Black Energy Weapons?

firelordzx5firelordzx5 Member Posts: 79 Arc User
in STO we have a large variety of energy weapons, each one has their own color.

Phaser - Yellow/Orange

Disruptor - Green

Tetryon - Blue

Plasma - Cyan

Polaron - Purple

Anti Proton - Red

There are also mixed energies weapons or weapons that have certains affinities.

Phased Polaron - Magenta

Polarized Tetryon - Sky Blue

Protonic Polaron - Light Blue

Elachi Crescent - Greenish Yellow (Color no avariable)

and Finally

Destabilizing Tetryon - White

alright, we got an Rainbow of energy weapons... quite literally. but now we just need the black to complete the color palette of energy weapons and with the Delta Quadrant approaching, this can be a possibility.

Can't really think of a damage type that would work with a black color scheme. Also... you forgot the Chroniton Dual Beam Bank, which literally is Rainbow colored.

Black could work for Ground, but as others have said, it just won't work for Space.

Dark matter projection array. Give it about 2/3rds the damage of beam weapons of the same Mk and quality, but with 60% shield penetration, and drain triple the energy that it would normally cost (minus 10 weapon power becomes minus 30) or more if necessary. It should also have a relatively long codown. Something like 10 or 15 seconds for a single beam array type.

Oh god, not more shieldpen. It's already possible to die with 90% shields in PvP, don't make it worse.

Given most of space in STO is bright colours, I don't agree that black weapons would be invisible.
Check out this effect for an example

    sorta like... grav well beams.

Might as well throw in Nova bombs and that Gamma Ray Burst weapon the Drago-Kazov had..

Seriously though, I could see the actual Iconians using some sort of smokey black 'death rays' with violet outlines that match the color schemes of their ships. Granted, I have no idea what kind of power their ships could or would be running on to even begin to start the treknobabble about it.

The retrofit phaser arrays that come with the connie are blue, as well as the mk ones you can get as a mission reward.

Lol. Sry. I don't do pvp, so I wouldn't know. Besides, I was just tossing out something that fit the OP's desire for black energy beams. Any other thoughts out there?

Operations Ensign: Sir, unidentified ship 800 kilometers and closing

    Captain: Onscreen!

*Iconian ship moving towards them, all ominous and foreboding like*

    Captain: Hail them!

    Ensign: No response..

Tactical Officer: I am reading some sort of energy buildup...i think they are charging weapons!

Captain: Shields up! lock phasers and fire!

*Iconian ship fires on ship with black beams wreathed in indigo fire*

Ensign: Shields down to 60%! Those beams cut straight through our shields like they weren't even there! Reading heavy damage on decks 6, 8, and 11..

Captain: Helm, evasive maneuvers, pattern delta!

    >What are they firing at us Lieutenant?

Tactical: I am unsure, I am reading intense graviton emissions, but different from our own phasers, these gravitons seem...fused...into an even more dense particle

(and i'm going to end it there...unless ya'll want to see me attempt more of what i think treknobabble for Iconian vessels would be like :D )

Technically speaking the Iconian's are a Type 3 or even 4 civilization. Fights with then would be futile.

Though, that'd never actually happen in the game or lorewise. Can't wipe out everything we know :P

I love that CDBB. I keep it on every antiproton ship I use, and I don't give a TRIBBLE that it's weak and the proc is no longer unique.

Realistic energy weapons would be invisible with maybe a dot on the enemy ship and signs of weapons firing from the main ship. A X-ray Laser would be completely invisible. There is actually very few Star Trek energy weapons that should be visible if the series was realistic. Of course, Star Trek is not about being realistic so having invisible weapons or weapons that are only visible on certain maps goes against the style of Star Trek.

What about a graviton based beam which is improved by sci graviton generators instead of tactical consoles? The whining of power creep 5-6 tac console lockbox ubership fanboys would be magnificient :D

you expect to see stars and nebulas in space? yes? no, you wont, so firing off a black beam of energy, you wont even see it, not unless its got a strong enough tint around it to notice it fired at all.

Anti Proton is Black in the middle with evil looking red surronding it but I always imagined the Iconians using Anti Proton weaponery as it seems like they did in that one Mission with the Borg at the end "Fear Us"

I'm sure we'll see opaque "Black" energy weps, likely with the Iconians. They might only be 3/5ths as strong as normal weps but they might fire faster.

It wouldn't be hard to do from an art standpoint - you just make their highlights a different color.

Actually, it is all of the colors. It just doesn't reflect any back. That is why when light hits a black surface, you see no color, it isn't reflected.

Space is different than an energy weapon, or black colored surface. In space, you see black because there is nothing to reflect light.

DT isnt white its just another light blue...Black in space? Might as well give invisable beams. Also someone doesnt know basics Black is the lack of light, so a energy sauce would never cause for a black appearance.
