I didn't expect so many postings when I started this topic Some good points have been made, although ultimately I personally would rather see a Kllingon ambassador and consider S'taass behaviour not helpful. That has nothing to do with "specism", though, I just don't like the "Red Confederation" faction theme and think the "Klingon" factions should reflect a loose alliance or client relationship much more as opposed to a happy family where even Orions suddenly quote Khaless. I like Gorn in general, although the STO Gorn look nothing like Gorn. They are modeled after the hideous american Godzilla rather than the Gorn we saw in Star Trek. But that's another debate
This is something players of Orions and well anything not a Klingon or human has griped on.
Everything old is new. Arrive as a Borg and the guy barely bats an eye. But wonders what you are if you are a KDF anything. Particularly amusing since they have a few Orions on the lounge level but he can't recognize a group of them when he sees them.
In a way I wish they had taken a page from WoW and gotten each race a home starting point and you went to your ship. Then NPC's could identify you by race instead of by faction.

I get that some Gorn might serve gladly, but why would assign the post of ambassador to a member of a recently annexed kingdom - I just can't see that happening, really.
It's a bit like Putin making a Crimean his Ambassador to the west......

I dont know, I like S'taass. He adds an interesting dynamic to an otherwise bland species. Coolest by far...but definitely bland. Aside from him, the Gorn seem to just be a gaggle of mindless lizardmen. He reminds us that the Gorn are in fact intelligent. Also, as far as his position goes, the Hegemony is part of the Klingon alliance, but where Federation members are "members", members of the Empire seem stick out a bit more, almost like semi-third parties. At least thats how it looks to me. S'taass is unquestionably loyal to the Empire as he is smart enough to know that he owes the Klingons his planet. In an ambassador role, I think the Klingon's sense of honor would put him at a slight disadvantage, as he would be constantly denying his Empire of any sort of honor. An intelligent, intimidating, semi-third party agent like S'taass is better suited to roll with the punches and making compromises for the betterment OF THE ENTIRE empire, not just its honor. He is honor bound, but he understands he represents all the interests of the empire. Also his being ambassador depicts a united Klingon Empire. The fact that he is so high up in the chain evokes an image of the Empire that is not 100% Klingon 100% of the time.

Why can't Worf continue to be the Klingon Ambassador?
Seems a far better use for the character.
Given his past association with Starfleet, J'mpok likely doesn't trust him when it comes to dealing with the Federation.

well on the Fed side, the Vulcan monk you talk to on the Ferry ambassador undine, recognized bt 2nd fed character as an Andorian, with a conversation option that did not occur with my Terran tactical main.
Same with Captain Shon in the first contact day that just passed, Which Shon recognized his is one of the few if not the only Andorian to command an Enterprise, and that he isnt about to being embarrassment upon "our" world, that did not come up with my Terran Tac that came up with my Andorian Engineer.
1) Staass as the gorn was sent coz he not belongs to any House and therefore he is neutral
2) Noone other wanted visit that "boring" meeting with lot of human and romulan petaQs
