A few people, yeah. Cryptic inherited all of Perpetual's old game assets when they got the licence. I guess they kept them around as inspiration.

Why pay for a new ship design when you can have a 'new to us' ship design? ;)

Personally, I thing the ring design is stupid looking. Waste of space. More Star Wars than Star Trek, imo.

You can argue that maybe it is aeshteticaly more SW than ST, but ... Waste of Spac is certainly something that happens in Star Trek a lot. D'Deridex Warbirds with their weird dual wings and the giant hole i nthe middle?
Federation ships with the seperated saucer, engineering and nacelles? Even if you can reason that the nacelles produce harmful radiation and thus need to be put at distance from the living areas, why the extra engineering section?

The Vengence from JJ trek had a similar space in the saucer.

Personally I think the sci ship is the best looking of the lot - I just HATE the skins.

    Those ships....hidious.

    Those prices...laughable.

PWE's intention, make the Fed ships so butt-ugly they will force us into the other factions.

I'm late to the party here, but the reason for the "waste of space" in the center of the D'Deridex is explained in detail here if anyone is interested: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/D%27deridex_class_model

The fed Intel ships look quite good, as long as you don't think of them as fed ships.

While the John Eaves concept has slight similarities, it was not used as inspiration.

And yes, you can use your other ship hull materials on the intel ships!

I believe you can also fill the gaps in the ring, correct?
You're right. The work here is very important.

You sure can. The intel ships share a very similar design language so we transplated all of the nacelles from each ship onto the other Fed intel ships, as well as added a few smaller customization options, like filling in the saucer ring, or covering the sensors.

Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Well I at least think you guys did a good job on these new ships.

This ships design has grown on me. I'm going to change my sci toons name to Homer and name the ship USS Donut Sprinkles.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

jk rowlings had supposedly never heard of the book 'larry potter and his best friend lily" or the author's other book 'the legend of rah and the muggles.' that's what a court said, anyway, even though larry potter looks exactly like harry.

    J. K. Rowling had never heard of Neal Gaiman's "Books of Magic."
And when he was asked about it, he said that he could easily believe it.

Considering that Cryptic owns the Eaves art, and could use it in any way they want to without paying him or giving him credit, what possible motivation could they possibly have for lying about it?

Precisely. If we used it as inspiration, I would say we did. No reason not to.

It could simply be subconscious retention. You see something years ago and then forget you saw it, but your subconscious keeps that information locked away. It then has an influence on things you create even though you are not aware of it.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Similarities happen in entertainment all the time. I am a screenwriter. My writing partner and I were developing an animated TV show for Hulu. Hulu loved our idea and was ready to sign the dotted line...until Netflix aired a commercial for a show that was extremely similar to our idea. The Hulu execs told us if the Netflix show didn't exist they would be making that show.

Can We Please Get Some Pieces From The Ships That They Were Designed From. For Example: The Phantom Having Defiant And Tempest Pieces. If You Did This You Might Get More Sales And You Could Say The Intel Ships Are The Most Customize able Ships In STO.

    - jk -

I'm loving the new ships - all of them. Bought the Operations pack, and can't wait to try out the new content. Not loving the dil costs for upgrades, for early completion of R&D, the lack of pricing information for upgrades...

Not at all... I just think it's naive to believe that everything that happens is random, and that a decision is not the underlying reason for everything that happens...

It may have been a person, or nature, Conscious or subconscious but a decision has always been made.

Of cause, you may be able to hear your own tinfoil hat... Can't speak to that.
