Jesu LaRoca makes everybody die using the USS Tiburon NCC-(1)68636: "Tiburon" means "shark" en Espanol.
General Ssharki demands your respect in the IKS Norgh'a'Qun: a norgh is an acquatic predator much like a shark. The 'a'-suffix indicates greatness in the attached noun. "Qun" is the Klingon word for god. So "Norgh'a'Qun" translates literally as "great shark god" or loosely as "God of sharks."
All the other ships belonging to my two mains are variations on the theme. (USS Mako, USS Hammerhead, IKS Norgh'Iw (blood shark), IKS Nuj'taj (dagger mouth) etc.) I like sharks.
For my Romulan I'm doing something a little different. My other great passion is military hardware, so between the Romulan fascination with Raptors and the USAF's tendency to name their aircraft after various birds of prey, I'll be naming Don'el Sander's ships after various American flying war machines.
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

...is my Rommie's D'deridex. The name is meant to imply the rising of the Romulan Republic. It is partially inspired by this quote:
Last night the very gods show'd me a vision-
I fast and pray'd for their intelligence-thus:
I saw Jove's bird, the Roman eagle, wing'd
From the spongy south to this part of the west,
There vanish'd in the sunbeams: which portends-
Unless my sins abuse my divination-
Success to the Roman host.
USS Cimarron - Ship I served on while in the US Navy.
USS Chosen - 2nd Ship I served on in the Navy
actually im not going to list them all as I have every lockbox and Fleet and C-store ship in the game, but they all are named after real Navy ships that I served aboard or that were stationed in Pear Harbor when I was on active duty.

Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

Vesta Class - USS Gemini, USS Discovery - Named for two NASA space probe programs.

It sounds bad TRIBBLE, something you dont want to mess with...which fits perfect for a Klingon ship no? I think I heard of it first in pirates of the Caribbean and it kind of fits. It's a though ship whose commanding officer is rpetty much like my Gorn, Gorvar. It only seemed to fit really.
RRW Virinat's Spirit
Although I headcanon it as The Spirit of Virinat, thank you lack of characters box, the point is still the same. A portion of your crew are fellow survivors of Virinat, Tovan Khev is one to. You lost your home, you got a new ship...and you want to remember were you came from. To show the Tal shiar that the spirit of your home still lives on...and is currently shooting torpedos and phasers at them while boarding parties jump in and kick all kinds of TRIBBLE. - Captain Six of Nine aka Ashley "Don't Call Me Ash" Campbell
USS Texas NCC-361836 (Ambassador Class): This ship is my flag ship and my personal favorite. I named it after Texas because I want to move there, also because you don't mess Texas.
USS Dallas NCC-361836-A (Defiant Class): This ship is my grinding ship that use to quickly mow through a bunch of missions in a short amount of time. I named it after the City of Dallas because I'm a Cowboys fan, and I want to move to the rural East Texas area just outside of Dallas.
USS Florida NCC-281861 (Sovereign Class): I'm about to get this ship and figured that I would name it after my home State, will likely keep it in my stable just because. Might play with it for a bit before switching back to the Dallas or Texas.
My next 2 free ships will be named the Montgomery A, which is the name of my son and first capital of the Confederacy, and Brahman which is the mascot for my alma mater South Florida.
My previous ships were named Montgomery (Miranda Class), Brooksville (Constitution Class), and Stonewall (Akira Class). I did not like the way they played so I deleted them from my stable of ships.
USS Texas (NCC361836) - Ambassador Class
USS Dallas (NCC361836-A) - Defiant Class
USS Florida (NCC361513) - Sovereign Class (Mirror)
USS Stonewall Jackson (NCC241861) - Prometheus Class
When I first started playing, my inspiration for ship names came from the New Generation arc of Robotech (known in Japan as Genesis Climber Mospeda).
Flagship: U.S.S. Ikazuchi (Odyssey-Class Tactical Cruiser). The Ikazuchi-class were the carriers that had the quick-launch Alpha Bays on the sides. I liked the name and it's stuck with me. Also, Ikazuchi is a Japanese word for Lightning and was a class of destroyer in the 19th Century. U.S.S. Izumo (Heavy Cruiser Retrofit). That was the huge command ship that appeared at the end of Mospeda. In Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, they renamed it as the SDF-4 Liberator. U.S.S. Ark Angel (Galaxy-Class). The Ark Angel was the colony ship that appeared at the end of The Shadow Chronicles.
After that, I went with some other naming conventions
U.S.S. Newport News: Ushaan-class. Named after the destroyer my dad served on as a gunner. U.S.S. Britannia: Ambassador-class. That was the name that came with it and I thought it was a good name for a ship. U.S.S. Graviton City (Sovereign-class). Named after the main setting for Project A-ko, one of my favorite anime movies. And yes, I do have bridge officers on it named A-ko, B-ko, and C-ko! I.S.S. Elizabeth Bathroy (Mirror Patrol Escort). I came with the name Elizabeth, so I thought since it was from the Mirror Universe that it sounded like it should be named after The Blood Countess. I.S.S. Dark Star (Mirror Deep Space Science Vessel). Named after the John Carpenter film. It also just sounded evil!
For my Federation small ships, I have a runabout called U.S.S. New River, which is a river near where my grandparents lived. I also a Type-8 Shuttle called the Ryo-Ohki, which is named after the cabbit in Tenchi-Muyo!
For my Romulan alt, she's in a ship called the Flamebird--a name of one of the crime-fighting duo on Krypton in the Superman comics. My Klingon alt sails on a ship called the Turisas, which is named after a symphonic metal band that got their name from a Finnish god of war.
DJ Kei, in MMO Radio, flies the U.S.S. Xee-Nisu
The origin of this name involves a friend and fleet member, who's best friend had passed away a couple years ago. Her nickname was Xee, and her main character was named Nisu. So, in honor of her, I have named his Ambassador-class retrofit, the Xee-Nisu.
Nilara Keil flies the U.S.S. Mercury 7
This ship was named in honor of America's first Astronauts in the Mercury Program, dubbed the "Mercury 7"
Alan B. Shepard - spacedraft "Freedom 7" - May 5, 1961
Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom - spacecraft "Liberty Bell 7" - July 21, 1961
John H. Glenn - spacecraft "Friendship 7" - February 20, 1962
Donald K. "Deke" Slayton - spacecraft "Delta 7" grounded due to heart condition
Malcolm Scott Carpenter - spacecraft "Aurora 7" - May 24, 1962
Walter M. "Wally" Scherra - spacecraft "Sigma 7" - October 3, 1962
Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper - spacecraft "Faith 7" - May 15, 1963
Reiko flies the U.S.S. Endeavour
The naming scheme of her ships follow the lineage of the US Space Shuttles
U.S.S. Columbia
U.S.S. Challenger
U.S.S. Discovery
U.S.S. Atlantis
U.S.S. Endeavour
I also named the NX I claimed for the grappler as the U.S.S. Enterprize, just to give it a name. Considering it never flew, it fit with the shuttles as the original Enterprise never flew.
Cameron flies the U.S.S. Phoenicia
the lineage of his craft all originate from the game series Descent: Freespace
U.S.S. Galatea
U.S.S. Bastion
U.S.S. Krios
U.S.S. Aquitaine
U.S.S. Psamtik
the Phoenicia is the only vessel you don't actually serve on. An NPC warship, nearly destroyed by the Shivan Juggernaut "Sathanas"
Himeko flying the U.S.S. Medusa also followed Freespace, instead of warships, she uses Bomber-classes
U.S.S. Valkyrie (interceptor, not bomber, but could carry a heavy warhead)
U.S.S. Athena
U.S.S. Medusa (name retained via retrofit-class)
U.S.S. Ursa
U.S.S. Zeus
U.S.S. Artemis
Luna flies an elongated Star Cruiser, named U.S.S. Longcat
yeah... she's Caitian :P
all other names are fairly random, or Klingon translations of things like "black raptor"
Paid STO subscriber since December 2010, and DJ for mmo-radio

AKS Emperor Reclaw (Mirror Vo'quv-class) - named after the Emperor Reclaw. Loving this ship, I find it better than the normal version and would love to have a fleet version of it.
I have a bunch of other ships, but those are the ones with more story to their name.
Good choice!
As a history buff, I can't believe I'd not heard of Shen Kuo before reading this wiki link. Thanks for pointing this out!

Well.. there are many more, but that should do for today !!!
USS Dallas (NCC361836-A) - Defiant Class
USS Florida (NCC361513) - Sovereign Class (Mirror)
USS Stonewall Jackson (NCC241861) - Prometheus Class
Great movie.
"No matter where you go...there you are."
The origin of this name involves a friend and fleet member, who's best friend had passed away a couple years ago. Her nickname was Xee, and her main character was named Nisu. So, in honor of her, I have named his Ambassador-class retrofit, the Xee-Nisu.

Reiko flies the U.S.S. Endeavour
The naming scheme of her ships follow the lineage of the US Space Shuttles
U.S.S. Columbia
U.S.S. Challenger
U.S.S. Discovery
U.S.S. Atlantis
U.S.S. Endeavour
I also named the NX I claimed for the grappler as the U.S.S. Enterprize, just to give it a name. Considering it never flew, it fit with the shuttles as the original Enterprise never flew.

the lineage of his craft all originate from the game series Descent: Freespace
U.S.S. Galatea
U.S.S. Bastion
U.S.S. Krios

U.S.S. Psamtik
the Phoenicia is the only vessel you don't actually serve on. An NPC warship, nearly destroyed by the Shivan Juggernaut "Sathanas"
Himeko flying the U.S.S. Medusa also followed Freespace, instead of warships, she uses Bomber-classes
U.S.S. Valkyrie (interceptor, not bomber, but could carry a heavy warhead)
U.S.S. Athena
U.S.S. Medusa (name retained via retrofit-class)
U.S.S. Ursa
U.S.S. Zeus
U.S.S. Artemis
Luna flies an elongated Star Cruiser, named U.S.S. Longcat
yeah... she's Caitian :P
all other names are fairly random, or Klingon translations of things like "black raptor"
