Romulan ship with a cloaking device.
I think the Faeht serves the new tac ship role for the next while. Granted, it would be nice to have a 5/2 fast attacker at some point. But then again, the Fleet Faeht has yet to arrive, so the party hasn't really started yet.
Science ship, 2-bay carrier, and tank-focused cruiser (to offset Scimitar and Aelahl tac-focus) are top on my list.
Are you willing to give up on cloak/battle cloak to get that otherwise it's one of those ships that's almost impossible to balance.
?
scim is a 5/3. So are many other ships now. A 5/2 escort is not out of line in and of itself, even with cloak and singularity. Cannons are out of favor so it would just be a 1 gun less scimitar, really, with a LT intel seat and t6 consoles. You know, like the maha, only a warbird.
I would love a 5/2 warbird with wing cannons ala kumari ships.
I would also like a proper t6 sci ship, with a 4/2 layout, commander sci and lt cmdr tac.
If all you want is tac ships then you don't really need anything else...trying to turn Sci into a dps is kinda silly and we already are bloated with tac ships.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
Just once again, also going to voice my opinion that sci ships are needed. Please stop asking for tac ships. There's already a ton of solid T6 or T5U tac romulan ships to choose from.
On the other hand, the only c store sci ship available for roms is the dyson destroyer, which is a hybrid ship, not a sci ship. The regular Hanom is the level 40 freebie ship and NOT upgradeable. I'm not sure if the fleet version is, but not everyone is part of a fleet or wants to grind fleet creds to get a competitive science ship ... especially given the level 40 non-fleet Hanom wouldn't even survive the content to get that fleet upgrade (again, if it exists and is upgradeable) in the first place.
Klingons at least have a really good sci-carrier. They also have easy access to Plasmonic Leech, one of the best sci oriented universal consoles in game.
Roms have nothing. I *really* wanted to play a sci rom as I love roms in general, and I love battle cloak and singularity abilities, but I gave up and made a Fed sci captain my main just so I can fly actual science ships (plus Feds have *three* T6 sci ships at this moment, whereas roms and klingons have none).
Romulans need a science-oriented Raider/Warbird hybrid T6 ship with a 180 torp, wing cannons, and an Advanced Battle Cloak.
Or just a full Carrier.
Why are so many people hung up on wing cannons? The Andorian ones are okay but they're nothing special and their stats flat out suck...they're as if not more gimmicky than Quad Cannons.

Step 2: Make it a T6
Step 3: Replace BOff layout with the following.
Cmd Sci, LTC Eng/Intel, LTC Tac, Lt Universal, Ens Sci
Congratulations, you now have a Sci and a Carrier and the first Carrier with 8 weapon slots, because why not.
You could even keep it in the proper D'deridex family to keep the D'deridex consoles!

Yes, there is irony in that statement.
Balanced? Which game have you played the last... 5 years?
The Hanom is a lovely sciship.
It is not T6, and it is NOT enough.

I still use 'em. I really haven't noticed much difference. They still last forever, no matter what I send them up against.

After the KDF get a worthy T5-U or T6 KDF-specific SCI vessel addition (with fleet versions) added to the game.
Sorry, I HAD to go there. lol
Or just a full Carrier.

Commander Sci/Int hybrid,
LTC Sci
LTC Eng
LT Tact/Intel hybrid
LT universal.
Sensor Analysys, and subsystem targeting.
In style similar to the Think like a Faeht, but smaller, with a tighter wingspan.
With a similar vessel for the KDF, except Ltcmdr Tact, and lt Eng/Intel hybrid for theirs.
