Take a bunch of your STO friends to a Poker site. Each of you use your game pics as your Avatar. Now you can sit around and play Star Trek power - and do it on a site dedicate to that function. :)

    this for thread win !!!!

Poker is gambling and there's no gambling allowed in STO.

Now go buy more lock boxes and hope you get the best drop.

They really should add in more mini-games, it actually promotes socializing. Something STO severely lacks atm.

    9.5 and still no poker?

    kinda odd ...

Sorry, but i would find poker ingame odd (and unneccessary)
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
    unfortunately:

And Lock Boxes don't promote Gambling? I'm sorry, but this reason/excuse is complete bull.

It's a Gamble when you open a Lock Box. It's even a Gamble with the new Crafting System as to whether you'll get a Purple Mk XII piece. The whole argument against Poker not being allowed because it's gambling is void. I wish people would realize this.

Alright, this is not about what is and isn't gambling in a philosophical sense. Hey, maybe paying for college was a gamble, etc, but the important thing here is legality. If they are doing stuff that can be found legally to be gambling without a license, it can be shut down.

Likely, they have attorneys telling them poker is a no go.

The IP for Star Trek Online Poker is owned by another firm. Cryptic can't use it regardless if it's for 'fun' or not.

Both console (video poker) and online poker and slots has been licensed for Classic Trek, TNG and the new movie.

How can you own the IP for poker? It's a game that's been played for rather a long time, they don't have ownership of it.

How can you patent genes? They've been around on earth for AT LEAST 3 billion years... Yet, several companies have... Thats right... part of your body is patented by someone else.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Huh? I've never made a poker thread and I'm not the OP. I think you're mixed up about a few things.

its a general point, its not moot in any way, i mean anyone can make a thread about something, if if the thread goes downhill by others its a warning to them as much as it is to the thread maker that clearly its going nowhere about this specific subject. i do em when its appropriate.

Not poker. Poker in a Star Trek game. There are some elements that can be incorporated into STO and some that, by law, the developers are not at liberty to include. Possibly, another company owns the rights to a Star Trek themed poker game. I would need to see it cited to be sure but I don't see why it's not possible.

no idea where it came from although some suggest it started somewhere along the Mississippi river, became somewhat popular around the area and then took off like wildfire, TNG itself was also an oxygen catalyst for this as well. its possible the game may have originated between uk, france, germany and iran.

i cant see how anyone can hold the rights to a card game that history claims was done by people around the world.

I'd rather have ship interiors redesigned to be to scale (and maybe add a shuttlebay). That said, I wouldn't mind seeing poker as a minigame either.

    Except they haven't.

They've tried but no patents have been granted for specific Genes.

Gene THERAPIES however are open game as are any pending artificial genes.

    The idea is selling wrong.

People should argue how minigames like Poker would actually increase the need for socialization in STO, since people would actually have to actually interact outside of Queues.

You don't need to socialize in a computer power game. You just press whatever buttons you need to press to play the right cards or make your bets or whatever. You could just as well play against an AI.

Sure, you could choose to post something in chat. But you also could chose against it.

This is sarcasm, right? No socializing, that's partly why STO is getting more and more like a SMO than an MMO.
