Now many will be upset or even dismiss my logic for putting up this thread asking Cryptic not to make a Republic version of the Scimitar...or Falchion as we have seen in Azure Rescue. I have several reason for this and I will list them:
1. The ship will not be even CLOSE to cannon due to game limitations.
2. The ship will be either Way Overpowered or Way Underpowered, as seen with the Odyssey and the D'deridex, way underpowered is normally the way Cryptic goes with ALL Cruisers and Dreadnaughts. The exception being recently the Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer and the Jem'hadar Dreadnaught.
3. This will lead to the continued use of cannons over beams with EVERY new ship. This is a problem that many tend to ignore, but it seems like every new ship released can now use cannons, come on please Cryptic think of a better way to balance or beef-up new ships. Suggestions are already out there.
4. Ships that need Fleet versions will continue to be overshadowed and ships that need an upgrade or were previously C-Store Greats become obsolete. Yeah, remember the Odyssey...I don't either, because even compared to some of the weakest Fleet ships, it SUCKS! This is supposed to be the Enterprise F...at least give us a Enterprise Edition or something that is available through Fleet upgrade. Some actually like the design of the Odyssey , but man it really sucks compared to any of the other C-store ships and especially ANY lockbox ships.
5. Lastly, sorry to say this Cryptic but you are using slow turn rate TOO much to limit Cruisers, there is a slow turn rate and then there is I can't even turn the ship before the other ships fly around me TWICE. This coupled with the lack of native special abilities like Direct Energy Modulation or native Tractor Beam, makes Cruisers and Dreadnaughts gimped before you even start. Yes I know there are WAYS to make Cruiser and Dreadnaughts do alot of damage but when it can only be done by forcing all the power through Auxilary, something is WRONG. The simple fact is larger ships have MORE power NOT less than escorts. The Enterprise would not be having power issues in a fight with the Defiant, this is where this game seriously needs an overhaul before it starts introducing overpowered cannon heavy dreadnaughts or more seriously gimped Cruisers.
Considering how many people want the ship? How much Cryptic/PWE wants the money and how badly the Romulan Republic needs a flagship? Yeah, dream on. In before lock and all that.
But you forget one thing. It's not a cruiser. It's a CARRIER.
While only a few of us will have the opportunity to test the ship out before it is release, it's probably going to be similar to a Mirror Vo'quv. I would recommend you roll a Klink just to try it out, because it's so much fun to play carriers.
The best thing with carriers is you can literally park and shoot, as I have done with many dailies or borg encounter and even some eSTF. You rely upon hangars to give you a 360 degree, 12km attack range, and if you happen to have good pets (which is either the elite scorpions or anything on KDF side), then the turn rate become a non issue.
If you use it with a Rom Fed like a cruiser it will obviously be underpower, since Feds just do not have good pets. Put a Rom-KDF and use it like a Bortas or Carrier, then you get an overpower siege platform with hangars, even if they are just advanced pets. And that's assuming it does not even have thalalon weapon!
On this note, I really do not understand why people hate it's a carrier. Carrier allows one to get lazy, you know.
Cryptic will make a small fortune on that ship set - you really have to be kidding.
OMG, I am still Loling at your comment. That was well done. Now as far as a Scimitar, I would like one do to it being a Carrier available for the Romulan Republic. On top of that the ship was iconic in its power. The thing took a 3v1 and basically only lost due to handicaping its self. Everybody wants to win, some of us choose to pay.

Thanks - those video`s basically would sum up Cryptic`s response to this idea of cancelling the Scimitar.
I mean come on - first they have already invested lots into it - this has been shown already.
And 2 - if it`s well done - they could sell maybe 100,000 - 3 packs over the course of a year - that would be $5 million US
Yall negative nancy's worry too much. While I agree alot of work needs to be done in the cruiser department, I disagree with the thought of not adding new things.
Sure alot of stuff needs to be tweaked, but if they dont add new things, people loose interest during the time they are trying to tweak said stuff.
I am more than happy to see them add new ships, I dont pvp, so the balance issue is out the window with me. This game wasnt designed for pvp to begin with, believe me when I say pvp was an afterthought. I have been here since the beginning, and I am not intending to wave that around as a badge or anything. I say that because I have been thru every change they have made, and while it may not always be popular, the game still rolls on. People still have fun playing. And quite honestly thats all that matters.
I would also like to point out that making petitions on the forums is against regulations, and you should expect to have this thread closed.
Romulans need a Carrier. Whether it is the Scimitar or some other ship does not matter. The Temporal ships should be able to completely destroy any ship in the game since it is 400 years in the future. It should even put a major dent in a Dyson Sphere assuming they actually add one. If the Temporal ships were nerfed to be balanced with other Tier 5 ships, then the Scimitar would be as well.
The Scimitar/Falchion will be an abomination as this ship is not comparable to ANY ship in the Game except the Borg Cube and the Tholian Tarantula. Some have compared it to the Galaxy X, which is utterly ridiculous as the comparison shows. So unless you want a gimped down Galaxy X version of the Scimitar, than expect nothing but disappointment when this ship is added to STO.
We know the Sovereign is 680 meters in length ( or was until it rammed the scimitar ) but considering the distance between the two ships in the photo, the scimitar comes across as being much more than just 200 meters longer..
Personally I love my carriers. My Jem Dreadnaight is ace and I hope the Simitar is something like it.
Also I'm tired of all these canon kiljoys. If the game isn't 100% canon to the shows there would be lack of flexibility due to keeping within canon mandate plus most of the people here would leave due to those limits.
Im so looking forward to getting my Scimitar. Bring it on!
Monkey see, Monkey do. Monkey flings Feathered Monkey poo...
Actually, I am hoping the Scimitar pack opens the door to every faction getting a dreadnought carrier and the Federation finally getting real frigate pets. The KDF no longer needs the exclusivity and the Federation carrier line up needs a little love to stay relevant in the ongoing DPS race.
Cash shop and lock box creep is to be expected with any game running this business model. Newer will be better and the old stuff once cool will be dated. I am not sure we can ever really hope for a large scale ship re-balance though I think it is needed considering how important DPS has become to playing vs the current seeming uselessness of support since launch.
I don?t want them to cancel the Scimitar release. I do want them to shower me with some details I can use to plan for it like a BOFF layout in particular. I do want it to be worth the price. If I were to quibble I?d say the Vesta is outmatched by the Kar?fi in spite of its gimmicks and the Odyssey a failure next to the Bortas. I don?t want that to happen here or with future releases.
3. This will lead to the continued use of cannons over beams with EVERY new ship. I do have to agree with you here. It is unfortunate that it seems that every new ship can use cannons, which really,...doesn't make the few ships that do, very special now does it. The Dreadnought Cruiser, in my opinion, (besides Escorts), should be the only one on the Fed side, to be able to use cannons. Otherwise, it's quite outdated, and the description should be changed...
5. Lastly, sorry to say this Cryptic but you are using slow turn rate TOO much to limit Cruisers, there is a slow turn rate and then there is I can't even turn the ship before the other ships fly around me TWICE. I agree about the turn rate. Though, with a large cruiser, it's understandable. Yet once again, I agree with you. Personally, as I said, I think the Dreadnought Cruiser, should be the most powerful Fed ship for many obvious reasons, and reasons you mentioned here.
--Toss it in there, just as long as it gets donkey-punched in the jibblies. It can't be on the level of the actual Scimitar, since that would be incredibly game-breaking. But if its going to be tossd in there, sure, make it a Romulan-only carrier. C-Store that stuff and it's fine. Lockbox it if you must. But I don't care enough to get one myself. I prefer the Mogai my captain is flying. I like the style better.
1. The ship will not be even CLOSE to cannon due to game limitations.

You can't really use any canon scources to balance your ships for you, as canon didn't have any balance nor did the ships on the show have a constant performance. They were as sturdy, powerful or weak as the script wanted them to be. Birds of Prey, Jem'Hadar attack ships, Galors, Vor'Chas or Warbirds went back and fourth from taking tons of punishment and wasting whole fleets of enemy ships to brittle one-shot barges made from explodium within two episodes. Usually depending on weather the ship was piloted by a main character or just generic Aliens.
Actually, I am hoping the Scimitar pack opens the door to every faction getting a dreadnought carrier and the Federation finally getting real frigate pets. The KDF no longer needs the exclusivity and the Federation carrier line up needs a little love to stay relevant in the ongoing DPS race.
An easy way to do that would be to beef up the Atrox a bit. Introduce a fleet version and give it some Atrox-only, Caitian-style frigates (which could also be made into playable ships, similar to the aquarius).
Ah I think OP you underestimate the power of money in a cash shop driven game. Whether or not the Scimitar should be added is a secondary consideration to revenue, welcome to F2P.
Remember they need to keep adding items to purchase to make a profit and with most items once you have purchased them then you wont be buying that item again, so there needs to be new items added. The Developers have to continually look at what else they can sell in the cash shop and the Scimitar is an item they know will sell so I don't think any amount of reasoning will stop it from being added.
1. The ship will not be even CLOSE to cannon due to game limitations.
Just like any ship in STO. Nothing new.
How can you know that ? The stats haven't been released yet.

We don't know what kind of ship it will be, but if it's a full carrier with a slow turn rate, even if you can equip cannon, beam will be the most commonly used weapon.
You can equip cannon on a Vo'quv, I hope you doesn't.
And anyway, the Romulan use a lot of cannon, it's canon (no pun intended). Just like the Klingons. If they added the cardassians, they would likely use more beams than cannons.
4. Ships that need Fleet versions will continue to be overshadowed and ships that need an upgrade or were previously C-Store Greats become obsolete. Yeah, remember the Odyssey...I don't either, because even compared to some of the weakest Fleet ships, it SUCKS! Many people don't have access to a shipyard. And a lot of people doesn't have ship provisioning.
I'm hoping they'll give every weapon an animation as if it is firing from 6 or 7 hardpoints at once, to give the impression it actually has 50 or so weapons
Tough one on turn rate with this ship as she didn't seem to have any issues with manoeuvring during the battle with the Enterprise E and the 2 Romulan Warbirds. In fact i'd say she out manoeuvred the Enterprise quick easily, or at least had enough acceleration to move her out of the way of quite a few of Enterprises phaser and torpedo volleys despite them firing blind. Enterprise only had a area to fire into but the ship seemed to have the mojo to get out the area fairly fast.
Maybe this could be the 1st ship to have a 5 fore and 4 aft weapons layout. And be a cruiser/carrier outside the fantastic Vor'cha that can turn past 9 without a RCS Console.
If she's on par with the Dominion Dreadnought i'll be happy, that ship is a monster and the Scimitar will be as well if based on those specs

Yeah - so No - the Scimitar IS coming!
Note: Although I have yet to see her on Tribble, there have been instances where a secondary shield slot has been seen there.
Plus the Scimidar has an advanced battle cloak that enabled her to maintain shields during and after cloaking.
I hope she is overpowered. Something gratuitous. Something waa-aaay over the top. Three or four hangar bays.
And I'll line up to buy her

Are you certain about those measurements for the scimitar?? I ask because of the size difference in this picture.

if its released as anything else rather than T-5, still only romulans can buy or fly it... its a Dreadnought class warbird.
