Tribble Maintenance and Release Notes - July 29, 2014

coldsnappedcoldsnapped Member Posts: 520 Cryptic Developer
We will be bringing down the Tribble server for maintenance to apply a new update: ST.42.20140720a.6

General:
  • Research and Development:
    • Resolved an issue where the Omni-Directional Tetryon Beam was displaying the incorrect energy type information.
    • Resolved an issue where the Omni-Directional Phaser Beam was not procing correctly.
    • Reorganized some of the messaging in the R&D task details page.
  • Duty Officer:
    • Valuable Duty Officers will no longer be chosen for assignments they could get destroyed in.
    • The Duty Officer assignment list now has a Minimized Details view mode which changes the reward and requirement blocks to icons with the detailed information in its tooltip.
    • Added a filter option to the Duty Officer assignment list to make it so that only assignments with all requirements fulfilled are displayed.
    • Removed the Department Heads tab from the Roster overtab.
    • Changed the Request More tab to the same banner that appears on the overview.
    • Resolved an issue where the filter options would still be available even if there were less than 6 Duty Officers in the selector list.
      • Filter settings are now only available when there are six or more Duty Officers.
      • Grouping Duty Officers by department now only occurs when the filter pane is open.
    • Resolved an issue where pressing escape could cause the pinned chunks of Duty Officer overview to close.
  • Resolved an issue that caused the Rolor Nebula assignments to give completion credit to the B'Tran accolades.
  • Bridge Officer passive traits appear in their passives list once again.
  • Resolved an issue that was causing the MACO, Honor Guard, and Omega sets to display as belonging to two different sets

Known Issues:
  • Research and Development:
    • "Overload" Beam Array affix proc drains weapon power.
  • Replicating needed commodities for Duty Officers assignments is not registered by the assignment when slotted.
    • This is causing players to have to back out of the assignment and then slot it again to start it.
  • Severe lag in the Foundry system.
  • The trade channel cannot be left.

There isn't an XP nerf. Its a display error. I'm doing the same assignments I always have and I'm getting similar results. Fortunately the rewards displayed are still proportional so we can still compare assignments.

I wonder if that fixes the bug where even tho we didn't choose ultra rare/special doffs during exchanges that it purged them when we did not even select them.

Would be nice if they could refund the doffs that were purged due to this bug. I'm not holding my breathe since they haven't ever refunded anything that was not a players fault tho.

    • The trade channel cannot be left.

Am I to interpret this known issue as meaning a programmer will be taking a look at the guts of the chat server? Because it actually has a bunch of known issues.

    Pretty please?

Agreed, at least let us run up to three of the same xp project at once. Similar to the limit Neverwinter has.

Please don't do this. This means that if I want to sort stuff by department, I have to open up the filter sidebar every time. Which takes up more screen space. And I have a decent sized monitor. Please keep this the way it is right now on holodeck so that I can sort by department without having this huge bar in my way.

Really, why make this change? If you have some reason, I'm willing to listen, but right now, I don't see this as an improvement.

I just looked at the UI improvement on tribble and I think this is a good step in the right direction:

Here is the comparison to the pre-9.5 doff UI main screen and the new optional 'minimized' view:

    http://i.imgur.com/OGSdW5R.png

As you can see the UI is looking a bit slimmer when you go into minimized view, the bars aren't huge anymore and I think are an acceptable size. There are now little summary buttons next to the Plan button that give you a fairly detailed summary of Task Results/Rewards (Box Icon) and the DOFFS/Items Required (Two People Icon) as shown:

    http://i.imgur.com/xIjNthk.png

I do like these summaries, but I think this would be 1000% more awesome if these were combined into one window and the act of hovering or clicking an assignment bar had this pop up. Right now the buttons are a little small to go and hover over, but this is still a great addition.

These summaries can also be seen in the normal view by hovering over the appropriate boxes which I think is a good touch because before the main page gave you very little information about each assignment and the doff traits needed.

    Now my outstanding concerns:

    1. In Progress Assignments not being sorted by time remaining

    2. The doff Auto-Selector i feel needs some tweeking, I had a couple instances on holodeck recently where I ended up actually picking doffs that gave a higher crit chance than what the Selector chose. Plus I get the feeling it's always using doffs that I don't necessarily need for that specific assignment but WILL need for another, not sure if that's something that can be fixed or not.

    3. Un-checking careers in the doff selection filter is a pain

    4. I hate being one of those people but I really don't like the bar chart, I miss the pie chart :P

This is what I've gathered from playing around with it, I'll need a few days of heavy doffing to think of anything else it may need but I think this much better... thanks for listening to our feedback on this, many a doffer will thank you :D

[*]Removed the Department Heads tab from the Roster overtab.

Hasn't there been enough removing of things in this game?

This makes inviting people to your ship to share doff assignments obsolete. You drove a knife to the back of the Tuffli and Cell ships and now you've gone and blown them up to pieces.

Furthermore, you're removing stuff and not improving the chances of the assignments appearing at all. Doffing is a long grind as it is, you've just made it as bad as R&D.

Last, but not least, you're once again cutting the chances of getting VR doffs once again raising their EC price. First it was the personnel officer dil tax, then you cut the chances of getting the colonial chain purples by removing clusters, and now you cut the chances of getting assignments like the Asylum ones in half.

Please reconsider keeping this in the game. It's not affecting anything.

FYI - I know you did this because of the "server lag" issue you said you fixed in the last Tribble patch, but removing the tab is not fixing the issue, it's just burying it.

Except in the post directly prior to yours the DH tab is clearly still there in his screenshot.

The patch note says it's only being removed from the Roster section, where it doesn't serve a purpose anyway.

Maybe Im misunderstanding what your talking about but it seems to me all they've done related to department heads is eliminate one of two places we we could access them in the UI. There still there under assignments and the first screenshot in the post right before you even shows it.

Do you think you could have someone look at the fact that the doff UI shows the wrong doffs when you are looking at the results? Its displaying the best choices, based on its algorithum, in the results screen and the collect result screen when I know for a fact those are not the ones I sent on that mission.

Its causing a fair amount of worry when I send a doff on an officer exchange and the results screen shows a purple and I know I sent a white. I have verified that it did destroy the white instead of the listed purple but its still making me uneasy.

Yeah that scares the hell out of me.

p.s. Thank you for making the Minimized Details view a sticky setting. :)

Steps in the right direction.. But still a bit more to go..

When planning an assignment, the popup window SHOULD BE MOVEABLE..

When using filters, default to having all boxes UNTICKED, and show all the doffs until a specialisation IS ticked, and once that happens, only show selected specialisations.

Remove the Que Events filter "Skill Points".. there are NO LONGER any events that award skills points now. Or leave it as is and please please please bring back Mirrior Invasion.

Only real change the DOFF UI still needs at this point is for filtering in the DOFF mission window to start with everything unchecked instead of everything checked. Maybe add back in species filtering as an option, but that's getting picky.

    So, first thing:

The minimised view is great, any chance the 'in progress' and 'completed' tab can look the same with the minimised setting?

What's also worthy of praise, it seems you fixed the bug where wrong doff professions were highlighted in green by mistake.

    - What would be nice is the mouseover info showing easier on the minimised setting. Perhaps not over the whole area of the tile, but at least over a part of it. The two icons for outcomes and requirements are kinda small.

    - What still and definitely needs fixing are all the professions and rarities checked by default when choosing a doff. All should be unchecked and showing all the available doffs by default, same as prior to 9.5 and same as it works in the roster tab. One click should allow for showing 'only' blue doffs, for instance, or all 'advisors'. Currently one has to uncheck all those boxes before getting the UI to show only one profession or rarity.

    - Another issue is that chosen filters aren't 'sticking' for the planned assignement. Say I set filters to show only purple bartenders, then I want to quickly check my inventory or mail --> the pop-up window with filters disappears and all settings with it. This is particularly annoying in assignements requiring a large number of doffs.

    - And last for this post, assignements should be ordered by time of completion in the 'in progress' and 'complete' tabs. That would probably also fix the 'Assignement Log' tab that is uselessly showing copies of the same doff assignement now (based on the order in the available list).

Now to close with a suggestion: Could the 'Request more Duty officers' err...picture? ... be moved as a tab back on top of the whole doff window? Getting doffs is afterall necessary for both crafting and RnD and there's quite some space up there.

Oh, and don't panic! Dept heads weren't removed (yet). Only a duplicit tab with them was (thankfully the one routinely used was kept and the one strangely placed was removed).
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

    Agreed.
    Now my outstanding concerns:

    1. In Progress Assignments not being sorted by time remaining
Not only that, but the completed assignments need to be displayed in the order that they were completed. And it needs to carry through to the Assignment log that shows recently finished assignments.
There needs to also be a auto-select off feature. I can select my own team thank you. Though I can understand and appreciate that the team w/sh-ouldn't implement that until they have the filtering fully straightened out.
    3. Un-checking careers in the doff selection filter is a pain
    Indeed.
    4. I hate being one of those people but I really don't like the bar chart, I miss the pie chart :P
If we're being honest we are going through the growing pains as we bring the new DOFF UI up to par with the old DOFF UI. Almost everyone misses the pie chart, it was a far simpler visual representation to process. I want to make the purple pie slice as big as possible. I don't want ANY red slice. The perfect visual aid.
This is what I've gathered from playing around with it, I'll need a few days of heavy doffing to think of anything else it may need but I think this much better... thanks for listening to our feedback on this, many a doffer will thank you :D

the compact mode looks much better

one thing I can't help but ask tho is couldn't the duration and rarity be moved into the large empty space in the middle thereby allowing the whole mission to be shrunk down further to around the height / single line of the plan button ?

could even save space by removing the icon's background and just having the trade / diplomacy type icon in it's place.

a risk indicator might be nice as well something like 4 colored dot's or something white for no risk, green low, med orange and high red.

also wondering if anyone's still getting doff missions going into negative time's to complete with this patch ?

Well, have to say I wasn't expecting to see any DOFF UI improvements after that passive aggressive performance by Geko a little while ago, especially when he said about there being 'no actionable feedback' when there was plenty.

I'm glad to see the changes, it now looks how it should have done in the first place, and I will say it does look fantastic.

I still think the R&D change needs reverting, because if people want to level one school faster at the expense of others that's their choice.

Minimized Doff UI is certainly a step in the right direction, however especially manually selecting doffs for an assignment is still a pain.

And since the topic is already mentioned: Yeah, please let us once again slot multiple r&d research projects of the same school. Like in Neverwinter, like Gekos and Hawks Podcast/ forum statements suggest. After all, the time to finish all crafting schools would remain the same, but with being able to prioritize one we'll be able to get at least some at maxlevel usable items in a reasonable timespan.
