Dragged kicking and screaming into the new millennium along with the rest of us? Can you imagine how messed up the internet would be if some people were still running win3.0? I dropped the few dollars to upgrade my XP to 7 months ago, and the game runs fine for me, I still have a few minor bugs. I'd wager that most of the game problems would clear up for people if they would just upgrade to 7 along with the rest of society. Might help if the game clearly stated that it no longer is completely compatible with XP, for it obviously is not.
Rather than encounter frustration with the game, I have chosen to wait for the patches to fix the new problems. This game is obviously never gonna be completely bug-free, so I choose to learn to live with it, rather than stroke out over it. Been there, done that, learned my lesson.
XP runs STO just fine though - that's not the problem here.
To the original poster:
You're running XP, which Service Pack?
You say you forced Direct X 10 on, try removing it and reinstalling 9.0c, the last DX officially supported on XP by Microsoft.
What processor do you have, single core, dual, quad, more?
How much RAM? If you have less than 4GB, you'll likely need to make sure you have nothing else running.
What video card, which driver?
What's your internet connection type and speed?
Are you perhaps getting lots of dropped packets so the game never loads because your ISP is filtering traffic
Done a virus/spyware/rootkit scan lately?
Which version of the game do you have installed, downloaded separately, through ARC, through steam? Yeah they should all be the same but...
XP32, sp3, 4GB, AMD Phenom II quadcore, nvidia 760, arc version of game, not launched via arc, 20MBit cable - no login issues here whatsoever,
Lots of graphical glitches since season 8, but quitting and restarting cures those - temporarily at least.
There is no need to roll back the patch. they have fixed most of the bugs that are preventing STO players from logging in. they have 2 more bugs to work on. be paitent.. they WILL fix these bugs.
@OP: I'd like to say you're making an ueber-silly, egocentrical request. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble running the game, but others (like yours truly) are, overall, quite happy with Season 8, thank you! And honestly, asking everyone to downgrade with you, just because YOU can't run things, well, it doesn't come more egocentrical than that!
If you couldn't play the game because of it you wouldn't say that.
How about uninstalling the game. Run a register cleaner like CCleaner or Glary Utilities. Run a full update of your OS and needed drivers. Reinstall the game, let it update and try it then.
OK, if I have to stay here for a while, your cieling ... looks idious.:D
If you couldn't play the game because of it you wouldn't say that.
Yeah, I kinda still would. I know, as I have been in situations where I couldn't play the MMO I was most active on before. You know why? Because I knew that even though I couldn't enjoy it at the time, other players are. And that even if the content update itself was causing my inability to play, not only did I want the game to keep the update, but I was looking forward to the time where I could play the game with the update implemented.
And even if I hadn't experienced what you have, I still have empathy for the other players that are enjoying the content update right now.
Besides, the content update itself probably isn't the actual cause of you not being able to play. It's most likely your computer's incompatibility with an aspect of the update that does have the chance of being resolved without the game being rolled back.
Additionally, it is not only very selfish to want an entire game rolled back because you can't play, it is illogical to assume that someone that claims that they do not share your viewpoint on this issue never went through the same situation, or else they would have the same viewpoint.
Reinstall + ccleaner and stuff are you serious?! Since when is the holofeck a tribble like Server and Players are Beta testers now?! It was a rushed out patch and thats the main concern here!!!
That's the thing: I've done all that. Updated Direct X, performed several clean installs of the game (I have CC Cleaner and I'm skilled in regedit-ing), updated my video card drivers, full system and hardware updates. I even installed a XP-TRIBBLE version of Direct X 10 (which I later removed).
Nothing worked.
The only answer here is a rollback. Yes, they suck... but better they rollback now then, say, three to four weeks from now when they fail to find a fix. I'd rather lose two weeks of play then a month of play.

Whatever... when it happens to you, I'll remember to remind you of this conversation...
Actually a roll-back could make things worse for everyone. Its not like Windows X were you can just do a system restore. The services consists of multiple layers and they have patched right the way through the stack.
That is why we are seeing so many new and old bugs appearing. I doubt they could actually roll back successfully because of the complexity of their systems.
However, that all said, I doubt a roll back would even be considered as viable because of the people that HAVE been able to login and invest time climbing the Dyson Sphere reps.
I do wish they'd find a fix for those that cant login though. I hate the thought of others not able to enjoy something they obviously love so much.
More haste, less speed Cryptic. Get it sorted for them please.
You might as well be asking me to buy a new computer. This is NOT an option.
That may be, but MS DX11 is Win7 and/or Win8 only. WinXP support/functionality for DX ends at version 9.0c.

No, that's AN answer and a very poor one.
YOU are affected, so you want everyone who wasn't affected to lose everything they've done for the last couple weeks just because you can't log in?
You haven't done everything you could to rectify the problem since you haven't reinstalled the game, nor have you given any details whatsoever about your system to help in suggestions.
You installed a TRIBBLE version of direct-X 10, which was never intended to work on WinXP.
You say you uninstalled it, but did you actually get all of it gone.
We don't know if you're using stable video drivers or betas or anything else because you haven't shared any details about your system.
Sorry, but until you've taken every possible step to rectify the problem from your end, a server rollback is not in any way justified, and frankly I can't see cryptic doing it.
yeah server rollbacks have happened in other MMOs, SUBSCRIBER based MMOs, not cash store MMOs.
What happens if they rollback 2 weeks, what happens with all those cash store sales, with all those zen sales that are now deleted?
All of those would have to be restored, and even then, someone who spent $50 on keys and opened 50 boxes and got lucky and got some good ships and other loot isn't guaranteed to get them again even if he gets his $50 of keys back.
I'm running XP, and I'm having no problems, but then I didn't installed TRIBBLE drivers.
You did, so as far as I can tell (or anyone else, since you've shared exactly zero details other than you used TRIBBLE drivers) the problems you're having are your fault.
Reinstall the game already, and use a cleaner to make sure you have removed all traces of the TRIBBLE stuff YOU installed on your system.
If that doesn't work, you might have to go the whole route an reinstall the whole OS.
Roll back. Nooooo... Unfortunately for others, but things works fine for me. No gamebreaking bugs or graphical issues. -other than the usual ones that is, tailor and clipping, nimbus pathfinding, occasional stf-ctd and trolls.
I still haven't had an issue logging into the game. If anyone using windows 8 is having problems, there's your problem. Windows 8 doesn't run anything good. I run windows 7 premium home edition 64bit. The problem isn't with cryptic or sto, its your os or your computer.
I still cannot log in to STO since the Season 8 patch. The game crashes during the Cryptic loading screen and loads a cryptic error report window.
I have tried everything from logging in safe mode to disabling my firewall and antivirus. Forced verify doesn't help. This occurs both when I use Arc and the .exe file in the STO folder to try to access game play.
I have performed a clean reinstall of the game with no luck.
I request a full rollback of the game to the point prior to Season 8.
Anyone that has been around knows that This is nothing new.
Every season a few people experience slightly different problems which makes the game unplayable. Every time it has to do with specific graphics cards or batch of them.
Last year I was unable to play STO after the launch of season 7 for two weeks. It had to do with graphics being unstable with my latest version of my graphics driver. I had to back date my graphics driver for a work around until they worked out their bugs. Others had issues because they were not running the most recent versions of their graphics card driver. But after a while work a round were found and bugs were finally fixed.
Remember every graphics card that is out there is like a doctor that went to a different college. Sure they all have the basics, but they know it just a little bit differently. When you throught he drivers into that each version being a translator that learned how to speak the language a little differently from the last. You are bound to run into issues when addressing all of them at once.
Although you think you are a great majority.. in fact you are not. How do I know this, well i am in three EXTREMELY active fleets with all with very active TS's (20-40 people on at night) and though most have enjoyed the kaleidoscope none have experienced the issue you are talking about.
Power through it and look for ways around it (driver/direct x changes) until the dev's can address each issue. The one great thing is evently they will fix it.
As for a Rollback ... well it will never happen. EVER. Rollbacks are only for game breaking SERVER WIDE issues, and then only when vast majority of the people playing have been given such a advantage that the game may never recover. IE never winter exploit. I have only seen MMORPG's use this as a absolute last resort because wiping out a weeks worth of work by members (not to mention purchases /etc) would cause far far far more problems then a few members not being able to play for this short time.

So, yeah, no.
ROLL THE WORTHLESS SEASON 8 UPDATE BACK!
This getting old, trying to login and having the game crash at the loading screen.
What the hell did you do to the game with Season 8? It's unplayable now.
Yeah, no.
