Nobody uses greed anymore - everyone presses need or passes.
I tried for a long time to be fair and use greed when I didn't need, but in the end I gave up and joined the masses.
I doubt cryptic will do anything, their only interest in the game is maximizing profit, customer satisfaction is not very high on their agenda (read: none existent).
I think you will just have to press need every time.
Well since it seems they nerfed the EC values of many items some time in the past few months (deflectors, shields, engines etc. all sell for much less than they used to) it's more important to get loot now. So you either NEED if you want what dropped or PASS if you don't. I pass on uncommons.
Removing that mechanic would make me monitor my inventory more since I don't want it cluttered with greens when I leave an STF or event.
I'd indeed be in favor for removing the roll system altogether, and replacing it with personal loot that is collectable at the end of an encounter. Similar to the mark box selection we get at the end of queued events.
consequently, I have never seen a single item I wanted to need on in about 2 years. There is so much rubbish loot in the game, it would be far better and cleaner if they just reduced it to energy credits as loot only.
If they get rid of need/pass system why force/annoy people to waste time collecting stuff all over the map? Just drop it directly into their inventory.
That's how Cryptic did it in City of Heroes.
Right, which the marks go straight to where they need to go. Collectable at the end of the encounter similar to the mark box selection. We wouldn't be flying around the map if we just get it all in a nice neat little box and hit 'accept'

The Need/Greed system doesn't work well in STO because there isn't as much career specific loot. Just about everything except kits and kit modules can be used by everyone. So naturally we have a "Need everything" mentality.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I can't be bothered to sit there needing or passing on **** that i couldn't care less about, just bind need to spacebar, problem solved. But yeah really the system is pointless, noone should "need" any of the trash that drops anyway, even the purples are vendor trash at this point.
Individual loot bags awarded at the end of every mission - Solved.
This solves drama over who gets what items and makes the game far more streamlined because you dont have to fly around the map collecting drops or clicking on notification boxes.
Of course, Cryptic are incompetent so you can expect them to do nothing about making the game more intuitive compared to just annoying the players with new ways to raid their wallets.

Also because there isn't any random item that's worth equipping. Everything that drops and gets rolled on is vendor trash. I haven't seen on a single piece of equipment drop so far that would have been any sort of improvement on my current equipment, and that included STFs with fresh, lvl 50 characters.
The only exceptions so far were EDC and salvage from the old STFs, but those don't exist anymore.
Cryptic designed a feature that awarded loot drops to players and placed the loot directly into their inventory for the game City of Heroes.
It was a huge bug free success so Cryptic fired the employee that created it and burned all copies of his work. Then they put the ashes in a cement block and dumped the block in the deepest part of Marianas Trench.
Lol, bug free code that does something everyone likes? How dare he! Fired I say!
I do agree this system needs to be reviewed. I personally always select pass during the STF, sometimes I will skip it so I do not break from what I am doing.
I would like to see an option to pre-select a "pass on all drops during STF"

YES PLEASE. I can't remember the last time I actually clicked on either Need or Greed. Anyone that's been playing STO for a while is going to be loaded up on rep and fleet gear, and is already going to have millions of EC in the bank. Most of us have no need of the junk drops. I'd prefer to just automatically pass on everything. Someone else can have that green Mk XI sensor probes console.
Id say run it like ESO, if you get a hit on the mob you get a piece of loot. Then have each STF give a MK XII piece upon completion. Base it on DPS, the lower the DPS the better the piece of gear.
This would be the single best change they could make to STO mechanics. I have only started a dozen or so threads about this. I have seen dozens of others.
Still they do not change it.
Need/Greed/Pass button on top of having to press "Take Items" button means two wasted click for EVERY SINGLE LOOT DROP.
Still they don't change it.
Streamlined game-play for all if they change it.
Still they ... I'll stop now before I pop a vein ...

For the double popup for picking up items u can bind f to space as well, and the second Take Items dialogue is actually something you can disable in the options.

Yes, get rid of the need/greed mechanic. Everyone just hits need so why have a button to push anyway?
 How am I supposed to make my EC then? You sir frighten me. :P
I support the Star Trek Battles channel.

When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Yea... punish inexperienced players... that makes a lot of sense. That just fuels the DPS OR GTFO Escorts Online mentality.
