Well worded and sad at the same time. No worries though. As long as good people keep striving, evil will not prosper.
On the point of premades.. They are not the devil of PvP. Ive died to many a premade over the years and while it can suck to lose, I will not condemn a group of people for working as a team or doing it well when I could show the initiative and do the same but choose not too.
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY support and encourage premade play.
Playing as part of a co-ordinated and supportive team is fantastic.
That is one of the tenets of Boot Camp.
We promote fair play, discourage reliance on any power/ ability that is deemed in the hazy light of day.
That does not say that we are perfect in our endeavors. Merely that we are aimed for progress not perfection.
I agree. It's tiresome. We'll chat tomorrow on bootcamp I hope. Been too long since we have.
Take care old friend.
Your support of Boot Camp is one of the reasons for its ongoing success.
Making your TeamSpeak readily available to such a large group of strangers is admirable and deeply appreciated.
I guess that irrespective of feelings or viewpoints, what is clear as day to me is this.
What are we, as a community going to do FOR PvP. What are we willing to change amongst ourselves as individuals?
I for example ran a pure MK XII purple Disruptor [ACC]x3 build with full house MK XII purple disruptor consoles. I put them away. Plasma Leech. Graviton Pulse. Set it aside from another time (STF's I have loads of fun!).
I do this because I want people to share in my fun. Why do I have to? I don't - I want to for the sake of that which I love. Bit over the top. Perhaps, but one does not know my life to know why STO is so important to me.
When I die to a player I don't readily recognize now, I find myself smiling a whole lot more, because I know the real score in my heart. I have won. And I cheer them like I was one of the 300.
What can we, as individuals do to set aside our beliefs and negative feelings around PvP, and just say to ourselves, "You know what, I'm just going to go out there and have fun, whether I do it in a blazing light show of antics or a fiery ball of doom! And when I am done I will cheers for the sake of saying, I as there!''
Take away all the clutter and one's behavior in PvP says more about our own character than the mechanics.
Outside of PvP, my finest moments when I come alive, is watching the back of the newbie in a STF.
When I see their brevity in the face of danger, or see their ship wobble from side-to-side as they frantically think they are about to die.
Bring them back from that edge has been a constant sense of joy for me.
And when they shout out at the end of the match "Thx! THAT was ExHilIrating!!!!!!" STO has succeeded.
Not only do I actually pvp more than I used to, but it's pretty much all I do. Log in, check the exchange, buy low keys, sell high, and then queue up for some fights.
As the best pvper in STO, I officially endorse the sentiments of the OP. Any noobs who disagree deserve to be spawncamped ruthlessly over and over again using any and all means possible until they leave the queues forever.
Couldn't have put it better myself. Time to dust off the ol' Miranda toting a sick photonic decoy console and a nasty trike mine in the rear (you can never nerf a man's spirit, newbies).
Of course if I die it was because of some nice cloaked 3 v. 1/I was AFK/getting a drink/compy lagged. Don't get it mixed up!
The very same thing is going on in another game right now. It seems that communities goals are universal. Keep the game imbalanced so they can continue to exploit thru manipulating the devs into thinking everything is fine.
GW2 has that issue right now. It's happening in PVE more then PVP however people aren't listening and it's become a bigger problem then it was so basically they are losing players.
If the presence of the JHAS, Wells, Recluse, etc is any indication: there is money to be made in pvp. Plus, people who want to pvp dont want to grind - they are the ones most likely to pull out their wallets and pay to win today instead of play to win tomorrow.
reading the pve forum you would think they invest billions trying to kill the borg threat
Ok naming no names - but saying they were experience and well known PvP elite(cough) players. Some who I have seen on these forums.
The other day I was in a C/H and got put on a team with 4 others - on the other side there were 4 players but 2 decided to AFK.
Ok so I was flying my cloaked ship and had no need to help these Jem bugs out as they destroyed the 2 others in seconds every time they came out. Usually 1 destroyed the 2 ships while the other 3 capped - then they switched who whould be the killing ship.
What I did have time to do was follow them around and watch there powers/buffs/weapons going off.
I don't film anything - could not care that much - but they were going off like crazy - even without a enemy destroyed they would still cycle a bit. I was convinced after 5 min of watching that they were totally automated and only had to push fire and manuver their ships.
Of course it could just have been some super fancy keybinds and normally I am so engaged in the battle I don't have 5 min to follow players around and watch them before - I don't know - but it really made me go - WTF??
Sounds like something anyone with a basic gaming keyboard or mouse could do.

the problem is, a "premade" is defined differently to everyone.
how would it be fair to clup together a group of friends who just like playing together into the same catagory as a group of seasoned pvp'rs who are loaded for bear?
what about if its only 2 "premade" people on the team and they carry their team to victory?
does that automatically make nayone else on their team evil premaders too?
too many grey areas in something as stupid as "banning premades from the pubic que"
not all premades are equal either. ive seen plenty of premades lose to a ragtag group of people from the opvp chat channel, ive even been in matches where completely randomly i end up with other pvp'rs who know what theyre doing and we get called a premade.
so yeah...
People always bring these very valid points up. The solution is not to ban premades from the queus, but rather to make separate pug only queus.
People always bring these very valid points up. The solution is not to ban premades from the queus, but rather to make separate pug only queus.
and how you stop premades from going in the other queues?
the most simple thing you can do is to make your own premade/pugmade.Ok if thats not possible (sometimes you can be lazy to group with others ) the queue should at least not put 5 tacs in one team...mix classes abit.
Er... did you not read what you were responding to? I wrote that there should be pug only queus, no one could get on them as a team.
yes but 2 people are not a premade pug stomping machine but are a team.lets say you and your friend want to do a quick pvp match in arena .You will have to queue against a premade and here we go again ,but this time in groups of two lol
Ok, this is from someone who really doesn't PvP (only done three times, one as an impromptu challenge, the other two just farting around 1v1 or 1v2 with fleetmates).
As far as "chest-thumping", I look at it this way, if the guy spent a lot of time practicing or whatnot, or even just maybe got lucky, he deserves to self-congratulate a little, be proud of what you just managed to do, and nothing wrong with that at all. With that being said, if you're going to call someone noob, or other insults, do it in a spirit of jocularity, and in a way that the other person KNOWS you're kidding around. A little light humour is always fun to see and hear. But no one likes to go in a game, that's supposed to be all about fun, and spend their time getting insulted over & over for no other reason, than someone needing to boost their own ego, or hear themselves talk.
On the flip side, if you just got hammered, do the same thing, if you're going to "trash-talk", do it in the spirit of the game, be fun about it, and try to enjoy yourself. At the end of the match, shoot a message to the other team, or the particular players that nailed you a lot, and say, "Hey, good game. I had fun." Even if you want to claim they got lucky killing you, sometimes it's a skill to be able to take advantage of what luck brings to someone. And you never know, being friendly, and showing the others, even if you got hammered a lot, you still had fun, they may want to play some more with you, and show you a few pointers. And for the winners, if you shoot the same message to the losing team/players, it reminds everyone that first & foremost, this is a game.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

As you may or may not know, I am always thinking, looking for ways for us to improve PvP in both the actual gameplay mechanics and in the general fun as a whole. Here's one of those instances where I bring to you an idea of the community making the game more enjoyable for everyone, as we aren't developers and can only hope and pray for the developers to hear our pleas. With that being said, I'll move on to the point of this thread.
It always breaks my heart to see people being rude to other players. One of the ones that hurts the most is the notorious "L2P". Yes, there are some players who will not be as good as you, and there are some who are better than you. But it may be possible that the player you say this to actually is new to the game, and is more than willing to learn how to play. L2P doesn't help them, it only insults them. Next time, instead of just saying "L2P noob" or "L2P baddie," instead offer helpful tips on how they can improve their gameplay. Remember that the only true mistakes are the ones you repeat twice.
Another one that really gets to me is the name calling. It doesn't matter what faction we play for, or what skill level we have, because in the big picture, behind each character is a human being, who deserves the same kind of treatment as you do: kindness, uplifting, constructive criticism, and an overall good attitude. When you throw insults at people, it starts to turn everyone against each other, which puts a bad reputation on the community and yourself. It will always pay off to treat people with kindness, because those who are mean will be known for it, and many people will refuse to play with them.
Finally, the last one I will mention here is the sore loser. I remember when I was just a little boy, and my dad put four cards face down in front of me. He said that I win if I find the Ace. So I flipped one over and it was an Ace, and I was thrilled because I won. He told me to do it again, so I did. Another Ace. Oh I was feeling on top of the world, I won again. He praised me, told me good job, I was really good at this game. He told me to do it again, so I did. Another Ace. My happiness finally turned into boredom. He asked me to do it again, and I said no, I had grown bored. He flipped them all over and they were all Aces. The point was that in a game where you win every single time, you will grow bored really fast. Losing gives a lot of positive outcomes, such as an opportunity to learn from mistakes and improve yourself, diversity to the game being that you know it's possible to lose, it makes competing worth while. Be prepared to lose, and when it happens, instead of insulting your team mates, try congratulating them on giving it their best effort, because in the end, remember that every one of us is on the same team.
A little bit of kindness goes a very long way.

Quite the post you have there, unfortunately I'm a pessimist.
I firmly believe that this such thing will continue as long as there's groups of people out there that only believe in the "I Win, You Lose,, exploit, haxzor, rofllol, trash talk, trololol" mentality that, in my honest opinion, too many online gamers have.

They could also raise the dilithium amount on the matches - but I am sure it would be rife then with afk and other silliness.
