I would not hesitate to drop some cash on this. Just wish Cryptic would use a fan design. So much better. I can't take another Cryptic Fed design.
Well I must say, I don't really like that one, just looks kinda' weird to me. But, since we're talking about fan designs from the 'design the next Enterprise contest', I feel obliged to throw >this one< in. Now, she's got the look!

Man, I remember that entry! Let me second the nomination to get that ship in-game. Makes me think it's a solid replacement as the NCC-1701-G.

THAT one is my fave of all the designs from that contest.
They did tell us they had rights for the submissions and can create or adapt them for the game.
And i think i read somewhere hat they wanted to make a playable U.S.S. Dauntless (The fake federation ship from VOY) Could make sense since we are in the Delta Quadrant now.
And broadside Cannons? For what? For cruisers? Cannons with a firing arc of 45° ona slow turning cruiser. Stupid. They could make Beam Arrays more powerful but not broadside cannons. And escorts dont need broadside cannons they have the Turnrate.
We have never seen a ship firing a cannon broadside. BoP and Vor`Cha as well as the Defiant have Front cannons and for every other direction use Beams.
Yes you have. But you're thinking of a different kind of ship all together.
Naval Vessels almost never had forward guns until the advent of modern weapons.
With the design of most cruisers i've been wondering if someone would finally have the smarts to put turrets on the sides of a ship (as potentially a special module or an outright design choice.) to allow that style of firing once again. Which is called a Broadside in naval terms.
Also Turrets fire in all directions so its not quite as hard as you might think. (They use the cannon style as well)
What i could see as a possible set up for this is if the user chooses to throw cannons on their ship they wont have access to the forward beam arrays and be limited to that 45 degree angle maybe even a smaller 30 degree arc but would have the firepower (and SERIOUS vulnerability) Of having those cannons.
For the record however as for ships i expect to see.
I expect the Super Capital Class to be introduced.
AHAHAHA! It's the constipated butt-prise! I was wondering when this would come up again and would love to see Perpetual's ship flying about, grazing its hind quarters on some planetoid or asteroid just so I could laugh my face off!
And if its not added officially then BEST April fools joke ever! Though the amount of rage generated when it disappears the next day...
Ok, now i've stopped laughing, lets see here. This ship would be a good replacement for Cryptic's outdated Excalibur that's in-game, and I could see Cryptic heavily modifying this one to balance the ship design, but can't see them doing a good job with that.
Overall in my opinion Fed ships created by Cryptic aren't doing so well at all, to the point where I'm over their designs. I made a debate about this in the Art of STO for anyone to look at: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1076671

I'm going to be perfectly honest here - if this ship becomes availible, I might even swap my Galaxy for it.
I just have a thing modern designs that are extrapolated from the classic TOS/TMP designs and I see this one as a fine example of that.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Meh. While there were some fantastic ships submitted for the 'Design the next Enterprise' contest, they were all meant to be Enterprises; so they're a little grandiose for my tastes generally speaking. Personally, I want a few more cruiser options that aren't trying to be the next Sovereign.

I am almost certain that the TNG/DS9/VOY guys used the same model as basis at least, but they are canonically different ships.
