This is a drain build on a new toon, so i don't have reps yet, working on it so i list that i have rep gear when i don't, but I'd like tips on how to increase my energy drain effectiveness. I was too lazy to set up my skills, but if it is science and increases drain or disable, i got it

Also the Doffs should be ones that help decrease the cooldown of subsystem targeting powers so you can abuse the natural subsystem targeting abilities of the Vesta and Doffs that have a chance of shutting down a system when Energy Siphon is used.
And get the Plasmonic Leech Console for more power drain.
Btw, personally some of my fleetmates used a combination of tykens rift doffed + energy siphon doffed + tractor beam doffed with ewp/theta and target shield subsystem or engine on the target: stop them and drain them, pratically speaking.

2) If this build is for PvP purposes, your ship will lower power levels, but never take any subsystems offline unless you get lucky with a phaser proc or someone with 0 power insulators and one subsystem with low power.
3) If you're so worried about people remaining in your Tykens, just use your tractor beam on them or use the Tyken's aftershock doff.
That being said, for Pve purposes, your ship will probably cripple most NPCs you shoot at. Also note, since you're firing Aux cannons while using sci skills, you're modifying their effectiveness if you click on them when Aux isn't at max.

Glad I could show you the power sucking abilities of Dracula. Shields tremble at the sight of my ship.
Nope, not quite. Remember that most people will have at least 50% resist to the drains, if not more. Meaning if you add up your total drains you'll need to divide that by 2 to get an estimate on the effectiveness of your build. 175 drain sounds great...til someone resists it by throwing points into insulators. Now it's just 88 drain. Not bad, but not great. Then remember most people have leech. That gives them another 12-35 power in each of their systems (depending on how spec'd they are into flow). So the effective drain now sits somewhere between 50 and 75ish. Not bad still...except only one subsystem is getting that full drain: the one that was "Targeted". Without the "target subsystem," most of the drain is probably sitting somewhere around 30-40 effective.
So...if they are able to get all subsystems at or over 75 (at least), you're looking at bringing the 75 down to about 40. Without a tykens and tractor/engine drain, that's not really going to kill too many builds, especially when they can clear Syphon with Hazards and use EPtX and ship batteries, and possibly Red Matter.
When the guys/girls are saying "use Tykens," they mean it, lol. From what I experience on my drain build, I would even go as far to recommend Tykens 3, with an Energy Siphon 2. The Tykens 3 is a huge drain, and it more than makes up for the lower Energy Siphon.
Max your flow skill points. Get a sci ship with 5 flow sci consoles. Then grab a deflector with the largest [Flow] you can find (I think a lot use the jem'hadar deflector?). I'm probably missing something, it's late here. And for lulz, use the Rommy T5 ability right before a major drain to get a +100 to your flow stats.
Playing drain is different, a lot of timing is involved to get the longest effective drain. But ooooh it can be so much fun. I hope you enjoy it.
All I can say about having faced that, is that it was a graveyard smash.
Very true. A drain build is not about spacebar smashing. You actually have to time things in order to get results, and you hit the nail on your explanation. You have to assume every ship you face in PvP has between 35%-50% resistance to drains. The most susceptible are Romulan ships because of the -40 penalty.
Thanks, lunch I try to learn from the most experienced players, like yourself, and then try to pass-on what I have learned. It's nice to know I'm learning/teaching correctly, lol.
And yeah, I completely forgot about Romulan Ships... that -40 would be something to consider.
Reason I ask, is because there is a doff that aids it, in debuffing timers against enemies by 50%, so this may or may not be helpful in timing those drains between cd's.
Praetor of the -RTS- Romulan Tal Shiar fleet!
This is very good to know, thanks for writing this. At the moment I'm looking into creating a drain build for my science captain's Tulwar. With 5 flow caps already, and once I get the aceton assimilator, hopefully I can suck enemy players dry of power and then swoop in and shoot.

ST clears all confuses and placates. Or at least Scrambles and Jam.
For some reason, I now have an odd desire to make a Sci ship and call it the USS Jam Sandwich.
I'm surprised I don't see more people trying to build a max countermeasure systems skill ship.
i built one of those, seemed like i was the only one too... i got lot's a QQ about it
it was the breen raider, i made a sci scort with all sorts of placates, was very fun ^^
i'm sure there are better ships to make countermeasure ships with, but the jem set and breen raider console just seem to synergize.
oh ya, it was a bit of a drainer too... i had CPB with the placate doff, and the drain could rip an escorts shields near off lol
Probably because it doesn't give anywhere near the visceral feedback that you can get out of other setups. Well, and because there are exactly two skills that care about Countermeasures consoles.
two skills, the breen console and cpb placate doff.... possibly more. and done right, it got a lot of QQ ^^
oh ya, i didn't use the t4 placate, but i think that is also effected my countermeasures.
almost forgot the infamous AMS :P
Yeah, but I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of a doffed Scramble Sensors 3 from someone who went over the top (is 299.1 the unbuffed max?).
Twilight Vesta :P LOL

Oh **** I know what my next ship is going to be now....

That ship follows the old "never waste a tac console slot" advice, which is garbage in my book. On top of that, it wastes a doff slot on Juel Ducane, which gives you a 5 second disable every 2 minutes (do the math with ES cooldowns and proc chance). The subsystem targeting doff, I have tried it with my build, and it's nice, I just need other doffs more than that one.
