It's been a short ride and I would've loved to stay on but this ride is broken and nobody seems interested in fixing it.

I started playing just before DR hit and was having an absolute blast, whoever does the story line stuff is amazing. Thanks for the new Trek stuff, even if it's all non-canon it made me feel good again. As I levelled a couple of characters to 50 I became engrossed in the Episodes and building up new ships and meeting new Bridge Officers to drag along on away missions.

Then DR Hit.

Suddenly the missions have become a DPS grind (So many story-less patrol missions), then enemies are boring Pinatas 90% of the time until they fire some giant doom gun and then my space bar finger ends up with RSI from all the firing of weapons.

I try and do some queues to get better gear, research all the 'dungeons' just like I did back in the WoW days and then 2 mintues in for no reason I can fathom up pops a fail message. Ok, more research, make sure I'm not being a noob and spoiling it for everyone... nope, next STF fails even faster.

Every play session becomes a DOFFing grind mixed in with upgrading gear (grind) and running out of refined dilithium. Then do a couple of normal queues that offer no gear or 'currency' to buy more.

Finally the straw that broke me. Doing a Delta episode patrol. Defeat 4/5 waves including stupid Artillery ships that are made of some insane invulnerability material, then... nothing. No 5th wave. Fly around the whole map. nothing. This was at least 30 minutes of menial button mashing that I have to do again to progress because my progress is wiped when I leave the system to reset thanks to a stupid bug. No thanks.

It's been fun but sorry guys, you killed your own game (for me at least). I wish I was playing a couple of years ago but for me it's been a 1 month sub (cancelled) and that's it. At least my love for MMOs is back, time to find something else.

Hope you're all having more fun than me. Live long and prosper, and hopefully see you all in the next Trek franchise online. The community here has been overwhelmingly good, although a bit quiet in game.

So long and thanks for all the fish. And next star trek franchise. You're gonna be waiting a loooong time for that one.

Yeah, I used to play the Star Trek CCG and thought there'd be a remake once the company went bust but alas, no Trek CCG. This game probably IS as good as it's going to get, but I can dream of a bright future of a Trek game with 3d flight models and no 'drag' in space. Of boldly going where no man has gone before and not just waiting for a mission to finish so I can start another one, of random encounters that evoke an episode of TNG, trying to figure out who or what it is I'm dealing with.

    A man can dream.

sounds like someone got pwned by an NPC.

the only thing worth replying to is calling doff missions a "grind"

pressing a button is a grind?

Getting the DoFF XP to 100,000 in each school isn't a grind???
    Chris Robert's on SC:
"You don't have to do something again and again and again repetitive that doesn't have much challange, that's just a general good gameplay thing."

Like I said, had a ball for a while but the flaws are very noticeable and frustrating.

Owned by an NPC? Only in so much as the NPC never showed up and I had to repeat the whole mission. You'd think if an 'ambush' doesn't bother showing up you just keep going about your business.

By 'grind' I mean flying around sectors to go to the various exploration hubs, getting the best missions you can. It's not a 'work' grind but a huge time sink. Some people seem to really get into the Doff system, but I found it takes over from the game. Ditto the equipment upgrade treadmill.

Too much in this game screams freemium money sink, and I'm sure the whales will keep things going for a while, but go and look at the STF queues, the doomsayers (of which I'm not a member due to ignorance) may just have a point.

Well, it's a good time to be looking for sth. else at the moment, quite a lot of stuff going on:

    - Elite: Dangerous is about to be released soon (December I think)
    - SW:ToR is having a new expansion at the beginning of December
    - EVE is having a new expansion (also December I believe) that will bring some radical changes, very positive ones in my book
    - ArcheAge, TRION's new sandbox MMO has just released and it's free to try
    - Drangon Age: Inquisition, BioWare's new sandbox MMO has just released
    - WoW also launched a huge expansion just a week ago and in the majority of reviews it's called "one of the best expansions of the game".

...amongst others. These are just some that I keep closer track of. Maybe one of them will get your attention and bring back the fun in your gameplay.

Do come and check on STO every now and then, since you obviously enjoy Star Trek. Some silly fools like myself still hold hopes that things could be changed for the better. :o It's F2P anyway, so it won't cost anything to check and see if maybe things have improved.

Well you can blame yourself for that mess.

You and everyone else who played it, bought into it and gave them money for DR.

It could have been great but you people sold us all out.

I have a handful of items I didn't have room for up on the exchange and that's it.

I don't convert dil, I don't level anyone up with doffing, I play zero queues to send the clear message that DR is an insult and it's a re-roll or they can count me out

In reply to this and the OP....grind implies that somehow you are required to do this.

What you call grinding I call playing the game.

This kind of playstyle was the problem before DR. The reason for so many frustrated people in pugs. Now that the goals that were optional before are now required and people actually have to pay attention to them now... they quit instead.

I'll never understand that way of thinking.

A lot of players have. I can introduce you to some if you doubt it to the point of claiming I'm making it up. Which is what you just done.

The problem is with a lot of players wanting to complete optionals, but most having no way of getting any teams together outside of pugs, as most players in the pugs seemed only interested in killing things without regard to optionals.

i don't mind the optionals myself, just wish some of them didn't eat away weeks of pugs when the one person lets go the wrong Bajoran or does not repulser beam a Rescue mob :S lol

it's because it's star trek, it attracted fans who were older adults with lives who were playing the game because it was star trek, looking at all the cool stuff and trying out ships and dabbling in all sorts of things like, just sort of whenever

a traditional mmo e-peen minmax gearscore grindfest environment couldn't be more off target when it comes to that playerbase

and you know what? they are pissed, and it's not a small group of customers

This is an MMO, not just a Star Trek game. If they're pissed because they have to actually think a little bit more for each mission, so be it.

No. I slap together some DOff missions between Eps and STOs. What happens will happen.

    I didn't claim anything

I said it directly to your face.

Failing optionals has nothing to do the OPs posts and had nothing to do with DR either.

DR was the acknolwedgement that people don't want to buy fake star trek ships, SO, something had to be added to give those ships an incentive to get bought.

What better way to give the fake star trek ships a higher level and block every last single animation from the expansion to the fake star trek ships.

Then someone got the idea to simply copy-paste stats and call them "upgraded" which spawned crafting and upgrading which even gecko has admitted qualifies as "content light" ESPECIALLY compared to LoR where you were given 8 ships - for FREE.

DR was not about difficulty, it wasn't about optionals or giving the players want they wanted.

It was strictly about finding a way to make you buy fake star trek ships AND try to make you keep grinding without adding content - both of which I'd say, failed royally

Uh... the entirety of Star Trek is 'fake'. You know. Fantasy. None of it is real. The Enterprise is as fictional as the Avenger is.

Your last claim is patently wrong.

Developer apologists are like fox news

It's not so much anyone realistically thinks a lot of people will take them seriously, it's more we don't want any 1 single person to not be able to spot them.

So ideally in the end it's just going to be down to 1 or 2 of them working on their forum moderator while the community can then get into an actual constructive debate about the game

I do love when people type out words without saying anything.

In this disjointed, and rather unexplained, scenario of yours are you CNN?

I'll be HBO, and show those that pay for it the bits they want.
