I'm still waiting for a fix for this + the issue of not having the ability to see my own ship fire/get hit. Unplayable for me.
Then, my friend im afraid you are going to wait.. for eternity... i will give you and advise: people give a fxxx about this terrible bug, so im afraid cryptic will never fix it. People keep asking for new content, but they dont give a fxxx about this. People keep buying lfts, and monthly subs, and spending a lot of zen in the c-store, but they dont give a fuxxxx about this. So, as yo will understand, cryptic will never do anything about it. Its sad, i know, but it is what it is. Get used to it. Its and advise. Of course, if this is not fixed in the next few months, i will defniitely stop playing STO, because i am a normal-reasonable person, but it is my case. I dunno if the rest of people who plays STO is reasonable enough to do that. Sometime si think they are just aliens lol.
i7860 Quad ..... HD 6870....... 16g of ram.. blah blah blah...
Always run on highest settings but lag in ESD and STF slideshows started to drive me insane and I was ready to pull the plug on STO until further notice!
ESD, going to visit the good ole Admiral or the exchange was just like watching claymation on slow mo..
I started going through the sliders one tick a ta time until it started to lag again and I found the culprit for me!
I can still run all sliders on High... MSAA is 4x and my lag is gone.. all I had to do was go under graphics tab and change lighting quality and shadows to Low... game looks horrid like this to me but no more lag...
These settings are screwed at least for my system.. please please please fix your coding so I may enjoy shadowing and lighting quality once again
At least I can go to the exchange or ops and have smooth gameplay though... only tried Starbase 24 as a test and my beams were showing again and the slideshow was gone... but I missed the bulk of the battle so not too sure on that one yet...
There's been a lot of various settings that appear to work for different people. It seems to depend a lot on what the individual PC configuration is.
There's little we can do about it except to try and mitigate as you have been doing. This is a Cryptic issue and the ball is firmly in their court. There is just simply too many people with FPS/graphics problems for it to be anything but.
If you've come to the forums to complain about the AFK system, it's known to be bugged at the moment.
I have to say that most of what I've seen of season 9 so far is good (especially saving power tray setup when switching ships), with the obvious exceptions of losing rep traits that I had earned and the graphics problems.
Before season 9 I always played with all graphics/cpu settings onmax with no problem, but now with maxed settings my PC appears to be struggling. I've messed around with the graphics settings but fps are causing things like movement to be a bit jecky in ESD and in busy space fleet actions (e.g. Starbase 24). Elite STFs that I've tried seem fine but fleet actions with a lot of ships on screen causes terrible lag.
I like the graphics revamp, the effects look even cooler than before, but something is causing lag and I don't believe it is my quadcore CPU or my AMD card.
Is anyone else getting the same effect with max settings in S9? If so did you find a setting in particular that is causing it? I thought it was Dx11, but it does the same on Dx9 as well.
HD 7750 + Athlon x4 740 = usually not a bad combo.
However, in sto, fps varies from about 5! fps to 58, depending on surroundings/maps/number of players. Resolution change (from 1920*1080 to 1280*720), graphics settings change (using sliders of max, medium, low) have negligible effect on the low fps status.

Actually, the only options that affects performance in high-end computers (being able to notice a diference) are the dynamic lighting switch and the quality of the fx. Any other option in a mid-high end computer will not make almost any difference at all. Again, this is a problem of the game engine, and with mid-high end computers we should be able to run this game at maximum settings everywhere without any problem at all. Reminder -> this game is almost 5 years old now. If i cant run it at maximum settings everywhere and having more than enough performance without overheating my videocard or having fps drops in some zones, its obvious that something is really wrong with the game engine.
The ball is in cryptic's court, but i dont think they are going to move it... because they are not going to invest money in a game engine revamp. You know, a lot of people are still playing, and making a lot of purchases so, honestly , dont hold your breath , because the game servers will be closed for other reasons far before cryptic decides to make something about this.. lol. And it is a shame, because STO with a renewed engine will be amazing.

I'm afraid that's not always the case. Through the various combinations tried by people, it is just simply not what happens.
On a side note, I ran my old 6850 crossfire setup, damn, that was painfully slow.

You seem to missed the entire post. I will explain again. There is a problem with the game engine, that makes any computer to struggle even if it is a high-end computer. It doesnt matter what options you change in the graphics tab, because it has nothing to do with your computer performance, but with the game engine optimization. So, maybe some people can change some options gaining maybe 0,00001 % more performance. But the basics of the problem remain the same, it doesnt matter what options you change, the fps issues will still be there. In any other game you can change graphic options to the point that there are not more fps lag issues, that is not the case talking about STO.
So, again, yes. The only options that successfully increases the performance in high-end systems are dynamic lightning and fx quality and im talking about general play, not the famous laggy zones. Any other option will give you maybe 0,00001 % more performance, but of course, that will do nothing to your fps at all xD. This can be saw for example in the undine battlezone. If you deactivate dynamic lighitning and you change the effects quality to medium, for example, you will notice a really high increase of the performance, of course still there will be issues, but at least it is playable. If you dont deactivate dynamic lightning and the graphics quality fx, and instead you change anything else, you will not be able to play anyways due to the terrible fps lag.
So again, it is not a case of "combinations". I dont know if you trying to "excuse" cryptic and their poor work on the game engine, or what. Im really lost here. The game engine is really badly optimized and EVERYBODY knows that, it doesnt matter if you try 200 graphic options combinations, you will never get a stable performance in this game, because it is impossible no matter what you do.

You seemed to have missed my post, let me do it again without regurgitating the same information ad nauseam. I know all about the problems with the engine etc...I've commented on it many times. It's in the thread if you care to have a look and read things.
There is reports in this thread and others along with zone chat, about people who have changed their settings and managed to restore FPS. This could be dynamic lighting, fx quality, shadows, whatever along with the other options.
So again, no, dynamic lighting and fx quality, are not the only options to increase high end performance.
Don't deactivate dynamic lighting and fx quality or you'll suffer FPS? No, again, you are wrong. I wasn't sure, but I checked my settings and I have these on at the moment. Game is ok at the moment. It would appear therefore that there is permutations/combinations that do work for people. I imagine turning these off would help even more, but right now, there is no need to.
So I'm at a loss for what your post is really about to be honest. I've certainly been open enough myself that Cryptic ideally need to work on the engine.
You are again wrong about you will never get stable performance. How do you account for those who've reported no issues since the botched S9 launch when it hit for a lot more people? Whether you acknowledge it or not, the game is running fine and has been for a lot of people.
If you've come to the forums to complain about the AFK system, it's known to be bugged at the moment.
I have a fairly good grasp of graphics and such things. I know that here I've managed to get my game running at 30+FPS again pretty much all the time. It does dip on ESD and oddly Nukara for some reason.
All I know is I have fx and lighting both high and my game performance is fine.
On a side note, seen a lot of people with Prometheus in the name lately. Maybe with the focus on Voyager content soon we'll get a Prometheus revamp.

Running the game at 30 fps in regular zones is not the problem. The problem is, for a start, this game should be running at 60+ fps without even sweet on a high-end computer, second the big problems are located in specific zones, as we said, ESD, undine battlezone, voth battlezone, CE, some fleet alerts, etc.
In some of these zones, two things can happen. A) instead of lower fps performance, you will see no weapon graphics at all, but your fps will be more or less decent. you will see no weapon graphics at all and the fps performance will be terrible.
Switching dynamic lightning to off and lowering the quality of the fx will help a lot in case B if you using a high-end computer. If you are not using a high-end computer its probably that it will not matter what options you deactivate..
So again, no, dynamic lighting and fx quality, are not the only options to increase high end performance.
In this game, they are. As i said millions of times, its a question of bad optimization and some options are useless when you use em to increase the performance. As i said, again, millions of times, and checked by a lot of users, ONLY deactivating dynamic lightning and the quality of the fx seem to actually work to increase the fps rate. NOTE that we are talking about high-end computers, if you tell me your computer is not good enough, i will tell you that the problem is a balance between the bad optimization of the engine and the lmited power of your computer. In this only case, of course other options will help, but that is common sense. As i said, the whole focus of this thread is about bad performance even in high-end computers, and this is the main matter of the problem.
My point, is policestate76 likes to start great debates when not needed, likes to discredit those who are trying to help the devs, makes out he is not flaming or trolling anyone when he clearly is, hes gotten me fired up a few times now but i have woken up to his ways now.
He is always right, everyone else is always wrong. And he even takes things out of context just like he did with you, hes done the exact same thing to me countless of times.
I do really hope they ban him because he needs to be.
I've just read the whole thread, and it appears to have gone off topic a couple of times. But this post 378 I think it was, kind of stood out for me when I read the linked threads.
I think part of the issue is policestate76's first language is clearly not English. This will be where a lot of the issues come up, but also I think to a certain extent he has been looking for food as it were. I agree with craig76 on the trolling point. Apart from anything, he actually seems to talk a lot of sense when he's been able to.
There appears to be inefficiencies and limitations of the current game engine, I'm running a 6-core 12-thread 4930K with 2xGTX770 4GB, the GPU utilisation only hovers around 40% and the CPU cores at about 20%, but framerates vary considerably between 10-60 fps. Don't have this issue with other games.

Spot on, but at times the game is fine for other people.
@NX I think you might be right, I don't want to be feeding more. I just like the idea of benefit of the doubt.
If you've come to the forums to complain about the AFK system, it's known to be bugged at the moment.
I have a powerful PC which has no problems at all playing far more graphically intense games however for the past three weeks my framerate has been atrocious.
I originally had a framerate of around 12-20 and this is with every graphics setting turned off, I have managed to boost it to 30 by removing most non-essential elements of the UI. Unfortunately as soon as I get into missions any engagement knocks my framerate back down to sub 10.

You are the one (and other fellows) that keeps asking and posting the same over and over again, when all the questions are already answered. You guys keep filling this thread with the same questions over and over again and i am the one whos trolling??? seriously, you guys need to think on it. Everybody knows everything they want to know about these issues, but some of you keep posting and asking again the same thing over and over again. If that is not trolling, then what it is? I just try to explain everytime in other way to see if people finally understand it, but i see its useless lol. I guess everybody has its limits of patience. So, people keep posting their specs of their computers, and people keep posting what they tried to solve the problem, without success of course, why?? because what it is said in all the other thousands of pages of the thread. And its curious, you prometheus and the other guy are the only ones who acuse me of being a troll, i suposee you dont even know what that word means??. I guess some kids will be always kids, no matter what. Anyways, i decided to just avoid any post on the graphical bug section for good, since i only see trolls and kids everywhere. I did it once due to the other guy, but now i will definitely stop trying to make things clear for anyone who enters in this thread.
P.D.: Not only that, you quoted someone that for unknonw reasons had real hate for me since the day 1, you couldnt quote someone else?? that guy harrased me since the day 1 i tried to explain things to him, he will never listen, and you are precisely the other guy who always step at his side doing the same thing. If i were a community moderator, both of you will be banned for a long time. But i cant believe i am the bad guy in the story, seriously.
You are free to goo to misslead other players and tell em what you want em to read. The thread is all yours, prometheus. Good luck.

Okay policestate76, there is nothing wrong with people discussing things. And I notice you have a predisposition for insulting people. Calling people kids and trolls instantly because they don't agree with you. I'm afraid that is not very mature.
Contributions are always appreciated, but you have to understand that people won't agree with you all the time. If they don't, live with it. Please.
As to the origins of the problems between you and craig76, no idea, nothing to do with me. All I could go with was what was in the various linked threads and on top of that the warning you both got. It's just on balance his approach has been more mature.
It would be a sad state of affairs if you were ever to be a mod. On appearances, you don't have the right mind set. You can't handle criticism for starters. You're not necessarily the bad guy, you've just been proven to be mistaken.
I have never misled, nor do I have any care to. I make no claim on this thread, it's a community after all. We'll have different opinions, and we all have to live with that. What works for you, may not work for others etc. Just recognise that.
Edit: Also note you have a habit of editing your posts a lot....I'm guessing to try and change your posts after people have replied to you.
Surprisingly, my graphic settings are maxed out and playing magnificently.
Here are my relevant specs:
HP DL140 G2 (1U server)
2x 3.6GHz Xeon processors
16GB RAM (PC2-3200)
300Mbps WiFi adapter
1GB AMD ATI Radeon HD 6450 video card
Diamond Multimedia Sound Tube XSTU21 2-Channel USB 2.0
I don't think the VGA card is recommended, but strangely it plays flawlessly. Is the CPU doing some or most of the video processing? As the VGA card was only recommended for 2D use on one hardware site.

You may have the resolution turned down. That, or the resolution scale.
Thanks for the reply Captain Oblivous, it's 1600x900.
That's fairly low, but it should be reasonably clear if you have the resolution scale turned up to 1 and the resolution matches the native resolution of your monitor.
My guess is you have the resolution scale set below 1. If that is set to below 1, you will end up with a good frame rate on almost anything but at the cost of a mushy washed out mess of a display.
I'm actually dreading how much worse this - STILL - unresolved issue is going be with DR. Unless they fix the terrible draw distance issues they've created, most of the new content is going to end up like ESD and be unplayable.
something has %100 changed on the graphics on this game with the latest patches.
I used to play this on my laptop 1600x900 on Mediaum CPU and Medium GPU graphics, I logged in after some recent patches and it was jerky as hell, and I can only play now on low / low graphics.
Something has upped the graphics load on this game
It didn't start in S9. It just got a whole lot worse as it began to affect more people. Apart from a tacit recognition here and there, there's not been much said.
If you've come to the forums to complain about the AFK system, it's known to be bugged at the moment.
lol every season the game utilizes more GPU/CPU. Its quite interesting as its all wrapped around the same game engine. I wonder how long till the game literally becomes unplayable.

This will be where a lot of the issues come up, but also I think to a certain extent he has been looking for food as it were. I agree with craig76 on the trolling point. Apart from anything, he actually seems to talk a lot of sense when he's been able to.
Spot on, but at times the game is fine for other people.
@NX I think you might be right, I don't want to be feeding more. I just like the idea of benefit of the doubt.
One thing I've noticed is there seems to be no difference between those with AMD/Intel or Nvidia/ATI (I miss the name...) setups.
I'm wondering with the Delta Rising expansion if we are going to see some un-announced under the hood improvements.
I run a 4930K but with a single GTX780Ti.
Quote from another post;
Still way above what should be required. Let me dust off my K6-2 and see what that baby can do.
