The MACO three-piece set power isn't worth it unless you're spec'd into Graviton Generators, which I'm not.
Yeah, hence why I stopped using three piece MACO set. I tend to stick to the full Assimilated set, or the MACO Shield and Deflector, since they both work nicely with my Odyssey. As for the rest of your post, I find your build to be quite interesting. I might consider trying it out for myself.
Hm... actually if you have EPtS3 you won't need the extra shield power from the warp core, hence why I stuck with the Hyper Injection. However, you can find relatively cheap (as in less than 300k ECs) mk X blue warp cores that are actually decent on the exchange. They give slightly weaker bonuses than the mk XI and mk XII, but they are still very good. You might want to look into that.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Well I used the Odessey for quite some time, switching between the science and the tactical version back and forth. I used ti with a Fleet Aquarius as second ship for rp reasons and the oddy never let me down. It can do it all, dish out decent dps, heal and survive.
And its very flexible. Its ust that most content is dps oriented so it lacks a little behind in that regard. But all around it pretty much makes up for it. That Uni Lt Cmdr is usefull for so many things however the focus in this game is dps so that flexibility isnt always used. Especialy since its rather pointless to put an engineer there. Those level 1 Ens abilities are not that usefull and alot of the good eng abilities have shared cooldowns.
No matter what its a good ship. And certainly in the top 3 of the cruisers only outmatched by Fleet Excelsior and The Fleet Sovereign with regard to damage output.
I do however agree that the 3 Oddy set consoles should either have extra console slots that only those consoles can use or, once you have all 3 consoles you should be allowed to fuse them into 1 console with maybe the penatly of loosing the 3 set bonus if its considerd to stron an advantage.
The consoles themselves arent too bad. The workbees are great imho and the saucer seperations ands to the fun by increasing the trunrate alot. The aquarius escort however should be made more resilent and stronger in the damage output department or both to make it worthwhile. Sadly thats true for the Playership version of the aquarius as well.
All in all its a great ship that can do everything quite well but nothing perfect.
With fleet engineering consoles coming the oddy may become a little more of a beast.
RCS consoles with resistance values, Neutroniums that boost turn rate.
And theres always the rep system passives. So you could use those to increase your tank or damage, or even a mix. I tend to go with things that boost my weaknesses.
With my tac officer in a tac heavy oddy I used the healing and resistance passives. When i finaly go and play my engineer Ill use the damage boosting passives.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet that I've been wondering about. With the change to separation, that it no longer cancels if you die, it seems to be a much more useful option. You can just go ahead and separate without worrying about getting stuck without it on a 10m CD. How does that bode for running the Oddy as a single cannon/turret cruiser? Could the Tac one possibly outdo the Excelsior in this regard, since separating really gets the lead out of the Oddy's turning?
I didnt know about the change to the separation but it might work. The oddy can be more resilent than the excelsior and with the added mobility without the cooldown problems it looks good on paper. I however still think BFAW gets you more than singe cannons and turrets. I tried that on an Excelsior and it worked okay but my dps was way better with beams. So i stuck to that.
The issue I always had with BFAW is that while if you parse it, it's giving you better DPS, you can't focus it anywhere unless you work things so only one target is in range. That can make it difficult to take out a single target that has escorts or pet spam buzzing about, and possibly dangerous when there are things like weakend Nanite Generators that you specifically DON'T want to hit yet. Cannons let you have your DPS and focus it where you want with CRF and CSV.
FAW has its place, and it's mean in the right circumstances (several people doing it at once in PvP for example). I just don't like being dependent on it.
Tac Oddysey cruiser with all three Oddysey consoles.
All antiproton Mk XI beams with Quantum torps.
Antiproton and Quantum consoles.
BFAW2 and HYT3. I use a tac officer for the universal LtCmdr slot.
This combination works well for me and I haven't had many issues. My only beef is that the Chevron Separation and the Aquarius destroyer can't be deployed at the same time.
I personally like my Odyssey (the Free one), while I would hesitate to bring it into an STF where DHCs might be more useful, I do find it very nice and useful in other PvE events, and have scored 3rd, 2nd and even 1st from time to time on events that do give out such rankings.
The only downside of flying an Oddy, apart form the fact it can not apply DHCs is the slow turn rate without the right equipment, and there are multiple ways to turn that around or have it not be such a pain.
The thing is Cruisers / Science ships / Escorts are not equaly competitive. They each excel in their roles for shure but every ship nowadays can tank either through Boff Layout and ridiculusly heavy shielding or through speed. Science ships often have to sacrifice some of their more interesting powers to stay alive. With most Cruisers its pretty much the same. Most CAN tank well or very well, but those who do it well are most of the times either toothless in regard to raw dps or sacrifice alot of team heal abilities to be competitive and thereby fail in their intended role.
Escorts cant tank or debuff that well but they do it well enough to do be mostly independant of support ships. With the other ship classes its the other way around. They often do their thing well and in trying to compete in dps wich still is king in this game, they cut themself back on the things they are meant to be good in.
Im all for Teamplay but considering everyone wants to finish their grinding quickly its is kinda broken. Everyone trying to squeeze the most damage out of their designs to keep up.
Escorts offer the easiest and fastest and least expensive way to succes.
In regard to the oddessey that means you can tank nearly everything with the right setup, with another setup you can tank and debuff to some degree and another setup allows you to do quite good dps for a cruiser, and even surpass escorts in sustained damage when done right.
Its boff layout allows for that flexibility.
However all that is fruitless because you cant do two of those things better than an escort.
I do like the Oddessey alot , being a Cruiser fan, and its certainly one of the best ingame on the federation side. And one of the few ships that can be very good for what you make of it. But its a jack of all trades , dont expect it to be the monster youd think it should be.
If you play PvE mostly that is not much of a problem, load it up with BFAW, TS, and some attack patterns, the right boffs to speed cooldown on your weapons abilities and put the rest into healing.
That way you should be good to win alot in Gorn minefield, SB24 and sometimes in ESTFs.
Campaign missions are also easy with that setup. If you want to winn most ESTFs youre better of with an escort. And in PvP you better get used to being a tank with a little bit of bite.
