egging them on with comments like
Very easily. They can shut down testing perm except for a select group of people that are under severe NDA restrictions.
doesn't help anyone's cause though. in fact, it might hurt everyone if they do decide to do it.

it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.
Now clowns, that's another story. They scare the crap out of me.
We fight them too. Entire armies spilling out of Volkswagens.
We do our best to fight them off, but they keep sending them in.

With the testing for romulan stuff last year. Only some of us were flagged for testing even though the server remained open for everyone.

If the Devs decide that they want to limit the amount of players who do the testing, even going so far as to shut Tribble down for everyone else, they'll do it. You, as a player, don't have any rights to Tribble. Tribble access is a priviledge.

as amusing as all this is, can we get back to the main topic. according to several tweets tribble will be down for a few days. trying to figure out why its down and how much there releasing will only get your hopes up and you really should not do that as we do not really know what the devs are doing. I will say this, cryptic has not let me down yet with there seasons and Lor expansion and i expect great things from delta rising.

you missed it completely and jumped to conclusions.

i didn't mean anything about rights, i meant about people throwing that in their face all the time, which might cause a "oh, yeah. we were doing a tribble for paid users at one time. should we do it again, reducing free testing to few competent people and a large group of people who won't do anything? thanks people for reminding us!"

i still doubt that'd be the case, limiting the beta testing to a small group of people based solely on their wallets is a recipe for disaster, since most of them are incompetent in beta testing or game design area and just want to consume without giving any feedback in return.

or the feedback they'd give would be about as bad as what a ceo or a share holder who never played a video game in their life would give (for example, an idea to replace a good, robust user interface with pakled-proof tablet-huge design because that's what's popular these days with people who hate star trek).

tribble servers were shut down for a few days, all you can do is wait until they're reactivated.

there's really nothing else to be said about the topic, is there?

how would those testers be decided though? if it was through the pay 2 win method such as vet/gold account access, your problem would not only not get fixed, it'd get even worse, since most people who pay for mmos are pretty bad at games, who throw money to be able to win against competent players, while their ships are full of injuries and 10 copies of the most useless powers ever.

you'd obviously need some way to choose testers, something i doubt cryptic would do with anyone from this forum.

if it was considered, the team would and im not forwarding my name for that honor, just so you know the comment isnt built for an arrogant purpose. there are some really good players on this game, i may not agree with some of them, i may even hate a few of them, but they are a solid group of players and im not as silly to ignore how loyal they have been and how they can really help as well as how focused they are to keeping the game going. they deserve the honor of being the ones to be recognised if again, it is considered as an idea.

it has nothing to do with p2w, some of these players may not of even put any money into the subscription, but worked at it since the beginning.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

This. When beta for LoR came around, I was one of the few who WERE picked, and back then I had no money to even think about getting an LTS - I think it went on feedback history and how often you logged on to the test server (which, for the record, was practically every patch for me). I don't doubt that they will bring it back round again, but I bet that it will be a good couple of weeks until they release the list of people to invite for Beta Testing.

i remember a post form the devs awhile back that said that they were going to move all content testing over to redshirt and make tribble for code testing and stableazation so maybe that is what is happening right now. i have been a regular user and tester on tribble since rejoining the game and always had the shard access til a few days ago now i have access to red shirt instead of tribble and that access has really came up for me before, or maybe it is just what coldsanpped said it is a server maitence and upgrade.

You are reading WAY too much into things. There was a big patch pushed to Tribble, and it has been externally confirmed that it includes elements from the new expansion (I hope that information isn't enough to violate the TOS). This is the same process that they ALWAYS do when a new content push is made - bring up tribble on the new code tree, and shift the maintenance on the live code tree to Redshirt. There's nobody behind the curtain here - it's business as usual.

The server is likely only down so that the devs can confirm that the code merge is ship-shape enough to begin to roll out to testers. We will find out soon enough; it will either go live this weekend, or they will wait until next Tuesday/Friday for it, probably depending on how their internal testing goes.

    9/16/14 2:30 PM PST ---

I was in the kobali zone, deep into vaadwaur territory when I discovered I could not change out my boffs weapon. I tried beaming out, but was greeted with a load screen that had a could not connect to server message (sic). after the timer past 999 seconds, I alt+F4 out of STO, but when I tried to log back in, I kept getting the login2_timeout error when the game client tried to login.

So, looks like Tribble is down for maintence. hopefully some new content will be added and bugs will be fixed.

    UPDATE: 9/16/14 2:45 PM PST ---

just tried to login again, and there is a patch that is downloading. just over 10000 MB,, cant wait to see what gets added with that size of a patch.
Star Treking, across the universe. Only going forward because we can't find reverse...
