According to the STO wiki I read there should be a set of new ships in the spring of 2014, unless that information is now false and/or out-dated. That would be my guess as well.
No they'll probably release plenty this year, if I remember correctly in one of the devs interviews or on 1 of their twitter pages one if them said yhst this year alone, 70 odd more ships would be getting released ( that now includes everything that's been released since the release of Legacy if Romulus) and that would take us up to a new stage for the game
When they've made more ships for the other factions to equal the huge amount more that the Fed side has over the Roms and KDF.
Hate to break it yo ya' but most players are not Rom or KDF. People have alts but most are feds, and will continue to be feds. And why should the majority have to wait on less profitable ships to come out?
But all that aside, if you truly believe that equality in ship numbers and types is at all a consideration I would guess you don't know much about marketting. We;ll probably see a few more Rom releases so they can finish capitalizing on the Xpac hype they successfully built up.
Op, I'd expect a new fed release sometime after 2 months or so, probably a little more. I expect we'll see new waves (and tiers) of ships come out before the end of the year.
While for many, Star Trek means over 47 years of Starfleet and the Federation - Cryptic did take it upon themselves to have other playable factions. They could not hope to grow the number of players playing those factions without taking steps to grow those factions.
Of course, the Romulans are new - so - that will come in time.
The KDF on the other hand - well, Cryptic has taken steps recently to grow the faction. They've lowered the starting level and even added in some additional ships to cover that start. It would only make sense that they would thus also look at adding more KDF ships for those players as they reached endgame.
The Feds have a plethora of options and many of the ships being requested are little more than fluff/vanity want to fly X ship. The KDF on the other hand - well - there are gaping holes that exist...and should be addressed.
That's not asking for the KDF to have as many ships as the Feds, but rather a case of asking that the KDF do not have so many holes...

Agreed. What the KDF needs is 2-3 more destroyer/raptor variants to provide more options in that weight class (including a 5 tac console destroyer/raptor), needs more science ships (preferably ones that don't fly like a brick), and maybe some additional flight-deck carrier options that aren't as tame as the Orion flight deck carrier we have right now. Something roughly equivalent to the Vesta or Armitage might be nice.
Fill these gaps, and you'll see considerably less complaining from KDF players, I think. I'd certainly complain less
Later this year, on into next year. Or at least, that's my understanding reading the STO Wiki. And many of them will round out the remaining "canon" Federation vessels missing from STO.
I want a new defiant class ship that I can buy for zen that comes with an ultra console that looks like a baseball so you automatically win all defend starbase missions

Sorry to burst your bubble pal, but I do know all that. And I do fully expect there to be plenty of Fed ships. The point I was trying to make is that people are always wanting more more more more more Fed ships, when we already have plenty.
Devs will go where the money is..for those of you who have been around for a while know this...not sure why some of you continue to live in your magical land of 'Hope Cryptic finally does what I want'
Feds are the breadbasket. They will milk that cow as long as theres utters to pull on.
And I will continue to play the Zen Exchange where I buy up Zen at low prices only to sell it back as high as I can when new ships and lockboxes come out.
Well we know the Klingons are getting 1 new ship and speculation is its either a 5 fore weapon slot Raptor or Battle Cruiser. I think the Raptor is more likely. Honestly I think it would be cool if it was a Battle Cruiser with 5 weapon slots that could seperate into Raptor or Science based Scout Ship. All of the KDFs holes plugged that way with one Ship!
For the Feds I see few holes, really only flight deck cruisers and battle cruisers or something truely off the wall.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

Last financial 1/4 of 2013/14 is my guess.. It would be foolish to not support the ROM alts at the moment as interest is high but simple logic shows that feds are the biggest faction on mains and to not exploit that in the last financial 1/4 makes no sense..
The only ship type i hope for would be a Good looking Destroyer type ship for Starfleet.
So far there is only the Mirror Timeship and the Chimera (which costs 200$ last time i checked). While the KDF and Rom fleets are much more focussed on those type of ships or tactical ships in general, starfleet ships have been made too defensive by cryptic IMHO.
Apart from that i agree that other factions should get a wider array of ships in general. Maybe some more Civilian/other ships acessible for all factions.
Another thing i would like to see is not more ships but more customizing options for all ships, like more hull materials, the option to scale nacelles or the ships pylons a bit.
And of course more different ship parts for already existing ships.

Yes Reyan is right it should be out somete soon, they are just finalising the last few details, and that is one ship I have been waiting for
On the fed shipyard forum I've put a thread up for a design for a future fed sci-scort (title is how to get around CBS and JJ rules) I've named it the Procyon and its real name is the Polaris but we have one named that already in game, I've basically written the story for the ship as being designed from the left over schematics and technology of the jellyfish blueprints left behind in our universe
I think it could work plus it's a nice design
Well, the Federation also has the Aquarious Destroyer, but 'good looking' is a matter of taste with that one, and it's not a particuarly effective ship overall anyway.
The person you're quoting is using the other meaning of Destroyer (the fact that Cryptic has two completely contradictory meanings of the class is a freak out for another time), the middle ground between Cruisers and Escorts.
In that respect, there are no easily available options. One could potentially argue the Armitage falls into that category, but given the hangar bay and hull/shield values I'm disinclined to agree with that assertion.

Yes, i was talking about a cruiser/Escort Hybrid. Thanks for clarifying that.
I'm sorry i wasn't accurate enough.
Maybe the devs could rework the T5 Heavy Cruiser Retrofit into a more Escort/Cruiser hybrid like ship, since its BOFF layout is too similar to the Assault Cruisers anyway.
I think it would be much better to give that ship a much more interesting and useful BOFF/Console Layout, similar to the Chimera Heavy Destroyer BOFF and Console layout.
Personally i would love to have this ship reworked, but i think it would need some good looking ship part options additionally, at least a engineering hull which doesn't have it's nacelles in a offset position and things like that.

A T5 version of the NCC-1764, right?
That is a connie and CBS said T5 connie is a no-go. Sadly.

What cannon ships are missing from STO fed side.

I. DON'T. CARE.
Seriously though, I am so sick of ships. I want something else for once.
Another thing that would be interesting, is to see something new added to the science/escort/cruiser class.

They didn't "add" those ships. They were there since launch. They just took them away for a very long time because they hate Klingon players.
As to the OP, Feds don't need any more ships. They already have more than the Rommies and KDF COMBINED.
I find it strange the Klingon K'Vort Class Bird of Prey is not in the game they should add that too. Would be nice if it has 5 Tactical Consoles.
Their are plenty of Federation ships all other sides need more. No faction in a game should have so much less stuff then another.

Xindi ships (possibly 3 pack)
Decent vulcan ships Surak class
Tellarite ships
Enterprise J
