I live in a country where over the course of the last two years I have watch the near extinction of the majestic Rhino from our land because of the actions of a few self-serving men.
There is nothing noble about their slaughter, the carnage left in their wake.
This gets me thinking about certain actions by certain groups and individuals in PvP.
I am sure that all of you know what I mean.
Some folks who will happily bring PvP into disrepute if only to satisfy their own sense of self-aggrandizement. Here's the thing.
I don't respect that. I will not entertain that behavior ever. It drives new players away from PvP. It alienated novice players, and gives sanction to the rest of the communities disdain towards PvPers.
It is sad really, because what they leave behind is a wounded community - a community that cannot applaud their victors for their wins, because the underlying trust and integrity that holds PvP together is threatened every time the next known exploit, or broken power/ weapon is discovered and bound enmasse.
Today, I must say - I am ashamed to be associated with the PvP community. The malice and "look-at-me" attitude sickens me.
Had I known that PvP was such a popularity pageant frankly I would have worn a prom dress.
So, suck-it-up, get back on the field - and start to rebuild PvP into what it deserves to be.

Can we have a 'like' button for the forums, please?
Great post by the way, drkfrontiers.
I'll admit I'm pretty vocal, not because I'm losing or its not going my way but because a lot of the time its just down right ridiculous what's happening.
Sadly my conscience is quite strong which is why I refuse to use skills like warp plasma or theta, knowing full well its glitched graphically, there are a few other things I refuse to use due to the inherent broken nature of them.
The downside is, the 'elite' in the PvP community don't share that sentiment and insist on using any and all of the known bugged equipment and skills enmasse to make it even more a horrible experience for anyone without a high powered premade behind them.
Some of the stuff being used now is so bad, the ones using it don't even need skill to win. They just spam the bejesus out of you instead.
When you look at certain threads of 'such and such is OP', the first ones to defend it are the ones who rely on it, then to further the insult claim everyone else must adapt to it (which normally requires a respec, new equipment etc). Sometimes the call for 'nerf' is wrong but many a time it is justified.
It does feel like to us mere mortals have to bow and scrape to the few who seem to get it their way.
One fleet in particular springs to mind on this, they shall remain nameless due to rules.
Here is to another one burned out by drama.
hah had me going there for a moment....

I firmly believe that this such thing will continue as long as there's groups of people out there that only believe in the "I Win, You Lose,, exploit, haxzor, rofllol, trash talk, trololol" mentality that, in my honest opinion, too many online gamers have.
I haven't been playing the game as much since LoR hit. I have barely PvPed at all since it hit as well.
I do feel much in the same way though. I have gotten quite tired of this whole wave of negativity since LoR hit the game. Both from non-PvPers, and PvPers for various reasons.
Then we really had serious drama. Threads being closed and vendettas out the TRIBBLE. :P
I was  I thoroughly enjoyed watching the spanking they gave to said fleets
Someday's I yearn their return. I am tempted to go park my boat outside the Bajoran Wormhole.
I get the bit about the Rhino. I hope the Chinese are enjoying their cult medicines. I get the bit about you in a Prom Dress. I'll bring the corsage. And the llama.
The rest I'm not sure about. If we're discussing the profoundly held back group that needs to automate their badness well that group needs to go. And it needs to be aired in the light of day, shown for what it is and to bad. They're the cancer, not us. At least I hope that's what the "Pre PWE edit" version of your post said.
And its going to take a great degree of determination to do so. Remember you're talking about a group that on average consists of extremely slow learners that prefer things to remain static going so far as to flat out deny even obvious facts that would injure their standing.
So I'm going to do 3 things to help.
1. No longer purchase Chinee Aphrodisiacs.
2. Refuse to glorify broken fleets and posters.
3. Ask you to the Prom. And rent a llama.
I pledge my Loyalty to Pvp and the honor that is found with in it by the mature and like minded.
Good Kill, and Good game are the words for pvp. Whether you win our loose. Be thankful to those who participated even if they may not be gracious.
When and if someone pops you and you know you could have survived. Say good kill. It does wonders. Let you ego go sometimes. No need to hash out every death people. We all have our time to meet our makers. whether it by someone lucky shot or some ones skill.
No one can win them all, and yes if the sun was in your eyes. Toughen up and say good killr good game anyway. It goes along way sometimes.
To those that like to talk. Let them talk. They are mostly talk and they will show them selves for what who they are. No need to feed into them or drag your self down a peg by acknowledging immature behavior. Instead just use them as target practice. :

Let's see if I can help.
He seemed to specifically be targeting self-aggrandizement, which I think he has a good point on. It's a simple human failing anyone can fall into and drk's message is something we all need to take to heart.
I'd like to think that he might also consider dealing in rumor, hearsay, open slander and unnecessary insults as being things that aren't very good for the community at large as well, but obviously that's something only drk could tell me.
Absolutely agree with you. But, to be honest we both know I was not speculating. I am not one for gossip and such.
And I have never ...! Well once, but that's another tale altogether ... worn a dress. 41 and still waiting for my prom date to show.
Thanks for trying but it seems that you can't. Thinking otherwise on your part was simple self-aggrandizement. But on to other things.
There's no indication that he was specifically targeting self-aggrandizement in a general manner, as seemingly ubiquitous as that shortcoming may be. For example by saying "Gee, folks should be demure, cheery and nice, and not big fat dicks.". That's a general statement on a specific subject that indicates no obvious trigger. But I think there was a trigger. I think he had a particular event in mind when he started the thread. Here's why I say that.
"This gets me thinking about certain actions by certain groups and individuals in PvP.
I am sure that all of you know what I mean."
You may have noticed his post was edited. I BET the part that was removed was the part where it was stated plainly for anyone that DIDN'T in fact already know what he meant. So where's the trigger?
So yah I guess only Drk can tell us. And only if he doesn't get moderated again.

Sorry, if my post was worded to seem as if I was implying that you were.
That wasn't the intent at all.
No he was being very specific as to the trigger, on the other hand I think we are all capable of extrapolating beyond that.
Using a current example to hopefully set a tone for the future.
That's what I get from drk's post. He's at once upset, but he still cares enough to post a thread to hopefully bring things to a better place.
Out of respect for him, that's the tone I'm going to take as well.
I have seen very few preamdes in pvp, since LoR, maybe it has something to do with the way they revamp the queues. If so, that's a good thing. Some of the premades are just nasty. I think they should be identified and publicly shamed though am unsure if this is allowed under forum rules.
Publicly shaming people isn't really going to fix the problem, not to mention its similar behavior in most formats, and that some griefers feed off it.
Some of this is thin skin, some, there is a certain amount of trash talking in head to head competition, to both psyche up your side, and psyche out the other, but the line between acceptable and not can be very fine, and some people take it very personally, while others cross the line and take it too far.
And lets be honest, and I'm not saying this is the majority of the pvp crowd, but PvP attracts certain elements, depending on the game, and nature, with typically the worst elements being attracted to pvp were the victims have no choice but to be pvp, though honestly they put them selves in that game to start with in those cases.
But the trash talking aside the sportsmanship is gone, or going. good sportsman win and loose graciously, they enjoy their victories, and the challenges they over came, but without rubbing it in peoples faces.
But in both pvp and pve you have whole groups of people who are "look at me, look at me" or who are only spoiling for a fight, or to hurt someone else, or basically troll for their own personal amusement, or to make them selves feel good.
PvP gets a really bad rep due to these sorts because honestly what's considered griefing, or out of line is far different then what it would be in a pve environment. So the enforcement tends to be different if behavior is enforced at all, and they can get away with being anywhere from mildly abusive to highly abusive to other players.
The only real way to police them is to shun them, sometime pointing out their behavior, a form of shaming them publicly. but you can likely do far more good by shunning them and just picking up those that they have trashed, put down and or hurt, dusting them off, and getting them back on their feet. They are more likely to stick around pvp, even if they end up casual, if they know some people will be helpful, offer advise and encouragement, even when someone else is slamming them and knocking them down.
It can take a thousand kindnesses for someone to remember, but only one slight for them to never forget. And while that's a bit of a exaggeration, it is the sort of stigma and uphill battle the good side of the pvp community has to slog through.
The other day I was in a C/H and got put on a team with 4 others - on the other side there were 4 players but 2 decided to AFK.
Ok so I was flying my cloaked ship and had no need to help these Jem bugs out as they destroyed the 2 others in seconds every time they came out. Usually 1 destroyed the 2 ships while the other 3 capped - then they switched who whould be the killing ship.
What I did have time to do was follow them around and watch there powers/buffs/weapons going off.
I don't film anything - could not care that much - but they were going off like crazy - even without a enemy destroyed they would still cycle a bit. I was convinced after 5 min of watching that they were totally automated and only had to push fire and manuver their ships.
Of course it could just have been some super fancy keybinds and normally I am so engaged in the battle I don't have 5 min to follow players around and watch them before - I don't know - but it really made me go - WTF??
C&H, a great place to get ganked from cloak. Which is why I tend spam my SPACEBAR when taking points alone as I'm at least defending myself to some extent from cloaked alphas.

That could be the answer.
the problem is, a "premade" is defined differently to everyone.
how would it be fair to clup together a group of friends who just like playing together into the same catagory as a group of seasoned pvp'rs who are loaded for bear?
what about if its only 2 "premade" people on the team and they carry their team to victory?
does that automatically make nayone else on their team evil premaders too?
too many grey areas in something as stupid as "banning premades from the pubic que"
not all premades are equal either. ive seen plenty of premades lose to a ragtag group of people from the opvp chat channel, ive even been in matches where completely randomly i end up with other pvp'rs who know what theyre doing and we get called a premade.
so yeah...
Do you even Science Bro?
No, the solution is to become social and make some friends to team up. Not to punish those who are social, 1v1guy.
Good PvPers are constantly hitting their powers as the situation dictates, there is nothing fishy there. If I don't see a guy putting up any buffs, he's probably dead or a total noob.
Well worded and sad at the same time. No worries though. As long as good people keep striving, evil will not prosper.
On the point of premades.. They are not the devil of PvP. Ive died to many a premade over the years and while it can suck to lose, I will not condemn a group of people for working as a team or doing it well when I could show the initiative and do the same but choose not too.
R.I.P
I agree. It's tiresome. We'll chat tomorrow on bootcamp I hope. Been too long since we have.
Take care old friend.

If the presence of the JHAS, Wells, Recluse, etc is any indication: there is money to be made in pvp. Plus, people who want to pvp dont want to grind - they are the ones most likely to pull out their wallets and pay to win today instead of play to win tomorrow. How many stf's will you join tonight and see one of the premier ships I promise you will see in every pvp match? not many. Cryptic should really work on this pvp system, give players incentive to play. More ec rewards, a pvp reputation system with pvp marks, Something to make the pvp pool larger so that one premade cant dominate everyone that comes.
As for 'premades' ruining the ques and the pvp experience for everyone, this would not be the case if there were more people playing. At this moment, Saturday night, there are 10 players in the que. TEN. that could very well be 2 premades on a voice chat system coordinating their efforts. Pugs wont stand a chance, but we cant begrudge premades for this. Every game with pvp will have 'premades' - the difference is that with a large enough pool of opponents, one or two premades wont make a huge impact. Premades arent all bullies. They are groups of friends who want to play well, and make 1440 dilli every 3 games.
I have been on both sides. Its no more fun slaughtering a team with no contest then getting slaughtered. I wish I could pvp and not see the same people all night long. In most cases I can tell who will win the match before the first shot is fired, just by looking at the names, this is how small the pvp community is, and that is sad.
