Systems Designer Phil "Gorngonzolla" Zeleski reveals more details about the upcoming Starfleet Advanced Dyson Science Destroyer ships in this entry of the Season 8 News Dev Blog series.
Do those ships actually have any customizable parts? Because looking at those screenshots I'm starting to wonder if the only difference is the hull material...
Also, I'd still like to know - will those ships have access to faction-specific hull materials?
I like the Federation one. Something to look at when I get my Sci Captain up to that level. Thanks for letting it be offered for the ones who couldn't do the Anniversary Event. My weekend only playing wouldn't allow it, due to lack of time. Now I have a chance to get one as well.
Looks like I need to get my Sci Captain going.

No Faction specific materials, according to this tweet.
@WilV79A high level decision has been made to not allow these ships to use faction-specific materials. Sorry, no dice.
You guys really should put the secondary deflector and warp/singularity core on the C-store ships. If people are going to pay out the nose just for the consoles, don't also punish them for chasing that tiny obnoxious Q'lones all over creation for two weeks solid too.
They look nice. Please make that "skin" applicable to other ships by adding the visuals to the Solenae Shields. That violent-and-ivory is amazing, and needs to be shared.

I think the base variants might get their way to Fleet Shipyards, like the Odyssey/Bortas did. But Devs haven't said anything about wether or not it would happen yet.

Got a funny feeling, that what was suggested by a player in another thread's likely to happen, eh? They'll go the Obelisk route with them...
Hmm.....i thought there would have customizable parts....all i see are different skins. I don't like how the the nacelles and deflector look, I would have loved to be able to change them. But it seems that wont be possible. I'll have to pass on this and stick with my Vesta and save my zen for something else.
Perhaps it was named after.... (snicker).... British General (pfft)... Bernard Montgomery...eh?
<
pounds desk laughing so hard!
....HAHAHAHAHA I just couldnt hold it in much longer.
What about General Richard Montgomery who served with the Continental Army during the Revolution? Okay, maybe that came to mind first for me because I attended RMHS (a million years ago)...heh.
And though the name would usually be the last name and not the first name - there's no way they couldn't have forseen folks going lolwut to that, eh?

The only reason a lot of people did that awful anniversary grind was to get the warp core and the secondary deflector dish.
Think they'll be ecstatic if it turns out they could have just bought the kit?

If you look at the screenshots there are unique parts for each ship. The nacelles and hull sections are obviously different.

Yeah, they are, a bit, if you look into it.
*sigh* I honestly miss the early STO designs, where every sub-class was actually different to the point where you wouldn't even tell they were using the same basic model.
And now? Now even if the ship is given some customization options it's mostly very subtle and barely noticeable, with the main silhouette remaining practically unchanged (Vesta, Kumari, Scimitars etc.).
Not content with this. Especially seeing Cryptic limits players' options like this - even though we've read a couple of weeks back how new ships are made and that hull materials essentially are made in a way that every ship could use every material.
I'll say it again - quite dumb "high level decission". Not sure what they're thinking up there.
No Faction specific materials, according to this tweet.
Ok, well, I guess I'll just wait and see then. The only options now are shields like the KHG one (I seem to recall a nice Aves with one over DS9).
This decision (along with the whole anniversary blunder: secondary deflector and warp core only on the grindy version, grind for a 9 console ship, ...) just makes it less likely for me to get the Romulan (and even less the KDF) versions.
But they're all very capable ships, perhaps too capable even, with their very high shield mods and hull (for mostly sci ships) complete with decent turn.
Btw Smirk, I believe the shield mod on these FED versions should be 1.43, not 1.457, as the base one's got 1.3.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

The "grind"...took about 2-3 minutes a day per toon. Yes, running the mission for the 400 Qmends was annoying for additional toons (and that definitely got grindy) - but one didn't have to run it - they could just have done the 2-3 minutes for 25 days instead of running mission and then spending 2-3 minutes a day per toon for 15 days.
It has to be the easiest grind they've done, yet it appears to be generating the most complaints.
Considering the cost of the Obelisk vs. what one had to do to get it for free, I think the folks that would think about paying for it might be a little happier knowing that it took more than just a "Hello...why thanks!" sort of deal.

Very different hull designs. It's very similar to what they did with the Vesta; subtle differences but still recognizable as a Dyson Science Destroyer.
umm.... I fail to understand why there needed to be three different blogs for these ships, other than some small stat changes (and cloak/singularity powers) the three faction ships are virtually the same, with the same consoles. Not a complaint!
also, might get a pack if I ever go super sci/tact heavy, not my cup of tea for the time being though.

That's the thing - the differences are subtle. You barely notice them.
When I first started playing STO I've spent hours customizing my ships so they would look unique. For better or worse...
And now? Now you get your new Avenger or Mogh and the only thing you can change are the pylons - but only if you get the Fleet variant, because Cryptic loves your money.

For the same reason you get the same spam each and every day on your e-mail.

the federation version lacks a cloak of any kind, but has less hull then the kdf version and the same amount as the rom version. so, having the highest shield mod of the 3 by quite a bit is an appropriate trade off.
this is them listening to the threads saying the fed version loses out to the other 2

It's hard not to see +2.1% shield being better than a standard Cloak though. I mean, outside of somebody that smokes and will take breaks during solo missions/replays/grinds - standard Cloaks are worthless.
Did they retro the Fed RADSD with an increased amount for consistency and also to maintain the +10% aspect? I don't have any Fed toons to look at it to see if it changed...
Got a funny feeling, that what was suggested by a player in another thread's likely to happen, eh? They'll go the Obelisk route with them...
I would agree with that because you most likely won't see many of these ships out there. Heck I didn't even bother getting a lobi obilisk lol. Looked too much like a flying bicycle seat for me to want to pilot it. So yeah its either just gonna be a lobi store route or they will lower the price or add something to it like with that rom tact carrier they gave it a hangar slot to try to get it to sell but you rarely ever see anyone use one of those.
That's just one dumb "high level decission" if you ask me.
Well, at least I won't be spending any money tomorrow then. "Sorry, no dice."
Thanks for the info.
I will insert a quote "we have dogs so voth have dinosaurs". I will say the look of the dyson sphere itself is great. Although they went too far with this solonae stuff I don't really know anyone who likes it all how it looks much less is going to pay 10k zen for this TRIBBLE. I do like how its going to bridge the delta quadrant with the hirogen and the undine into the game but I personally don't like these ships or the dyson gear for the most part. Especially those ground sets seem to not be as great as the STF ground sets but I figure that was intentional (on tribble before release the dyson ground sets were actually far better but they scaled them down too much for any of my characters to actually use them).

I agree, I am not going to buy it until this happens.

They got a ship for free, and if people pay for the Z-store versions and get the deflector and core with it they are spending money so it won't be cheating people who did the grind, as their grind let them get it free.

Its more of the principal of the thing. Events should be fun, but every event, summer, winter, and now anniversary events is being turned into simple minded boring grindfests where you have to do the same race or same find Q game every day. Its bad enough Summer and Winter were like this, but every anniversary was just to do 1 mission and get the ship then its over, you never had to do the Q mission before. The Q mission was always optional, people who like the party poppers could do it and people like me could always skip it every year and just do the episode for the ship.
I don't mind grinds but it has to have something other then doing the same non combat party mini games every day. No chance of me ever doing Q's game ever even for a JHAS even if I didn't already own one.
Oh well if they don't give the deflector or core no big deal, I have so many end game ships across all factions and characters that I won't miss it.

Montgomery as the Tac and Omega as the Eng? Lolwut?
