Interesting vid, a bit strange, but thanx for doing it and attempting to promote pvp :P Although you are completely wrong saying damage means anything on ground :P
To the people against it... well give it a shot, you might actually enjoy yourself
I have tried it. I used to do it all the time waaay back when...when it was the only real way to level a KDF character. It got real old when some of the more 'dedicated' pvp crowd would use exploits to win (not mechanics working as they were supposed to at the time, but things that had unintended consequences). Add in the behavior of people who thought that winning a virtual match somehow elevated them to...something, and gave them the mistaken impression that they were sufficiently awesome to denigrate everyone else.
Aside from that, doing the same maps over and over, got just as repetitive as any PvE.
I have PvPed in other games that did it better, or were dedicated to PvP. PvP here was always a sideshow, and not the main event.
Lol many trekkies have only played sto and doesn't know what they are talking about.
Anyway, pvp is dead, like this "game". And no, childs doesnt play this game, mostly nerd old men that likes to collect lock boxes, fill their reputation proyects, and dress their virtual barbies. But of course, they like to talk about maturity.
Pot calling kettle. This is pot calling kettle. We have an update regarding your coloration, over.
A lot of people need to get over themselves, seriously.
Ok you PvP, great so do I.
Ok you PvE, great so do I
None of yall are special snowflakes, so quit crying at the other party saying they are the cause of everything.
The whole game is busted balancewise. No one camp has a shiny clean slate either, quite frankly I find threads like this to not only be complete stupid, but also completely pointless and divides the whole playerbase.
Especially for those of us that do BOTH THINGS EQUALLY AND EQUALLY WELL.
it really grinds my gears when me, a person that fought their TRIBBLE off to get faw fixed via testing and constant posting to the devs for the PvE community, gets thrown into the camp that gets things "nerfed"
No. I work towards getting things fixed. You think I like it when my stuff gets screwed up cause of X Y or Z?
No, so get over yourselves, both PvP and PvE elitists. Seriously, it got old 10 years ago in other games, and its well tiring here as well.
Also, OP, if any of these people wanted to PvP they would. PvP is its own thing and those of us that partake in it, will. It takes a thick skin at times and not everyone has it. A simple word or mock can ruin someones entire experience forever. Dont expect to come to the masses looking for people to shoot at, theyd be in the queues with you already.
Encourage with a channel or avenue and they will come, but dont go bugging them.
I, for one, thank you for your efforts (as well as all the others who do the same). Without serious player involvement, things don't get addressed or are addressed in a manner detrimental to the players. Developers don't magically have a wand to figure things out, because many things don't show up in the numbers.
I don't hate or denigrate the PvP community, it's just not one I am a part of. We are all part of the STO community, and I think we all want to improve the game so everyone can enjoy it.
I revisit this thread and I see how people are acting...
Who ordered the fire at will?
Seriously guys, this was a simple enticement to PvE players, not a parade. Stop acting so childish and throwing this thread off topic.
It's not like beam fire at will. It's more of a case of beam overload or cannon rapid fire while having aggro. :P
He has made such enticements before, and with the same results. While it's commendable to be passionate about something, poking at someone over and over can be annoying.
PVP? No. Never again. Tried over and over again when I first started. space and ground. Grew really tired really quick of showing up and having multiple people pounce me over and over again.
Other than one match, every match was so unbalanced it wasn't funny, and the one that was well balanced took so long that every one just left with the match unfinished.
The Devs have stated (as mentioned in another post) that they could yank PVP and it would barely even register as gone. I for one am for driving a stake through the heart of the current format, cutting off its head, stuffing a rose in its mouth, and burying it a crossroads at midnight, then nuking it from orbit... just to be sure.
But that is just me. Your mileage may vary. For me, a bonus of 100,000 refined dil per match wouldn't be worth the waste of time.
If they cook up a different mechanic, I'll give it another shot then.
Attention! I hereby declare to the entire community- no, the entire WORLD, that I refuse to partake in Star Trek Online Player vs Player content! Thank you for your time.
Does it seem to anybody else like there's been a lot of threads these past few weeks trying to get people interested in PVP? Is there some kind of pyramid scheme that launched? For every 5 fresh meat you recruit to the PVP community you get 100 zen?

No, not really.
For it to be a pyramid scheme, you'd have threads created by someone then threads created by people they recruited, then more from people those people recruited.
What we got here is more like one zealot pushing an agenda...and pushing it hard. More like a one-man "Harass disinterested PvE people about PvP thread of the month club." He's gonna make PvPers out of as many of us as he can, and to hell with whether we want to or not. Like "Chinese Water Torture," he'll keep making threads until he wears us down.
(And still some people wonder why he gets the backlash...er..."response" that he gets. )

Good way of putting it. The more he tries to push, the more ya'll are gonna push back.
Hell, if anything he is hurting the chances of people wanting to PvP because he paints a bad picture of PvPers. Some might consider a lot or all PvPers to be like this guy (just look at the many replies he gets in these threads), and simply say no because they don't want to be around that.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
You can't stereotype the entire PvP playerbase just because they get bugs fixed. Every person in the game is different in the same way that every person in a given country is different. Judging an entire group on a stereotypical clause is completely unbecoming of a Star Trek fan.
PvErs only bring up issues that negatively affect them. If it weren't for PvP players reporting bugs on the positive side; such things might never get brought to the devs attention.
I think you proved my point quite nicely... You are indeed one of the people I was talking about in the post I quoted... Further strengthening that opinion.
Should I mention that Cryptic plans to place some heavy emphasis on improving PvP over the course of the next year? The shuttle PvP queue was only the beginning. There's nothing you can do about it, we are here to stay .
Heard that before...
And I still think PvP needs to get lost...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Good way of putting it. The more he tries to push, the more ya'll are gonna push back.

I wouldn't say that he paints a bad picture. He simply tries to drum up enthusiasm for pvp amongst those who don't participate in it. That in and of itself isn't a bad thing. The problem isn't his efforts so much, since in most other games he might have more success.
The problem, in my view, is that the PvP community at large has in inadvertently painted itself into a corner, and completely alienated the PvE community at large. PvP has many balance issues that need addressing. Add in Cryptic's ignoring PvP with little to no effort on their part at improving it in any way. And then there is the small group of PvPers that take satisfaction in making any PvP experience for anyone else a very unpleasant one (this is the group that does the best job of driving people away). Then you also have the natural group of people who are not competitive and don't enjoy fighting other players, which an IP like Star Trek would naturally attract. All this creates attitudes that become set in stone, and any effort to change them without a huge shift in mechanics, is doomed to fail. Even if there was a gigantic shift in how PvP works, there would still be a huge emotional hurdle that would need to be cleared.
So while I think that a good honest promotion of pvp is not bad (encouraging good, honest, competitive game play is always good), it's pretty much pointless. As a result threads like this always turn out like they do.
I'm mostly a PVE person. But Ground PVP has always been my favorite. And is the only PVP I've actually participated in since early 2011.
I don't know why that is, but there's just something intrinsically more engaging about ground PVP in this game.
Also when I get steamrolled in ground PVP I don't really care about it. Like I just don't get upset. So losing isn't a big deal. Making the overall thing that much more fun.
And finally, in my time in ground PVP I've been able to vaporize BOTH Dan Stahl and Stormshade (granted they killed me too). So nothing moving forward will ever compete with that.

Thank you, and I agree. The lack of participation by the majority of the community is caused by the wicked and malicious play style of the pvp community. If they would relax things would get better, but they don't know how.

That is something that will never change, it happens in all the games with PvP, always just few players mess it up for the rest of the PVPers.
