Actually cryptic failed to communicate with the playerbase exactly how DR will change. Trendy and Smirk provided superficial data to feed oooooooooooh shinies trolls.
Sarcasmdetector used real numbers and computed the kind of performance is required to complete the new advanced/elite queues. Although that thread of his made me hate cryptic a little bit more.
Odd, as I can point you to two Podcasts where it was specifically stated that to do an Elite queue in DR will necessitate players having the new high-end gear and at least T5U ships.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Excellent, old elites were easy mode in greens and fresh 50. Love a real challenge.
That's not a challenge. That's just opening the wallet and grinding (or opening the wallet part II) to have the best stuff.
In a few weeks, or months, when some people will have upgraded gear and T6 ships, I'm pretty sure they'll do elite like we did ISE in the past. It's not skill related. It never was, just look at the scimitard doing well over 30K dps by any monkeys able to set up a macro and smash spacebar.
Unless they buffed it again before launch, 10 times harder seems on the high end.
On time it's about 10 times longer to complete. The tac cube is also 10 times more durable I would say. Overall it's hard to quantify.
For me I see these now more like a "raid" to do once in a while rather than a cash cow, and I wonder if that's the intent?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
I don't mind a little challenge but c'mon this make it looks like the federation, the klingons and the romulans cant build a proper ship. Here i am in my odyssey wih 100k hp, ooh look a Tholian Mesh Weaver near the Crystaline entity advanced, this can't be too difficult ship, oh wait it has 700k hp
How is that possible? what tech are they using? i want some of that too. a mere frigate got 7 times more hp than a tac. cruiser - yeah right.
OP said "advanced". it's um... a bit more beefed than we thought it'd be.
Why? Because no one was ever one-shot by a Borg in an ESTF pre-DR?

In my opinion this is a good thing. 60-75% of people that were doing elite stfs before had no purpose there. They either lacked the gear or the skill ir both. They should of been doing normal. And the fact they weren't was what was preventing the devs from buffing the difficulty before now. The elite should always of been equal to the undine ques. From your description the stfs now sound like they are in a better place. I cant wait to test the new elite, just thinking of that challenge makes me drool.
This. If that makes me an evil elitist, so the F be it (to quote my favorite show Deadwood)

again no one is doing elite yet. we're talking about advanced.

Sounds like they overdid it then (can't be sure till I can log on and actually play later). Difficulties should be
Normal: Wheeeeeeeee what does this button do?
Advanced: Puggable so long as everyone knows what they're doing
Elite: Coordinated team of lockbox ships and top end gear tuned specifically to that mission so you can go brag afterwards.
If Advanced is messing up people with ships over 8k or so, then Cryptic overdid it. Leave Elite to the epeen DPSers, but there needs to be a middle ground.
The target for advanced is 15k each. Which most people will need to clean their builds even with captain specializations and ship traits.
Old Elite was renamed Advance, new Elite is harder than Old Elite.
Should the Public Elite Channel temporary be renamed Public Advance Channel until they get back to an Elite level? ^^
"Please, Captain, not in front of the Klingons." Spock to Kirk, as Kirk is about to hug him.
Star Trek V: "The Final Frontier"
I like the idea of hard Elite Modes. Suddenly all of the people who looked down on the Healers and the Debuffers as useless find that their precious FaW icon to be less than an I-Win Button.
In short, they made many bald-faced lies about how they would change difficulty levels. Everyone is shafted in order to milk the customer base dry for money. No more nickle-and-dime tactics, you pay for T6 and all 14 gear or you don't play, period. That's the new Cryptic.

Only if you want to. I like my 5k science Norgh. Its good enough for NWS, but no longer enough for anything but Normal? Thats insulting. People shouldn't have to go kneel at the altar of DPS to play the game.
I tried ISE today on Advanced with one of my better builds (non-upgraded Vesta with Mk XII Fleet Elite Phasers) this afternoon. My hull never dropped below 80% but in terms of damage, the team failed the optional on time. It seems like the Borg have received a significant resistance to damage. With the reduced DL, no loot, and significantly more time needed to complete these. I am turned off of PvE queued events.

I've been paying attention to you saying these would all be doable in T5 mirror
As I do not even own a Mirror ship I would never say any such thing. But I will simply point out that all of these things can be done on Regular mode in T4 ships - as I have done it on Tribble. If you are not skilled enough for Advanced or Elite then do it on Regular until you are skilled enough.

And Al Rivera spewing his bull**** of "nothing you have now will be obsolete in DR." :P
I am certain I can find several of your posts where you have talked about doing the new Content on Tribble with existing T5 ships and how Upgrading was not a necessity.

I think the OP is referring to advanced difficulty which was the old elite that we pretty much steamrolled through, not the new Elite level. I could be wrong. Advanced should not be significantly harder than the old elite content it's supposed to represent.

If you make no significant changes, just some loot and mission gear replacements to have some Mk 13s, then I bet by the time you're 55 and have a couple captain specializations and ship traits, etc you'll be closer to 8k. Which will be plenty for normal and half way to advanced.
Remember, today you're the newly level 45 pugger in a ship with random dropped gear doing a queue for the first time.
Yes, please do find one where I said I completed the NEW Elite content with my existing ship/gear. Good luck
You should be able to find some of my posts where I said that while content is doable with existing gear, the amount of time/effort involved for nerfed rewards makes it pointless. Clearly the intent is to obsolete existing stuff so you buy new stuff.
But have at it if you like.
And I will simply point out that I never said someone could do Elite queues with a T5 ship either; yet that is what ursusmorologus insinuated in his post to me. I have said nothing on this forum that you have not also said.
