Hi all, if you have been following the PublicEliteSTF channel over the last few weeks you will have noticed a drastic change in the way players have been conducting themselves. From the typical chatter bugs to the trolls and name callers to the, well lets just say dirty minded, have all changed the function of the channel. Use to be you needed a stf run you just go to channel and have your choice of multiple teams to join but as of late, you are now faced with others points of views, who belongs in channel or not and other topics of non interest. During the day light hours (EST) its still not bad for getting in the stfs runs you want but after the midnight hour it totally changes. You have to wade thru countless topics of chat waiting for just 1 or 2 teams to form. Everyone says just use the ignore option but that don't help with the formations of teams, making it a slower process for which the channel was not set up for. Personally I would like to see some channel admin. do their job and enforce some the basic rules that were set up to make this channel enjoyable but that's just me. Would love to hear your opinions and suggestions to correct this before the channel goes totally to TRIBBLE! Thanks all.

but its hell of alot quicker than setting up a team and waiting on everyone.
In fact, we did a ground one, which is new to me, and I stunk it up. Now I am feeling super bad because I never touch ground and this is pestf.
unfortunately the channel can be rather harsh to new players at times but you tube has some videos you can check out so you can see what your in for before you jump in.

although your whole comment was pretty much bang on, I found this rather amusing and I know of one guy that suddenly jumps to mind. In honor of him I've decided to rename my chat tab from PESTF to AVZ
I talked to wildchild8 in game plenty of times. He is just another player, that made a chat channel that got popular. I doubt a majority of PESTF knows who he is.
I support the idea of a free chat channel, where we can call games and talk about whatever TO A POINT. Playing is this a chick or a guy, and linking stupid pictures, is UNCALLED FOR in the game and is a VIOLATION of the ToS. Something we all agreed when we joined the game.
People FORGET it may be an MMO, which is not rated MATURE. And a channel as POPULAR as this cannot have a sub standered policy that allows BASICIALLY ERPING IN OPEN PUBLIC.
If the kids fall into astartes attention grabbing, thats they're problem. As you can tell by the response here PESTF is the lesser of two evils. Astarte obviously has an ego to stroke... some will stroke it. I cannot hionestly say i have ever seen Astarte be in violation of the ToS in the channel, because she/he has been on my ingore list now for sometime, could have been a long time... i dont know.
With that said,
I SUPPORT the IDEA behind PESTF, it is a chat channel. Why can't we chat when looking for a game, or ask about builds?
THE most EPIC thing people are forgetting is, IF this is where the trolls, griefers, flamers, and general DESPOTS of the game go... PLEASE USE THE REPORT TO GM FUNCTION.
I encourage people to START reporting PLAYERS when they OBVIOUSLY break the ToS.

Me personally, hiring astarte as an op was a spit in the face to the image of the channel, but whatever. If he is that poor of an operator, owner to do that to his own channel.... yah, its going to hurt the channel, thats on him. He is the owner. He in the end makes those desiscions.

Honeslty, except with the attention wh*** of the channel, who think it was created for her, and keep talking about drugs, someone's TRIBBLE size (15cm in this case), and weird hentai, the channel is nice. Except for some idiots, people was helpful and not elitist. The only rules was to know the optional, which is not elitism. Also, the channel feature an explanation about eSTF, and optional, if you don't know.
I don't pug anymore. If you say you never have problem by pugging, you are either a liar, or the most lucky person in STO, and if I was you, I would open boxes upon boxes, as I would be likely to open a ship in each of them. I think about 60-70% of the pug I've done went bad. People not remodulating, full of injuries, or making the optional even harder as it is. Several times I even arrived in an already started STF, optional failed, with half the team struggling against an endless army of borgs.
And I'm not even talking about Kumari beam boat, rainbow boat, ships that does less DPS than my carrier pets...

I fully agree with you. if someone is breaking the ToS, report it to GM.
If someone is breaking the rules of the channel and not necessarily the ToS, report it to a channel op. If there isn't one around - and I can't stress this enough - take a screenshot.
Seriously, I can't stress that one enough. If a channel op is to issue a strike, or mute someone, they have to be able to back it up to Reuben with proof. It prevents the ops from haphazardly muting people on a whim.
We will not mute or issue strikes to people for banter in between games. We will if the player's conduct breaks the channel rules. We will not do so unless we witness it, or we receive screenshots - otherwise it's all just 'he said, she said'. It's entirely possible that this thread doesn't happen if someone had taken a screen.
That being said, the channel has been much quieter in the last couple of days.

I'll let you in on a little secret, though.... pugging is actually advantagious. When I'm in a bad pug, I'm often still walking away with like 90 Mark and 11 Neural processors. Why? Because in a bad team, the game thinks you did awesome, and rewards you accordingly! So it's all good.
Oh, what the heck, I'll let you in on another secret... pug *outside* bonus hours! (Sic!) I found the quality of the team usually a lot better. Why? Because bonus hour tends to attract too many folks who aren't necessarily good, but really still *need* the Marks, as opposed to more seasoned peeps who just want to pick up some extra gear (or simply because the game offers them little else to do).

That was always Cryptic's goal, and I applaud it, that players create chat and Foundry content.
But the flip side, and Cryptic I'm afraid must take this into account, that some chat channels/services are indispensable player resources. By definition, asking players to contribute content means that those content/services are now critical to Player User Experience.

Cryptic could create the same sort of zero-pleasure zero-social play zones - why get into an elite ESTF zone when you can't even learn about the other "experts" that were invited in.
For example Cryptic could set up their own REDALERT-style announcement system that blocks player input.
But they don't for good reason. So the next questions is, why pretend that player-supported resources are no less critical to their product's value.

I have to say, I'm still in that channel but I almost never use it anymore.
The modding in that channel literally went delirious with rules and restrictions - and the channel grew quieter and less used as a result.

The less a person has invested in reality, the more insane they are to be in a virtual environment. University grad students are the most perfect example of "stockholm prison guards".
I've seen this in play since "massive" meant ten people dialing in on 1200 baud modems.

I support the moderators, and the channel, i watch it, and i use it. I do NOT turn it off because i like to call games, as well as JOIN games. I utilize the channel for it purposes.
I ask questions, and sometimes i do partake in the chit chatting going on.
I DO NOT tolerate "semi" TRIBBLE talk, or talk about hard core donkey shows, and reference to peoples Genitalia....
I support Wildchild8 because he is the only person i have EVER seen in ANY ( for STF's/events etc ) channel promote games, and get them flowing. That and he seems like a generally happy fellow.
What i do NOT support, is toxic TRIBBLE, some kids or my own children, may read.
THAT being sad, wildchild8 hired more help, thats a good enough step for me to continue to support the channel.
I personally wont join games that have a call name of some ones genitalia ( WHICH IS A TOS VIOLATION, or a sexual reference because in MY opinion, it gives the CHANNEL a bad name, and shows potential players how IMMATURE the crowd is. In the END it RUINS the fun, I AM trying to have. Thats MY opinion.
It is NOT about silencing members, or trapping them into a ToS violation, or is it about being kicked. Or even demoting operators or admints, because they like to have fun.
The Moderation team should only need to say hey, please dont do that or hey please change the subject. Or reference a link to the rules.
If wildchild8 was smart, he would familiarize himself with the terms of service, and make his rules based around them, with a STERN warning, if you get a ToS violation do NOT come to the moderation team, or him.
Basically, all he would need to do in his rules thread, whichever he uses ( i see a couple threads on it, plus another off the forums ) is say hey, DO NOT VIOLATE the ToS, after that, anything goes. And add "if a moderation team member gets "proof" in screenshot of a violation of terms of service, you may be muted, or removed from the channel.
That would kill people that like to pull the elitist TRIBBLE, by bullying, or trolling.
No HEAVY Trolling is a little vague, because i consider heavy trolling in poor form of a troll.
In reality if it was me, a POOR troll would have a better chance of getting the "boot" per say, then someone who can use skill to shut an idiot down.

And in the end, the REAL owners of the chat channel are Cryptic, if it needed to be killed because it was out of everyonend anyone control, they would do it, these channels are a GREAT asset in the game. But it doesnt mean they have to be used for a getaway from a violation of the ToS.

You say it's fine, except for drugs. Well, technically, you said "light conversations are allowed", which is really vague.

You promote to chan moderator several people, including the one being pointed as the main troublemaker by some. Which is obviously a "STFU or GTFO", or a polite version of "F*** Y**".
People never complained about the lack of moderators, at least in the messages I read, but about the idle chat occuring on the channel, including a lot of flood. None of them asked for dictatorship rules, just a bit more STF, or STO talks, and a bit less penises.

Constructive feedback is welcome.... nothing mentioned bar we need to fix fights on channel (done) has been constructive.... a lot has completely missed the bigger picture.
OK lemme put it to you this way... I've run the channel for a looooooooong time, myself and the admin team have seen it grow.... We know the channels quirks and flow more then any. Anything you think of here, we've already thought of and considered long ago.... this is what we do.... if it was beneficial we probably would have already implemented it....
(I note we're not the first large STF chanel, ESTF predates us, but lessons learned from ESTF of how to do it ie. run lots of games and not to do it ie kick half your player base for silly reasons, helped form the core rules of PESTF)
The community at the time recognised what we were trying to do. How we do it coupled with the over whelming support of the community is the reason we've managed to make PESTF a success when others have tried/remained small or failed.
The rules as they stand were not compiled on a whim...they as as they are for a reason... and working as intended.
To be simple and straight forward. The point of the channel is to find STF groups quickly... as has been well established, even by yourself, chat is not an issue on channel, groups still form quickly. That's what we're here to do. We're also here to moderate chat and stop fights and arguments. This is now taken care of again.
Amendments to the main channel rules (ie what topics of chat are allowed and not allowed) will not be happening. Our moderators deal with situations as they happen. If certain topics at a certain time are causing a storm, we move that topic along and/or deal with the people involved as is warranted.
We are a game wide resource with many different opinions on what is acceptable and what is not, we can not cater to the whims of some over others. What we do cater to is ensuring games keep running. We're not about to impose rules on what people can chat about and exclude various members of the community who do not meet these sensibilities.
Put simply... once games are filling and there's no arguments... the channel is working as intended....

I'll let you in on a little secret, though.... pugging is actually advantagious. When I'm in a bad pug, I'm often still walking away with like 90 Mark and 11 Neural processors. Why? Because in a bad team, the game thinks you did awesome, and rewards you accordingly! So it's all good.
Oh, what the heck, I'll let you in on another secret... pug *outside* bonus hours! (Sic!) I found the quality of the team usually a lot better. Why? Because bonus hour tends to attract too many folks who aren't necessarily good, but really still *need* the Marks, as opposed to more seasoned peeps who just want to pick up some extra gear (or simply because the game offers them little else to do).
That was always Cryptic's goal, and I applaud it, that players create chat and Foundry content.
But the flip side, and Cryptic I'm afraid must take this into account, that some chat channels/services are indispensable player resources. By definition, asking players to contribute content means that those content/services are now critical to Player User Experience.
ESTF is a cesspool of political correctness. Even join flags become bannable "You used an 'x' which makes us think 'TRIBBLE' which is male oppression through pr$nography!". "Someone asked how the latest patch affects PvE - bannable we don't want approved expert members ever actually talking the reason this channel was formed!".
Cryptic could create the same sort of zero-pleasure zero-social play zones - why get into an elite ESTF zone when you can't even learn about the other "experts" that were invited in.
For example Cryptic could set up their own REDALERT-style announcement system that blocks player input.
But they don't for good reason. So the next questions is, why pretend that player-supported resources are no less critical to their product's value.
I have to say, I'm still in that channel but I almost never use it anymore.
The modding in that channel literally went delirious with rules and restrictions - and the channel grew quieter and less used as a result.
I've seen this in play since "massive" meant ten people dialing in on 1200 baud modems.
People are broken. Betting value on the masses means mass non-value.
I ask questions, and sometimes i do partake in the chit chatting going on.
I DO NOT tolerate "semi" TRIBBLE talk, or talk about hard core donkey shows, and reference to peoples Genitalia....
I support Wildchild8 because he is the only person i have EVER seen in ANY ( for STF's/events etc ) channel promote games, and get them flowing. That and he seems like a generally happy fellow.
What i do NOT support, is toxic TRIBBLE, some kids or my own children, may read.
THAT being sad, wildchild8 hired more help, thats a good enough step for me to continue to support the channel.
I personally wont join games that have a call name of some ones genitalia ( WHICH IS A TOS VIOLATION, or a sexual reference because in MY opinion, it gives the CHANNEL a bad name, and shows potential players how IMMATURE the crowd is. In the END it RUINS the fun, I AM trying to have. Thats MY opinion.
It is NOT about silencing members, or trapping them into a ToS violation, or is it about being kicked. Or even demoting operators or admints, because they like to have fun.
The Moderation team should only need to say hey, please dont do that or hey please change the subject. Or reference a link to the rules.
If wildchild8 was smart, he would familiarize himself with the terms of service, and make his rules based around them, with a STERN warning, if you get a ToS violation do NOT come to the moderation team, or him.
Basically, all he would need to do in his rules thread, whichever he uses ( i see a couple threads on it, plus another off the forums ) is say hey, DO NOT VIOLATE the ToS, after that, anything goes. And add "if a moderation team member gets "proof" in screenshot of a violation of terms of service, you may be muted, or removed from the channel.
That would kill people that like to pull the elitist TRIBBLE, by bullying, or trolling.
No HEAVY Trolling is a little vague, because i consider heavy trolling in poor form of a troll.
In reality if it was me, a POOR troll would have a better chance of getting the "boot" per say, then someone who can use skill to shut an idiot down.
In the END it is all and ONLY about having fun, and wildchilds idea about allowing EVERYBODY even trolls to enjoy the channel is just fine by me.
Even trolls need a place to go............. to an extent. If they are poor trolls and just make an idiot of themselves, the channel will handle that. The Moderation team ONLY needs to give a warning.
Idiot Elitist jerk offs on another hand are not trolls, they are just bullies. Those i ENCOURAGE everyone when they WITNESS it REPORT IT, TO WHO EVER you feel a need to.
I read somewhere in conjunction with this channel, ( could have been the rules, i am not bringing that thread up right now, due to me in game, and watching netflix, slows stuff down. ) Bad STF's WILL happen expecially when you have 4000+ members playing the games, its just a numerical equation.
Ask yourself, are you going to cry about 15 marks, and let it ruin your "fun time" or are you gonna grow a pair and move on?
And why argue about TRIBBLE in a channel? I did it in channel with wildchild8 for about 5 minutes, then i took it to the mail because i dont want annimosity with ANYBODY.
Arguing about anything in an MMO is like ARGUING on Facebook, yer just gonna let the world know your an idiot/saint, and i say that cause there is always that 50/50 different way of looking at things.
Same can be said for poor form in trolling, or being a bully. Once you are labeled as such it will ruin your game experiance.
Some of you in game may know me as Tamujiin. We can ALL be jerks at times. I have been a jerk to some people, but they were in POOR form, trying to RUIN other peoples fun and showing no respect for people.
Be glad it only came to a head with the schmexay stuff, and not totally degraded to zone where there is religion and political arguments.
And in the end, the REAL owners of the chat channel are Cryptic, if it needed to be killed because it was out of everyonend anyone control, they would do it, these channels are a GREAT asset in the game. But it doesnt mean they have to be used for a getaway from a violation of the ToS.
I support it, the channel NEEDED to be cleaned up, wildchild8 is/was working on that.
And BTW folks, the kids are going back to school, i assume it will get better if not for that reason alone.
Its an on going argument that needs to be kia boshed. I had a few people in game pm me, and mail me and TRIBBLE about this thread.

Some people use PESTF as their own channel, including talk about penises size, drugs, and TRIBBLE. Mostly because of 1 person. Some enjoy it, others doesn't, and start a thread about it.
You say it's fine, except for drugs. Well, technically, you said "light conversations are allowed", which is really vague.
People continue arguing.
You promote to chan moderator several people, including the one being pointed as the main troublemaker by some. Which is obviously a "STFU or GTFO", or a polite version of "F*** Y**".
People never complained about the lack of moderators, at least in the messages I read, but about the idle chat occuring on the channel, including a lot of flood. None of them asked for dictatorship rules, just a bit more STF, or STO talks, and a bit less penises.

Constructive feedback is welcome.... nothing mentioned bar we need to fix fights on channel (done) has been constructive.... a lot has completely missed the bigger picture.
OK lemme put it to you this way... I've run the channel for a looooooooong time, myself and the admin team have seen it grow.... We know the channels quirks and flow more then any. Anything you think of here, we've already thought of and considered long ago.... this is what we do.... if it was beneficial we probably would have already implemented it....
(I note we're not the first large STF chanel, ESTF predates us, but lessons learned from ESTF of how to do it ie. run lots of games and not to do it ie kick half your player base for silly reasons, helped form the core rules of PESTF)
The community at the time recognised what we were trying to do. How we do it coupled with the over whelming support of the community is the reason we've managed to make PESTF a success when others have tried/remained small or failed.
The rules as they stand were not compiled on a whim...they as as they are for a reason... and working as intended.
To be simple and straight forward. The point of the channel is to find STF groups quickly... as has been well established, even by yourself, chat is not an issue on channel, groups still form quickly. That's what we're here to do. We're also here to moderate chat and stop fights and arguments. This is now taken care of again.
Amendments to the main channel rules (ie what topics of chat are allowed and not allowed) will not be happening. Our moderators deal with situations as they happen. If certain topics at a certain time are causing a storm, we move that topic along and/or deal with the people involved as is warranted.
We are a game wide resource with many different opinions on what is acceptable and what is not, we can not cater to the whims of some over others. What we do cater to is ensuring games keep running. We're not about to impose rules on what people can chat about and exclude various members of the community who do not meet these sensibilities.
Put simply... once games are filling and there's no arguments... the channel is working as intended....
