go play eve online if you dont want a trek experience... or swtor.. this is star trek.. it is well known that it has one of the biggest fallowings, and that its fan base is pretty strict..

again, im getting sick of all you non trek fans, that have other sci fi games you can play, but want to ruin this one for us star trek fans.. (this includes the devs who seem devoted to destroying what trek essentially is...)..
Unfortunately for you we have just as much of a right to play this as Trekkies do, and just as much of a right to want things a certain way as you do.
My KDF will not be attending unless I get a plausible reason that they would be at a Federation resort world during war-time. They will continue to board and takeover Fed transports during the event.
This. It's absolutely stupid for a KDF officer to be there. Even if it's for celebration and drinking (which Klingons often enjoy), there's supposed to be a war going on and Risa's a Fed planet. Klingons should get their own event, if anything. But wait, they are Klingons, so who cares.
If this game stuck to canon from the beginning I doubt you would see it here now Scifi/Trekkie lite fans are most likely the ones keeping this game alive.
Trekkie's are the ones that ultimately let the TV shows die by rejecting Enterprise, the prime universe movies died off also due to falling numbers of people going to watch them.
Now we have the alternate universe movies that are made for every ones enjoyment and they seem widely successful plus we have this game that seems to be doing ok, but it knows when to bend.... or drop kick canon out the window to draw in the wider audience/playerbase.
Canon is not the be all and end all, the universe will not implode if it is not followed exactly as you think it should.

Fact for the idiots, Earth exists in star trek, hawaii is on Earth, Go figure out the rest yourself.........
And the complaints about new ships, that's the worst one, TECHNOLOGY ADVANCES believe it or not.....If i made a new Version of the Ford Escort, would that be non-canon in real life because it didn't exist before?

yes, but i dont go and hop into say, neverwinter, and demand that i be able to beam up to a starship.. or that i have a phaser.. i take it for what it is when i play.. it is a part of the forgotten realms series, and while i am playing that game, i respect the culture that the fan base and books have built.. (not saying its 100 percent accurate, i wouldnt know, i only read the r.a. salvatore side of forgotten realms). but i dont try to change the "canon", nor do i complain about any part of the culture..
this is what i have seen since this game went free to play.. all the non trek fans, who want a free game to play, who dont care about the star trek genre, or the culture, came in and the game started taking turns for the worse.. now.. im not a stickler for canon, i understand functionality, and making it fun.. but there is some pretty silly sh*t that has been introduced into this game, which makes me feel like cryptic is cheapening, and showing a disrespect for the genre..
im not saying that you non fans cant play.. im saying that if you dont like the way star trek is portrayed, then jog off and find another sci fi game.. the same as i would if i didnt like another game that was built atop a specific genre...

first off, elitist.. ummm, when did i say i knew more than anyone.. thats right.. no where.. dont know where that came from.. i simply stated that this is star trek.. that has a long history, and ways of doing things.. to do it any differently, is not star trek.. it is something else.. if they wanted to call this game "Sci Fi pew pew that kinda resembles star trek online" then i wouldnt say anything.. but its not.. it is called star trek online.. and way back in the day, when this game was being introduced to us, it was said that it would fallow the existing rules and what not closer than any other game did.. but then again, they said the c store would have cosmetics only.. so i guess i should have learned my lesson there... but, i never said anything to elicit a response like that..

it wasn't fully aimed at you, it was aimed at hard-core Trekkies in general
And i noticed you said about non-fans who want a free game, i play this game because i like Star Trek and i like a fun game. i have put at least (Apparently pounds is not a legit currency in Crypticland)->?100 into the C-store by now
If you got canon TRIBBLE complaining left right and center, where is the fun? it's a Game, it's supposed to be FUN.
And in all honesty, you hardcores killed star trek, it took all the people who are not easily wound up about lore to bring it back to life (The 2 new movies and this game)

no, cause i live by the motto, adversity breads innovation, well that and act like a ***** get slapped like a ***** lol...
im not saying that non trek opinions shouldnt matter, but when the devs are creating the game, they should strive incorperate your idea, in a trek manner.. which is severely lacking as of late.. im all for hearing about your experience, and what you like and dislike, but at the end of the day, this is game x, not game y, and thus, should remain game x...
all im saying, is that anyone who isnt versed in trek but is trying to get the trek experience (cause that would be the only reason to, oh... i dont know, play a star trek game) should let the game flow in its natural course..
i dont go to a doctors office, and tell a doctor what i think he should do to treat his patients. nor do i go on once again, neverwinters boards and say what i think will make dungeons and dragons better.. i appreciate experiencing the genre, for what it is.. and maybe learning something, and respecting other peoples hobbies.. i dont go to my friends concerts and tell him which songs he should play that night..
all im saying is that if your not a trek fan, you should respect it. otherwise, why bother making the game star trek.. if its not gonna be star trek..

Aside from MMO traditional combat mechanics, what is so horribly un-Trek?
I honestly don't see it, I mean, I could understand the complaints if we had Mass Effect, Stargate or BSG ships flying around, but I see nothing that doesn't have it's origins in Star Trek.

cool. im not so hardcore that im a TRIBBLE about it.. but i do have have lines that i dont want to see crossed.. and some have been.. lol.. all im trying to say is that its a star trek game.. its not a bad thing to be an officianado of star trek in a star trek game.. and yes, there is some silly arguments.. but honestly.. part of the problem is this game was marketed as a game that was supposed to be close to canon and fallow the rules.. that is the only reason i hold cryptic acountable for canon..
it is what it is.. at the end of the day.. this game is still just a mediocre game, canon or not.. lots of bugs, server crashes, and old endgame content.. so i dont know why some people fight over it.. lol.. but i will defend any hardcore star trek player in a star trek game.. the same as i would a matrix fan in a matrix game.. a brony, or my little pony fany in a my little pony game.. lol, lets hope that last one doesnt happen.. lol..
Ok this has devolved into something I really didn't want - a full out canon fight.
Rge point is simple - it's aFederation resort/beach planet that has a rule against carrying/possesing weapons.
I hope that Cryptic follows canon - which would make the environment look better - by disabling the visuals of weapons from players while on the map.
Players can do this themselves - but most wont - so i hope Cryptic can do a blanked visual disable - when characters transfer to map - kind of like what they can do by disabling the EV suit when you beam to a Hub like ESD or DS9.
part of the problem is this game was marketed as a game that was supposed to be close to canon and fallow the rules.. that is the only reason i hold cryptic acountable for canon..

I honestly don't see it, I mean, I could understand the complaints if we had Mass Effect, Stargate or BSG ships flying around, but I see nothing that doesn't have it's origins in Star Trek.
just my own personal complaints (not saying these are anyone eleses)
i hate that a fed. player can fly enemy ships., and that when your outside esd, there is more enemy faction ships than there are star fleet ships.. (and i dont mind cryptic designed starfleet ships unlike others).. honestly, i would have rather seen them give us new cryptic designed starfleet vessels, over being able to fly a bug ship and what not.. (yes, i know sisko flew a bug ship, and kirk flew a bird of prey) but it wasnt common practice, and it was usually for one specialty mission.. honestly, i dont like the inclusion of racial ships as well, never saw them on the shows that are closer to this time line, it was always made clear that starfleet was the :federations" fleet..
i dont like the romulan faction.. even if you take in to account the destruction of romulus, and 30 years, it still doesnt make sense.. first off, they make it sound like the planet just suddenly exploded.. well, no it didnt..
spock was able to leave vulcan, and fly there, before the planet blew up, from vulcan, which is no short trip.. so the government would have gotten off the planet at the least.. and we are talking about a nomadic, species, who it wasnt even their home planet.. not to mention, the romulan empire was in control of thousands of systems at the time.. losing 1 planet would not suddenly make the romulans a wandering homeless species.. also, romulans were very xenophobic, 30 years isnt gonna change that which has been in their culture for thousands of years.. it was just poorly written, and poorly twisted.. there is no way that there would be three or four sub factions, and no way that any of them would work with other factions, especially the klinks.. maybe a few traitors, but yeah.. and the klinks wouldnt play nice with the roms either..
i dont like that cubes are one of the easiest things to blow up..
i dont like that the intrepid is a sci vessel, even though multiple times in the show it is refered to as a tactical vessel.
getting away from canon for a second, i dont like that the the fed klink war just seems to be non existant... i honestly, got like ten levels into the game, and forgot there was a klingon war.. and the whole game is based on this war.. lol..
i dont like that the feds just shoot everything up..., most of trek is about finding the non combat way out, which the game just overlooks badly..
i dont like the ranking system in the game, as most admirals are behind a desk, and not the "captain" of a starship..
it just gets smaller and sillier, but honestly, the long list of small insignificant gripes, grows into a larger problem (well for me from a trek fan standpoint)..
i dont know, like i said, im not as strict, and only the first couple really bother me.. theres alot of others, but to be honest, ive stopped playing since lor.. alot of my problem comes from the actual gameplay, and the lack of a coherant, and well written story line and content.. (like supplying a dilithium mine with dilithium).. really badly written story arcs, and explanations, like the temporal lockbox, god, that made my hair stand up i was so mad at the 12 year old explanation for why we had equipment from the future..
i dont like that the intrepid is a sci vessel, even though multiple times in the show it is refered to as a tactical vessel.
Go back to canon school. U.S.S Voyager and the Intrepid class are first and foremost science and exploration vessels. What good is a military ship going to get out of an Astrometrics Lab?
You might be confusing Intrepid and Sovereign, which IS a military ship.
lol, that was cute, but no.. good try though im a guy who admits when im wrong.. and fights when i know im right.. and im not saying im right or wrong in this instance, cause to be honest, there is no right or wrong here.. i was simply trying to bring the perspective of a trekkie, without being a whiney little girl like most trekkies..
and also i was trying to bring the perpective of its a star trek game.. there is no need for there to be an outlash at canon bound trekkies.. just ignore them.. cryptic is doing a fine job of destroying this game without either sides help.. (and when i say destroy, i mean from a game perspective, not a canon or what not persepctive lol)
Go back to canon school. U.S.S Voyager and the Intrepid class are first and foremost science and exploration vessels.
wow, first episode they talk about it being a tactical vessel lol. not sure if im the one who should go back to school.. just taking the dialogue in the show out of the picture for a second, (and i know cause i just watched the first episode for like the tenth time last night, i am one of those rare voyager fans lol..), why would starfleet send a science vessel on what was originally a tactical mission into the bad lands, to hunt down an enemy vessel..

Stupid commanders?
Flub in story-writing? (One mention doesn't make it fact)
All other ships are on another assignment?
They think the enemy wasn't that big of a threat?
Voyager had the equipment to undertake the task? (FYI: Voyager had the "best of the best" in sensors, computers, and warp-core equipment)
Take your pick.
Also:
The Intrepid-class was designed for long-term exploration missions.
It goes against my character's nature and background. It breaks what little immersion there is in this game.
My character is a Flag-Rank Starfleet officer who has pissed off numerous bad guys, from the Orion Syndicate to the Elachi.
Also, the United Federation of Planets is officially in a state of hostilities with the Klingon Empire, Borg Collective, and terrorist organizations such as the True Way and Tal Shiar. It is also in a state of de-facto hostilities with the Tholian Assembly and Breen Confederacy.
Under Article 43 of the Articles of Federation of the United Federation Of Planets, Risa, as a Federation member world, cannot prohibit Starfleet personnel, or other agents of the Federation, from carrying weapons in performance of their duties planetside. And since Starfleet officers are expected uphold the standards and principles of Starfleet at all times, and with the current interstellar political situation, Starfleet officers and agents of the Federation are technically on duty 24/7.
However, out of respect for the spirit of Risa's culture of welcoming friendship, I have no issue with the weapons being concealed (visuals disabled). My character will be carrying his personally owned Type 1 phaser if weapons are not prohibited by the game's developers. And will be out of sight, so as to not scare the sheeple.
Nothing wrong with a little role-playing every now and then. :D

All I ask of Cryptic is to disable the visuals - just as players have the option to in their toon screen.

no, cause i live by the motto, adversity breads innovation, well that and act like a ***** get slapped like a ***** lol...
im not saying that non trek opinions shouldnt matter, but when the devs are creating the game, they should strive incorperate your idea, in a trek manner.. which is severely lacking as of late.. im all for hearing about your experience, and what you like and dislike, but at the end of the day, this is game x, not game y, and thus, should remain game x...
all im saying, is that anyone who isnt versed in trek but is trying to get the trek experience (cause that would be the only reason to, oh... i dont know, play a star trek game) should let the game flow in its natural course..
i dont go to a doctors office, and tell a doctor what i think he should do to treat his patients. nor do i go on once again, neverwinters boards and say what i think will make dungeons and dragons better.. i appreciate experiencing the genre, for what it is.. and maybe learning something, and respecting other peoples hobbies.. i dont go to my friends concerts and tell him which songs he should play that night..
all im saying is that if your not a trek fan, you should respect it. otherwise, why bother making the game star trek.. if its not gonna be star trek..
Aside from MMO traditional combat mechanics, what is so horribly un-Trek?
I honestly don't see it, I mean, I could understand the complaints if we had Mass Effect, Stargate or BSG ships flying around, but I see nothing that doesn't have it's origins in Star Trek.
cool. im not so hardcore that im a TRIBBLE about it.. but i do have have lines that i dont want to see crossed.. and some have been.. lol.. all im trying to say is that its a star trek game.. its not a bad thing to be an officianado of star trek in a star trek game.. and yes, there is some silly arguments.. but honestly.. part of the problem is this game was marketed as a game that was supposed to be close to canon and fallow the rules.. that is the only reason i hold cryptic acountable for canon..
it is what it is.. at the end of the day.. this game is still just a mediocre game, canon or not.. lots of bugs, server crashes, and old endgame content.. so i dont know why some people fight over it.. lol.. but i will defend any hardcore star trek player in a star trek game.. the same as i would a matrix fan in a matrix game.. a brony, or my little pony fany in a my little pony game.. lol, lets hope that last one doesnt happen.. lol..
Show me.
Even when they are wrong?
just my own personal complaints (not saying these are anyone eleses)
i hate that a fed. player can fly enemy ships., and that when your outside esd, there is more enemy faction ships than there are star fleet ships..
No one can please the unpleasant fanbase....

(and when i say destroy, i mean from a game perspective, not a canon or what not persepctive lol)
wow, first episode they talk about it being a tactical vessel lol. not sure if im the one who should go back to school.. just taking the dialogue in the show out of the picture for a second, (and i know cause i just watched the first episode for like the tenth time last night, i am one of those rare voyager fans lol..), why would starfleet send a science vessel on what was originally a tactical mission into the bad lands, to hunt down an enemy vessel..
Also:
Memory Alpha wiki, look it up.
Or he can have a "cache" where he stored his weapons in secret, just in case things went sour.
All I ask of Cryptic is to disable the visuals - just as players have the option to in their toon screen.
Or to paraphase :
(1) I think that non-"expert" opinions are valid
(2) I think that non-"expert" opinions are invalid
the value of "expert" is variable but covers people who know, or at least think they know, something about a subject.
