This reward is only available from the Elite setting. So the only way to get the Superior (and thus presumably "best") gear is to run Elite STFs.

While it says we'll receive a superior upgrade...it does not say this is the only place to get it.

I was afraid of this. Now we're gonna have players demanding everyone else be wearing nothing but ultra-purples and gold gear or else they'll be screamed at, called noobs, blamed for every single wipe, and likely kicked from the raid before it even begins. Which is a sick irony because like in WoW, the only way for a person to get a chance to obtain this ubbergear (or the needed marks/mats to obtain them) will be in Advanced STfs like this.

The more I hear about Delta, the more I'm hating it.
OR we could continue on as if nothing happened in the current Elite queues(Advanced queues in DR)

    *ahem*....

    there's your elite-only resource

I think we're reading this differently and unfortunately we won't be 100% sure before it actually hits holodeck.
What I'm reading there is that the 'elite' queues will have a chance to give you the VR upgrade kit that level 15 crafters can make or more likely that "accelerator" thingie which is in no way essential for the system and won't be limited to 'elite' queues as the only venue to obtain it.

The material reward is salvage for creating the experimental superior upgrade kits, which helps improve the quality more compared to other kits (superior, improved, and basic).

    yeah, what he said

and just for the record...accelerators will definitely not be limited to queued events, as one is given as a reward for one of the kobali adventure zone story missions

i expect a few other missions will give them as rewards as well, but they will be first completion only type rewards, of course

Yeah its very bad we finally get something worth called "elite". Though, most likely, those who know what to do will still be able to rock through it with mk xi blue gear.

So yeah, either gear up (and probable lose) or l2p. In the meantime here is some cheese to your whine.

Untrue misinformation. You can get the best gear with anything, and the accelerators are also akquire-able in different ways.

I felt like they were really doing things right with the battlezones and newer STFs.

Personally I would rather see them turn the borg STFs into battlezones wth tons of bosses/minibosses, triggered and/or events, and so on. I'd rather see stuff more like Guild Wars 2 world bosses and random events in battlezone form than more STF elitism

STO's not set up like Guild Wars 2 though. The closest we have to a single open world map is New Romulus. The Voth Battlezone and Defera are a close second, with Nukara trailing in last.

When will MMO devs get it through their heads: PUGs don't work well enough together to do elite content!?
Its bad enough 9 out of 10 PUGs cant do the new Undine space missions but add in an even harder mode?
Yea, i see the player base dropping even faster than it already is. Either PRO's will leave because they cant find competent groups, or the average player (Pugger) will leave because the content is too hard.

GG Cryptic/PWE, your well on your way to killing this game.

Battlezones -- or at least the sphere battle zones -- are really rough on many machines that otherwise are well within spec for the game. I haven't really touched on the more recent reps because I just can't play effectively in the sphere.

I've always felt STO's usage problem was more of an engine thing. it doesn't have the best graphics.

I still feel it was a step in the right direction. I would imagine something Breech with more people (10-20) being pretty fun

I have a second AMD rate processor, 6 gigs of DDR3, and a decent, but not super Nvidia video card and I get a little slow down but still well within functionality. Though on the other side of the coin I do have wicked fast internet so maybe that helps, but one thing to do is turn down particle effects, that usually helps a lot in situations like that.

I used to hate that gear score nonsense in WoW. I was one of the top geared holy paladins on the server at the time, and I still refused to answer that TRIBBLE.

I would rather keep lfg than deal with someone that would rely on a number to group with you or not. Just because someone had x number on their gs didn't mean they were geared correctly, or knew how to use their class.

I dont mind the new difficulty level, some people in this game are just super OP and need something that challenges them.

For me though, I am gonna have to stick with advanced for the sake of all the OP people doing elite lol, I dont grind often for rep space gear or fleet space gear, in fact I do the current elite with the set you get from "A step between the stars" and do completely fine. The only mk XII rep space gear piece i got is the reman shield array.

I just dont want the new advanced mode to be abandoned completely, would ruin the game for me since i do grind for the rep ground gear sets

God forbid we actually get a REQUESTED feature without someone shouting doom and gloom. Also..nothing to do with WOW..All games have people who will do that.

You are correct, even the smallest game will have the crowd that looks down it's nose at everyone else, and the saddest part is eventually the companies all fall to catering to them at some time or another. Often to the point of neglecting the rest of the player base, which isn't usually necessary. After a time and they lose half their players over it they usually learn the hard way and set things right again and usually get some of those lost players back, but not all. I don't see this change as being that drastic, in part because of the short nature of the content it's tied to. My biggest concerns are..

1 Trolls ruining games and if victims of those trolls will still at least get their daily mark bonuses.
    2. The length of cooldowns on "failures" Cryptic really doesn't want trolls keeping the "elitists" from their content.. it will burn them in the TRIBBLE.

It invaded neverwinter, both the gear scores and tiered rewards based on who does the most damage with a display showing exact hit points dealt by everyone in the queued event. And it has contributed to severe elitism. Luckily the devs there have created mechanics where gear score is not a true indicator of character ability, so that helps a bit.

I pray it never hits champs or sto.

Ok here's the thing. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about elitist players and veterans of the game. Just an FYI I have played STO:) for over 4 years now. So let me tell you all a story that should sum it all up. 4 years ago I was no where near the player I am now I had garbage gear (best I had was mk 10 blues and a paratrinic shield array and I could barely do STFs. How did it all change? I met a guy named Smoketh who even at that time was ungodly powerful who helped me run thru a few STFs and I added him as a friend (after all who doesn't like powerful friends who will carry u thru missions) and after a few weeks he invited me to the fleet he was in. When I joined I was probably 1 of the weakest members in the fleet running about 2.2k DPS where they all had 4 and 5k ( this was a lot in Old STO ) and they loved to PVP so I started joining them. Let me just say I became a literal punching bag I was killed more times than I can count BUT I didn't get discouraged I asked questions and learned and after a month I could survive a full minute in a firefight after 2 months about 3 mins and was dealing dmg after 3 months and getting better gear/experience/and build advice I started holding my own against them. After that the fleet broke up and I joined a new fleet and about 2 years ago I met my eternal STO rival Jameson and let me tell you we did 1 on 1 PVP 1-4 times a day. Battling him was always a challenge cause we were more or less equals (different ships and careers but equally skilled) and we came up with new gear combos, skillsets, and tactics and our power soared to new heights. Now when we pvp its a matter of who has what skills when and if we are in the right position to use them. Now i can walk thru any STF with no issues my fleet refuses to PVP me and i spend my time teachong mew players the ropes(not all vets do this btw). Most of the OP players could tell you a similar story we all acquired our power by playing and learning you can get it too join a fleet find friends and get someone to mentor you and you can become just as OPed. Whining and complaining gets you no where granted some vets do get impatient but every one of them were weak once just like i was. THE END.

Gear and tactics are however fully trumped by intent, if someone goes in intent on ruining a game for their own amusement, having the 4 greatest tactical and best geared players in the game (whoever they may be) won't mean a hill of gagh.

4 greatest tacs huh ...you tac monkeys kill me with this till you discover how hard the content is and then scream wheres the eng in a cruiser ??? lol its coming.........(rise of the eng) i can here it now get it off meeeee im dyinggggggg

I can only see this as a good thing.

Casual players will gravitate to the Normal queues and PUGing will be okay. Bring what you want, because the cranky overachievers will be in the Advanced and Elite queues.

Gamers will want to do the Advanced queues. But now that you can't fail those side-objectives and win, people are going to have to get more serious about gearing up for them and learning how to do them right. (Including me.) This is probably where most of the teeth-gnashing will happen, but won't be a lot different from right now.

The hardcore people will be shooting for Elite once they hit 60, and they're more likely to do whatever it takes to get the best gear and builds anyway. PUG's probably need not apply. Hopefully it's difficult enough to discourage the people who think they can jump right in to a queue without a clue or a team. Elite rewards will encourage these guys to move up and out from the Advanced queues as soon as they can.

Like it or not, some gamers need a higher challenge level and STO needs to engage those people. Just because I have no burning need to play at that level doesn't mean other people can't. As long as the rewards at each level are fair, people should accept it and play at the level they're willing to strive for. Don't like the limited rewards? Take it to the next level.

this is totally correct, hard core players have been screaming out for a harder challenge for ages, players like myself who prefer an easier challenge are happy to take the lower level and just have some fun blasting a few baddies, I mostly play the standard mode in stfs and such cos I know im not such a hot player and only ever play elite with fleet mates who know me and are happy to carry me through and take up the slack.
its only right for an mmo game to cater to all types and I have no problem with that, it doesn't take long for a player to work out what their level of play is and if that player insists on going for the higher level knowing they are not up to the challenge they deserve all they get.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I meant tactical in the way of knowing how to do their jobs, not the career.. guess that could use a little rewording. lol

It's no one's business what anyone else has on their ship or person. That kind of attitude is what has spawned so many problems for the gaming community over the years. People need to mind their own.
