lol ya, if I was in charge of making those livestreams I would make the worst possible build just to drive the OCD kids insane hahahah.
I think he does it just like we klinks do, get them to rage in "zone" chat
I find it funny when people use the term "Dev" like this.
Dev = Developer = engineer, product development
Respectfully, our community managers are NOT "Devs". They are communications specialists. They do not design, build, code the product, e.g. Star Trek Online.
Now, perhaps Cryptic/PerfectWorld Entertainment has a specific H.R. role which defines Community Managers as "Developers". But in the industry, this simply isn't the standard use of the term "Dev".
Therefore, don't rag on our Community Managers about ship builds. After all, they aren't Developers.
Still, if you're showcasing a new ship, do a decent PvE build to show off its capabilities
It is annoying to see poor numbers, reminds me of nightmare stf's with pugs who keep blowing up
Look at it from another perspective. If they use a bad build and make the ship look nice, you can go and wonder how really good it can be with some attention to the build.

It goes even deeper than that. Just because you design something that doesn't mean you are capable of getting the best out of it. Lots of people design formidable cars, and then they shine in a driver's hands not the engineer, designer or whatever. That is perfectly normal and fine.
To be fair tho it was more of a show and tell than a true display of the ship's dps. I think a lot is being read into those parses.
I was Becky 14 in that last stf and the Guardian was able to absorb a lot of damage, I was watching it in game close up getting ready to throw heals at him and on top of that he had to focus on the live stream as well.
He also had to use the consoles that came with it as far as I know which I tend to drop in favour of my own build with most ships.
Tbh I'm like you tho and would have prefered a proper break down from the point of view of a proper gamer.

Didn't Smirk at one point say that he uses his work account for the livestreams and he doesn't have time to get better gear on said work account?
Heh, like someone already said, looking at some of these reactions I think if I were in Smirk's place I'd be very tempted to put together a troll boat built around doff-boosted Boarding Party 3 and the like. With access to any imaginable doff and console, I'd have the nastiest Aceton Field build around!
Bare min build on that live-stream of course default looks like Mark 12 very rare purple phaser beam array but some of it can replace of a few odd end weapons: To mean it had looked like Standard AP beam array Mark 11 Very Rare Purple, Ancient Omni-directional AP beam, that Klingon doomsday torpedo Mark 11 Very Rare Purple, Romulan Tractor Beam Mines and the New! Transphasic Cluster Torpedo Mark 13.
But this ship seems to be base on the Ambassador Retrofit object frame without extra console. But like with all Tier 6 ships the they can go KABOOM also. But I see his point with the basic build even with those odd end weapons the ship can be taken into the DR-Q and be used. Of course I would use my current build an it's stronger weapons payload.
Good 2 plus hours to watch. I wish he would prior cover the rest of the tier 6 in 2 plus hours on each Tier 6 ship, like the SCI Intel Vessel. OH well!
His DPS might suck but he can still "noclip" through walls.

Not relevant - look at the ship itself. you would spec a Guardian like a uni set to Sci ACR with added Grav Well, and ACRs can do ten, twenty times what Smirk did comfortably - For example, my ACR on a mostly VPvP set up (no doffs, no traits, but hadn't reduced gear) parsed 5k in a Fleet Alert last night, and it was only that low because A) my Fleet mate's Scim was annihilating everything before I got to shoot stuff, and I'm incompetent as a pilot and forgot traits and doffs...
Smirk was actively trying to be that bad. There is no other explanation.

Smirk ain't a dev. Are y'all so bored you need to whine about someone's dps numbers who is playing for FUN?

It is a peculiar phenomenon that we can imagine events that defy the laws of the universe.
Quite frankly, I find the slamming of Smirk a bit tasteless. This thread should not have existed.
