Happy Science Destroyer Day!

hyplhypl Member Posts: 3,719 Arc User
Well...for those that haven't spent Lobi to reduce the grind...

If you've played A Step Between Stars and put up with Q's stupid party patrol every day since the anniversary event began, people should be getting their Science Destroyers today.

How do you feel? Was it worth it? Will you continue to grind Qmendations for next year?

I have gone once per day and I will not get mine until tomorrow...

As an RA-level ship I am not certain it was worth it for my Fed Sci officer, but my KDF and Rom Sci officers will get some nice use out of it. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I'll have mine about 12 hours from now.
Didn't even bother with the ship on the Fed side since there are plenty of very good Sci ships to use there.
But my Liberated Borg Klingon and my Romulan Sci will make good use of their ships.
The former is sitting in a Vet Destroyer right now while the latter is in a hungrybird (Ha'nom'nom'nom).
And even though those two ships are great, I think something with 4 Sci consoles suits them better.
In particular on the KDF side I've wanted a small, maneuverable "scoutship" for a long time.:D

Got it today on two characters. Tomorrow for number three and three more days for the three remaining.
Not sure if I'll unpack the ships.

    I'm funny that way... :P

My Fed main has had hers for a few days now, thanks to that 20 free lobi.

Nice ship, but the Vesta beats it in all but that 4th cannon. Had we been able to swap it out for a better energy type, I would say the Dyson would of then got it.

The Romulans got the better version thanks to not having a good selection of Science ships, and my Romulan alt with most likely fly it full time. :D

Also, on the Fed version at least, the animation is borked. One of the nacelles sticks out longer in Tactical mode, which is a shame. :(

I got it on my 3 main chars and tested it in Dyson Sphere combat.

Usually I do this with a Jemmie Dread, a Scimitar and a Bortasqu. Or an Escort.

It's quite new for me to play with only 2 Engineering BOFF slots. I set the ship up with 2x Grav Well, DHC cannons and using the Solanae set. I might try my usual Borg+X approach later today.

Be it Sci or Tactical Mode, the ship is agile and fun to fly, but it couldn't measure up to the raw power of Cruisers, Carriers or Escorts. Grav Well was useful.

But in Tactical Mode it rather felt like a slightly less effective Escort, in Sci Mode I basically had one more Grav Well and the secondary deflector - I would not have noticed if it wouldn't have been equipped.

I don't think a 10th console slot will make the ship much better. But I have not yet found a truly convincing DOFF/BOFF/Weapon&Equipment setup.

I wanted to point out that with GravWell, you're not playing to the Dyson Secondary Deflector's strength: that thing is meant to help you drain - it's meant to 'debuff', not 'control'. Anything that's power draining (energy siphon, Tyken's Rift, Viral Matrix) or shield damaging (Tachyon Beam, Charged Particle Burst) is going to have an additional effect doing extra damage to enemy shields and letting you absorb that to regenerate your own shields.

Using GravWells, you won't notice the difference.

Seems some took a break/skipped their regeneration cycles.

I'm a couple of days off for one toon, a day or two more for the other two.

Will i be happy once this grind is over? Yup.

Will the ship get much use? Nope. It's a gimmick ship, especially for the Feds.

But the warp core will be useful for that four piece set bonus.

Will i be happy to not have to chase a miniQ around for a while? Good grief, YES.

Will i be spending money to buy zen, as a token of my appreciation for the grindaversary? I'll let you figure that one out.

honestly, I don't have one, but almost everyone I have talked to (in fleet or in pugs.) has said its pretty much garbage..

the biggest complaint, is its got too much fluff.. honestly, there are too many skills to juggle, not only is it a nightmare when speccing, but you spend the whole time paying attention to your "rotation" (for a lack of better words) than actually paying attention to whats going on..

on top of the skill inundation, you have to worry about what spec your running in, tac or sci.. also, in all the testing we have done, no matter how we build it, its just not pumping out anything remotely close to good numbers in dps. the ship makes a decent tank, but star trek online has no use for tanks, so again, its a fairly useless ship..

even with the addition of a tenth console at the end of the month, our projections are that you wont see many of them around for long.. the juice just isn't worth the squeeze.. expecially when all the other sci ships get the secondary deflector...

Cryptic destroyed science long ago. Why are you celebrating it?
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

They didn't destroy it, they just banished it to PvP land.

It's not bad. Still tweaking build though.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Pretty much this. It's a cheap vesta. If we were able to change the proton weapon it might have been interesting, but as it is, it's a cheap vesta.

On the first day, I only did the mission. I didn't start doing the Q patrol thing until the 2nd day. I suspect this is the same for most people.

One of the guys in my fleet got his yesterday withot lobi. He must have been working the 20-hour clock.

I got it this morning. I did the Q game the first day along with the mission.

It's a big step up for my Klingon. Her BOP was terrible. I'm using all protonic in front with the voth consoles, switch between cannons and beams. It's a lot of fun.

It can't touch my Breen warship, but it's nice for variety for my fed character.

I got mine last night. I haven't taken her into an ESTF yet, but that's on the agenda for today.

In terms of raw potential it is definitely a step down from my Dhelan Retrofit, but in terms of ship beauty/design....well, it feels more fun to fly than the Dhelan.
