I know, I know. Asking which Vesta is best might as well be like asking which canon captain is your favorite...but hear me out.
I want to take advantage of the ship sale ending tomorrow (And due to real life complications, I basically have another...8 hours to make the buy or I'm getting none of it). I did take advantage of the bonus Zen sale, so I have enough funds to buy a Vesta.
Problem is, which one. And before anyone goes advertising the bundle, I just want to ask - how does the bundle work, do you unpack just one ship at a time, or do you have to do all three simultaneously?
Little background on me, to help the discussion. I'm an ENG Captain whose focus and ships of choice have been (obviously) Science Vessels. Because of my skill builds and choices in equipment, I have good to excellent survivability, but I could use a little extra DPS across the board to actually feel like I'm contributing and not just pecking away at things.
And yes, I've heard most of the stuff already - I have a Plasmonic Leech console I plan on using on the ship, as well as plans to grab some Scorpion Fighters for the hangar bay to further boost my DPS (though I may swap that out with Delta Flyers for their ability to strip shields w/Tachyon Beam).
My playstyle is flexible - usually I like to hang out somewhere between 5km and max range between the target, firing away, but I have no problems going right at the enemy and giving them all the guns they can stand until I come back around for another run.
I was originally thinking Eng Vesta, for the extra Eng console which would either be the Vesta Eng Universal, or Ablative Hull Armor for the bonus to DR.
For the record, my usual favorite targets are Borg & Tholians, so a focus into how to tune a Vesta into a killer of either (or both) species would be great. Thank you.

The way the bundle works is that you will get three boxes in your inv. you then open it like any other box. when you get the bundle it also unlock the individual vesta in the c-store too.
Like the above guy said you get all three in shiny boxes and you can un box one at a time, or unbox all of them jack their consoles and weapons, then dismiss all but the one you want.
And then if you change your mind and want to try a seperate one you can re-claim it from the c-store or through the shipyard. It will also provide all three account wide for FED toons.
Go for the Bundle worst buyers remorse is buying one and then wanting the other two later and end up shelling out 75 when you could have saved yourself 25.

Bundle is good, really good, and worth it if you at all can do so. If you can't, depends what you want to do with it.
For pure science, the Vesta-class Surveillance Explorer gives you 5 science consoles and IMHO has the best of the three consoles with the AOE heal. Standard Vesta is what my science character uses, figuring if you're going to do science, do science!
Alternately, the Aventine-class Recon Explorer gives you a bit more damage and a bit less science, making a good sci-scort combo but not quite as focused as the Vesta. The Phaser console it comes with is cool but ultimately the usual gimmick console, kinda neat but ultimately too long a CD and the space better spent on something else. On the plus side, personally I find the Aventine the best looking of the three, but thats just me.
I'd pass on the Rademaker as a stand-alone though. Diverting to engineering doesn't use either of the Vesta's strengths as a science ship or offensive platform (relative to other science ships anyways), and is just so jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. Plus the console is not only gimmicky but a pretty lame gimmick, and the top it all off the ship is just ugly to boot.
I'd reiterate 3-pack if at all possible. If that simply isn't an option, then at the very least NOT the Rademaker. Then you only have to decide if you want to be pure science or science-dps hybrid.
Thanks for the help, guys. I went with the (overwhelming) recommendation of the 3-pack. Just one other question - do you keep the DHCs, and pair those with stuff like Turrets and other cannons, or do you switch out for Arrays & DBBs so you can use the integrated Subsystem Targeting that comes with all Science ships? The Aux DHCs sound alright...but then you're essentially limited to phasers if you want maximum ability.

Don't have the vesta pack[WANT IT BADLY] but why get rid of the dual heavies? I mean they fire from you Aux level. Crank them and your weapon energy to as high as it will go and you got one hell of a build.
Star Trek Battles member. Want to roll with a good group of people regardless of fleets and not have to worry about DPS while doing STFs? Come join the channel and join in the fun!
Personally, I don't use the Aux DHCs. Currently, all three of them are sitting in my bank, because I have the benefit of having the space for them there in case I ever do want to try them out again.
The major problem with the DHCs, in my opinion, is they limit you to phasers, as you stated, which, to be honest, if the Vesta universal consoles had a quicker cooldown or did more damage it'd make a phaser build worth it; however, that's just not the case.
I run my Vesta, science variant, at full AUX and Shield with 50% to weapons for the beam arrays I carry. My primary source of damage are torpedos and my science abilities. This is really where the Vesta shines, in my usage anyway.
There are many variations you can try with your Vesta and, in the end, it really does simply come down to a matter of what you are looking for in your build. Since you have the 3-pack, try the consoles out and the DHCs as well. If you like it, stick with it. If you don't, throw something else on it and try again.
I'm sitting here with my shiny new 3-pack, as well as the 2 Extra Ship Slots I purchased with leftover Zen, and I was thinking along the lines of something like this.
Aventine (Tac Vesta) - I have a set of Polaron Beam Arrays that were sitting in my Bank without any use whatsoever (I used them when I was experimenting with weapon setups for my RSV), and they're [Acc]x3 modded. I was thinking of putting those, plus a couple of torpedo launchers, onto this ship, and swapping out the Phaser DHCs and the Universal gimmick console.
Sci-Vesta - I opened a series of Tholian lockboxes recently, and I happened to get a bunch of Phased Tetryon Beam Arrays from those boxes. I was thinking of putting those onto the Sci Vesta, since I was planning on adding a Flow Capacitor console, since I have 5 now, and I know Tetryon weapons benefit from Flow Capacitors...
On a more general note, is the Vesta better suited to one type of attack tactic than another? Or can it do frontal cannons as well as broadsides?
It can broadside like a cruiser or it can mount cannons and turn like an escort. But either way it's still a sci ship. So make sure you have survivability along side your offensive capabilities.
On my Eng in the sci Vesta, I use beams... Adv Fleet Antiproton beams.
My Sci & Tac alts run the tac Vesta: the sci with Disruptor beams & the tac with phaser cannons
Couple of questions I've got for the fleet. I'm going over various consoles I want to mount on my ship. One is Flow Capacitors - I know they affect power drain abilities. Does that mean they would boost the -25 to all Subsystem drains of the Polaron proc? Two - I've got enough Lobi for the Tachyokinetic Converter. Worth it, or not?

1) I put in 6 points into Flow Capacitors and use the Dyson MK XII purple flow capacitor for fun (GW3 gets epic with enough of the Dyson sci consoles) plus they boost the Plasmonic Leech. Not sure about the power boost for Polaron procs...
If you are running a science ship build with something that is improved by Graviton Generators, then the Tachyokinetic Converter is worth the lobi. However, if you are running a drain build, you aren't going to get much out of the console.
Alright. I'm working out the weapons on my ships - trying mainly for Mk XII Blue or Purple - preferably with at least [Acc]x2 - but ATM, I'm rolling around with the various console setups I have for my ship.
Tac Vesta
2 Eng - RCS Accelerator; 1 Chosen Hull Plating
4 Sci - Emitter Array; Emitter Amplifier; Field Generator; Tachyokinetic Converter
4 Tac - 2x Energy Type Booster; Nukara Console; Plasmonic Leech
Sci Vesta
2 Eng - RCS Accelerator; 1 Chosen Hull Plating
4 Sci - Emitter Array; Emitter Amplifier; Field Generator; Tachyokinetic Converter; Gimmick Console/Flow Capacitor/Graviton Generator
3 Tac - Energy Type Booster; Nukara Console; Plasmonic Leech
Anything regarding these setups? Advice? Things I'm doing horribly wrong?
Just pciked these up the other day cause i was tooling about in my intrepid and said TRIBBLE it.
Decided to run the Strategic.
I threw my Fleet mine neutroniums with + turn on them, Dear god it turns like a shuttle at full speed i have 29.6 turn rate.
I could use cannons easy but i chose to keep running my antiproton beams.
The ship is pretty amazing, it out damages and out survives my oddy and that has roughly the same setup. I certainly grabbed my fill of sci powers though.

The Adv Fleet Antiproton beams do work nicely, don't they?
How is your damage on GW3? I have 100 aux, 50 weapons, 25 on shields and engines for power & noticed it really helps become quite epic.
 I dont have GW3!
Can't get a fleet mate on at the right time for it (and dont trust strangers)
I run at 100 Weapons (sits at 125) 30 aux and Eng (sits at about 60+) and i think 50 Shields (sits at about 80+)
I'll maunally post my build as sto academy isnt loading right for me.
Shields are a Resilient Adaptive {resB} [cap] x2 and some such
Deflector is another fleetie majigger.
Same with my warp core Mk 12 super awesomesauce.
My engines are actually the Dyson ones cause they are really grand.

Consoles are 3x Mine Neutroniums +turn

i have my ens uni as an eng (right so weird) he drops the EPtS1
i have a Lt. Eng dropping EPtW1 and Aux2Sif1

I run with two of the aux DHCs on my Vesta. Quantum torpedo fill the front,KCB, Solanae array (that does support subsystem targeting! Omega torpedo to round out the set. Max aux to power cannons and sci skills, KCB is near torpedo damage against bare hull even at 68 power and Solanae array is passable as a. "Turret" with the warp core. Warp core also helps aux with the 135 cap.
I also use the full Vesta set, deflector phaser works just often enough for transformers in. ISE, kinetic reflector useful against one shot torps, and the heal field saves lives or gives me first place during crystalline entity.
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

i currently have the Aventine and pretty much love that ship but i will buy the eng one couse yeh vesta refit
Shoulda got the 3-pack. This is why i always advocate 3-pack buys if you want one. I bought one Oddy and then wanted the others later on, worst regret was not getting the 3-pack all at once.

Never been big with beams on the vesta, I use the aux cannons just to keep my aux power high. This allows more damage with the cannons and the abilities like gravity well and tractor beam. I have tried it, but always went back to the aux cannons. I do lose the target sub system ability, but I hardly ever use them.
