I have heard your complaints about the new WW look. It's a little late to do anything about that this year. I have brought it up to our art lead, and while I don't think we'll get rid of it completely for next year, I think that we can certainly make improvements to the look of things, bring in contrast, and some more wood. (heh)
Was about to suggest that... Keep the Elsa-castle, but replace the furniture with Wood.
And the sticks holding the gazebo thingie... Replace them with wood... Seems someone has a very unclear screen, so the can't see them... (better to get rid of them entirely though).
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

I'd keep the gazebo supports ice, but make them more fluid and flying buttress like. Also... remove the ones that are positioned in the track since faceplanting on them is a pain. :P
I like the new look. I would like to see wooden benches, and tables, as it doesn't really make sense to have those as ice. However, I really like the look of the icy floors and bridges.
But running on slippery surfaces is the whole point of winter!
but without risk where would you be when everyone can just go as fast as they like, just pile up yellow snow nearby, it should keep everyone in line :P
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

While at least personally I am not really bothered by the new design, I admit I am sentimental about the old gazebo. So a bit of two minds on it. I can work in either just fine but I can see the points others are making about the warm vs. cool atmospheres.
That said, I find my little creative mind a bit challenged as to *how* to merge the two designs.
I've heard the suggestion about adding wooden sections, though if it is just the furniture inside the gazebo with nothing else that's probably going to create an annoying optical illusion of stuff floating out in the middle of a field of blue-white. That's a horrible description but you know your art stuff--I'm sure you can translate it into something more "correct." At least personally I can understand where the original design choices came from (the wrong kind of contrast against an ice theme like that could really backfire).
I'm trying to figure out how reintroducing wood elements would work and the big thing that is getting in my way "creatively" is the fact that while the old design seemed to work with an interplay between warm and cool colors (brown/green versus blue/white), the current palette seems to be almost *all* based on cool colors right down to the sky. In fact, the effect almost looks like what you see in the Fantasia 2000 animation for "Rhapsody in Blue" where *literally* every shade, even the yellow, has a touch of blue in it.
(Note: this might not be much of an issue from INSIDE the gazebo where you aren't seeing the sky...it's more of a question from the outside.)
Thing is...at least personally, I'd hate to sacrifice that sky, and those cool colors are integral to the realism of the auroras. I also figure the rest of the playerbase would kill me if I seriously suggested having it be a nighttime map, which would allow the auroras but also allow fire or artificial lighting to be used to introduce warmer hues to play the wooden elements off of. That's nice as an environment to look at but I think it would make anyone playing an event want to scream and wring the necks of whoever actually let that into production.
Maybe this isn't an issue and the shade of brown you guys used last year will still work and not do outrageous things in the lighting or anything. Which makes things a LOT easier of course.
But if it does become jarring or dull or something unwanted, I figure one of two things happens: the shade gets darker, or it gets more weathered (toning down the warmth somewhat and also increasing the extent to which, on an outside view, its perceived color takes on the characteristics of the lighting in the environment).
I'm going to take a look at a custom taiga map I've had in the Foundry for a few years when I get off work and do some thinking about it. The iteration I have right now that will go public Someday (TM) is based off of more of a red lighting scheme (system primary is in the K's or beginning of the M's on the main sequence, so like Cardassia's primary redder than our Sun) but I may duplicate it and try pushing the lighting into something a bit closer to the Winter Wonderland to get some further ideas on merging the palettes. (Even with as little control as I have over Foundry assets as I have I could always dress random NPC's in clothes that have the colors being tested.)
So I guess that's not really a solution and any design choice is going to TRIBBLE someone off (just don't do that night map thing because that came out of a really evil corner of my mind ), but just recognizing some of the variables that might be involved if a change were to be made.

Rex (et al), I guarantee there will be environment work necessary for next year's WW anyway, there's no reason we can't also update some of the decor in the process. It's not a this or that kind of thing.

Oh and hot tubs/springs. Yeah, nothing like a good soak in an outdoor hot tub in the middle of December to let you know you're alive, just ask the Scandinavians.
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
Next thing you know, there's going to be a banya to go with that ushanka I'm requesting...I don't even want to know what kind of game mechanic that would go with... O_O

I'd hate for the lovely nature in the Winter Wonderland to get invaded by Christmas lights.
But the hot springs idea is good --> Swimwear usable in Winter Wonderland. Do it!

Bring back the old cabin thing, the new one is nice, it just feels cold and uninviting, the old one looked cosy against all the ice outside.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Not a good idea, his chair would miss him.
Well they wouldn't have to go everywhere, just near structures and probably the ice lake but not out in the outskirts.
