no poker in 9.5 either..

9.5 and still no poker?

kinda odd when you think about it, the community have been asking for poker since season 1...

    Well they've been asking for T5 connies since Launch too.

    Also, why would you assume that 9.5 would have poker when it was never listed in any of the blogs or discussions...

    Or was it more a "Wonder why" thread..?
    Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

    CBS have said no T5 Connies. To my/our knowledge, they've not said No to Poker. ;)

    I can't remember where - sorry, but it has been mentioned that poker will never be put into the game because it is felt it will promote gambling.

    Also various different countries where STO is played has different laws about online gambling and what is and isn't allowed so to implement it would be a major headache.

    Perhaps this subject should be added to the FCT list?

    Wouldn't that require having friends? How am I supposed to make friends if I play STO all the time.

    And Lock Boxes don't promote Gambling? I'm sorry, but this reason/excuse is complete bull.

    It's a Gamble when you open a Lock Box. It's even a Gamble with the new Crafting System as to whether you'll get a Purple Mk XII piece. The whole argument against Poker not being allowed because it's gambling is void. I wish people would realize this.

    I never said it was a good argument considering the rest of the game just that was the reason given at the time.

    Also a lot of the countries around the world where STO is played have strict laws against recognised gambling I.e. Poker, blackjack and roulette. If STO was to have poker in game they would fall foul of these laws and would be a problem to implement as you would need to create a different version of the game for each and every country where it's played. Ergo it's easier to simply not put it in there to begin with, and considering they have Dabo already in game strikes me as a bit bonkers anyway!

    Personally I have no problem with putting poker in the game as I do enjoy it, especially Texas Hold'em, the idea of playing your BOff's or fleet mates would be fun IMO.

    Yeah...no.

    Lockboxes are a lottery. You buy a ticket (metaphorically speaking) and it pays off or it doesn't. Poker and blackjack are technically games of skill at which it's possible to cheat. It's not possible to cheat in a lottery. Conflating "a gamble" with "gambling" is semantically erroneous.

    Poker and Blackjack are just as much game of chance as Lottery-boxes... if the cards aren't stacked in your favor, you're screwed.

    Type free poker in to Google (other search engines are available), find free online poker game, play free online poker game, stop flogging the dead horse.
    How I picture a lot of the forumites :P

    Forget about Poker, just add klaverjassen and hartenjagen.
    This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

    this again, hmm.. last i read up about it was from taco, he stated it wasnt really possible due to time constraints. considering the content pump has been working like mad recently, cant really disagree with that thought.

    Take a bunch of your STO friends to a Poker site. Each of you use your game pics as your Avatar. Now you can sit around and play Star Trek power - and do it on a site dedicate to that function. :)
    STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    If I had made a request about it, yes... I agree...

    But the purpose was to illustrate how silly a request poker was, so I can't see how Askray could defend putting this thread under lock because of it.

    i dunno if it was relation to c47 or in general with everything else, but that was the last i read up about the minigames. if taco wonders in, maybe things have changed? if not it would be good for FCT for askray, one less annoying request that keeps popping up.

    Except one can outright buy the prize from a lockbox on the exchange but one can't buy a win in poker.

    used to be TRIBBLE at poker but one thing that always happened was one player got enough chips they could outbid others to the deal and scare the competition off, in effect buying out the round. you can buy a win in poker.

    Not going to argue any further (i actually think this topic should go the way of the t5 connie) but not the same thing. Without playing the lottery, I can get the prize I want from the exchange, but I cant walk up to a poker game and buy everyones chips and count that as a win as it would be a net zero.

    suit yourself, just make sure you dont play any more poker matches in the future any further, because poker is about taking your opponents out of the game and getting as much as possible before it dries out. besides that, why did you create a poker thread for in the first place if your not going to fight your own corner about having it in, in the first place?

    Lockboxes are not traditional gambling in the sense you are garunteed to win something. Poker doesn't work like that. But all this legality aside, they said no and that's the final word from Cryptic and no thread spamming is going to change that.

    it is mentioned in the upcoming content page here - http://sto.gamepedia.com/Upcoming_content
    right at the bottom of the Undetermined Release section as dependent on developer free-time.

    not to mention dabo being a rip off of roulette, providing they only use EC or GPL like dabo does or some other token that is not linked directly to real money but just for fun there should not be a problem.

    the best place to put it is on risa IMHO and make the zone a year round venue, they could even have it use risean favours so when you want to play you can top up your funds by playing the Horga'hn Hunt, Dance Competition or hover board race, or have it so you can exchange GPL for favours if you have any.

    perhaps that somthing they could work on to launch in time for next years summer event.

    Huh? I've never made a poker thread and I'm not the OP. I think you're mixed up about a few things.
