You don't deny being a developer apologist do you?
So what else is there to say. I know it, you know it, everyone else knows it.
You can don't do one single post that isn't 200 % aimed at kissing developer butt.
So, you work on your forum mod - don't forget the lipstick
And the rest, the non developer apologists, can then actually debate something legitimately.
It's nothing personal or anything, I am just saying being a developer apologist posting for forum moderator competely disqualifies you as having an opinon, just like asgrey etc
If you feel emotional about it, well then you misjudged the situation again, because as I said it's not personal.
It's just about sorting out developer apologists vs legitimate posters and as such you don't matter

Did you completely ignore my forum signature? That big pic below every post I make. Even if you wasn't there before the Tovan Khev issue was stomped down by the mods, it's hard to ignore that.
I tell it like it is. And if it isn't like that, please, tell me. If I'm saying something stupid, explain why it's stupid. I don't want to say stupid things.
it's because it's star trek, it attracted fans who were older adults with lives who were playing the game because it was star trek, looking at all the cool stuff and trying out ships and dabbling in all sorts of things like, just sort of whenever
a traditional mmo e-peen minmax gearscore grindfest environment couldn't be more off target when it comes to that playerbase
and you know what? they are pissed, and it's not a small group of customers
^ This and Shpoks' post have been the most helpful and encouraging so far. The rest of you seem to be quite content with arguing amongst yourselves, bashing the OP, and choking on your own smug sense of self importance. Grow up already.

You deem 2 posts to be to your standards and disregard others?
Good luck, OP, in whatever game you choose to play. Gaming is a hobby and you should be happy with your hobby. I tend to play a lot of different games just to alleviate the frustrations caused by any one game. For me variety is the spice of life. Find a bunch of games you like and then pop in and out as you need to save your sanity. Keep it fun!
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

This right here, is proof that the gaming world needs a full on forum based MMO game!
Who needs fancy graphics or quest lines? The forum would be the game. Earn EXP as you post threads and replies, gaining levels unlocks special abilities to enhance your posts - from the White Knight troll shield to the awesome Bitter Vet RAGE!!111 post!
Content comes in the form of PvP, but PvE content also exists for team based play. You and your friends can take on powerful NPC trolls who seek to cause disharmony in the forum. Do you have the Google-fact finding skills to take them on?
Seriously guys and gals, this idea has potential!
Anyway, apologies OP...got a bit carried away...
I Quit thread aside, it's good you decided STO is not for you - and plan to just leave instead of hanging around criticising everyone and anyone for how terrible everything is.
STO will not change, better to accept that and move on.
Thanks for all the replies, both constructive and encouraging or ummm 'miscellaneous'. I'd also like to classify my thread as more a 'debrief' than an 'I quit'. If customers just leave then the company doesn't learn anything, and writing a kind of open letter I figured at best would let me see if I was way off base with my opinions (being a bit of a noob) or at worst give someone somewhere in Dev world something to think about.
Elite MMO DPS races and gear epeen contests are fine, I was a WoW guild leader back in BC so I get it, but MMOs have to cater for the casual too. I was chalking up some amazing hours played per day here, but I didn't feel engaged either at a casual or hard core level by the end game.
Thanks for the well wishes, and a few game suggestions. I tend to be an all or nothing, one game at a time player so hopefully one of them grabs me.
Anyway, Mr Crusher to take me out of here. Warp 2.
1. The star trek brand;
2. It being a casual game for star trek fans - not gamers
3. the f2p model
Now of course you can't developer apologist your way into the destruction of 1. the star trek brand.
But you can definitely easily developer apologize your way into the ruin of 2. and 3.
And that's my problem with you, that being a developer apologist you are effectively the one responsible for ruining the game.
And I am going to keep bringing that up every time I see a developer apologist and I am going to explain it over and over until even littly timmy from Uzebekistan age 11 playing on 56k doesn't speak english, can explain in his own words how developer apologists are the no. 1 problem of the game.
No one expects the developers to be allowed permission to be honest - least of all an american company but developer apologists have a choice and a responsibility.
Your choice to sell out the game and sell out the community for forum moderator, personal integrity is a luxery you can't afford right, least of all since they don't pay you nothing as a forum mod
Since you want that forum mod you also chose to alienate yourself from what I'd call players, the community or everyone, where being a developer apologist you are disqualified from having an opinion and you for live for trying to ruin it for everyone to get a step out into nothingness.
Whatever the case the key is under the mat and the porch lights are always on. Come back when you feel like it.

Any time you would like to finally ADD something please feel free... You repeat yourself more than a Liberal.
I find it best to accept that STO is just another Perfect World MMO grind (dilithium)/gambling (lockboxes) machine with a Star Trek skin. I dabble with Cryptic's Neverwinter and it's pretty much the same game in another setting (albeit one more amenable to endless grinding).
Legacy of Romulus is the last expansion that made me feel like I was at all immersed in the Trek-verse along with a truly interesting new game mechanic (warbirds). Since then it's all pew pew with just enough story and character to give the illusion that you aren't just roaming the galaxy shooting anything that doesn't agree with you (Delta Rising does it better than the whole Solanae Sphere fiasco with its ridiculous cut scenes but still).
Granted STO is F2P so any biatching about the game is usually considered little more than fanboy whining but the whole F2P thing is the taste meant to get you addicted so that you start spending real money for ships and micro-transations so it's not as if the game is really free to play much beyond the tutorial (the EC cap or inventory expansion are a good first examples of required micro-transactions for any but the most casual of players). Cryptic/Perfect World asks for our money (as indirect as it may be) so it is not unreasonable to ask for a quality product in return.
Probably, Cryptic and Perfect World are unlikely to change anything since it seems they have found a business model that works for them (see above reference to Neverwinter) but it is increasingly feeling pointless to me since the only value STO has over other games is the Star Trek setting of which there is less and less (every time my Fed Captain saluted in a Delta Rising cut scene the Trekkie part of me cringed in horror). STO was a half-way decent space shooter but beyond the graphics and occasional cameos it really isn't Star Trek anymore so other than the sunk cost I'm finding it increasingly harder to justify the investment in time and money.
My only advice as a returning player...delete all your characters and approach the game again. Starting over instead of keeping the broken end game toons I had let me start a new story.
Currently, I am a Romulan who stole the constitution class original enterprise. I am seeing how far I can get leveling using the limited weapons slots and boff abilities. It's a nice challenge and you can re-enjoy the story content.

I think I can agree on that one. The longer you stay away from endgame the better you are likely off.

You learn through repetition, read my last post again how that feeds into developer apologism...
But deleting his toons sounds like just about the worst idea ever.
I mean it's pretty clear you like roleplaying and like to pretend your are inside the video game but just consider maybe not everyone feels like that...
My advice is stop playing. Don't convert dil, don't go in-game but if you do stay away from anything delta rising at the very least.
I have experienced this bug/nonbug before not in a DR mission but aiding the deferi.
I have said what this game needs is a decent enemy locator, you would think the scan would do it but that doesn't help at all.
the problem is the map you are in is not flat so basically if you are in the upper level of the map and the enemy is in the lower level of the map you could basically almost fly right over them and not even see each other.
they need to add the enemy locations to the mini map to show their approximate location at any time and whether they are above you or below you, even to be visible when you are as far from each other as you can get, ideally this would be activated by the scan function so it only comes into play when you have lost your targets.
its very frustrating when you are trying to find that last enemy and no matter where you go the map remains totally blank.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
This is an MMO, not just a Star Trek game. If they're pissed because they have to actually think a little bit more for each mission, so be it.
Ever hear of Star Wars: Galaxies? The same sh** is happening here that happened in SWG at the time of the CU and NGE. The reason I quit SW:TOR after 2 years was because of the never ending grind to better gear. In Galaxies my Gear was Top notch for the last 3 years of the game. The TCG was 20 times the cash store the Zen Store is and all it did was pretty much give vehicles, ships and house decorations. You don't need a never ending gear chase to make the game good.
SWG was a Star Wars Game First and MMO second just like this game is Star Trek first and an MMO second. Not the other way around. I never would have played these games if it wasn't Star Trek or Star Wars as I am sure thousands of others. The problem is as was with SWG is that the people in charge do not see it this way. They think that just because they have a Triple A IP they can do what ever and make a boatload of money.
Had these games been handled properly, they would blow the train wreck of all MMOs (WoW) out of the water. IMHO, the reason MMOs have more or less stunk it up in the last 5 years is because they model it after WoW "Because it's the most Popular" MMO out there and if we do it we'll be as popular as WoW.

I'd advise people to do in a game what they want, not what some emotionally damaged person tells them.
