this is 'prime time' to many people, all over the world. what is annoying many of us is that the constant daily maintenance is always at the same times, and always causes the same people to lose their only opportunity to play sto every single day.
maybe it would be great if they would share the love and offset it by a few hours now and again.
Question - Does the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?
Question - If the maintenance is not performed, for whatever reason, will the end result cause hardship in you STO life?
Question - If the Dev's , and PR spokesman, countless other in their ships crew, given time and the least amount of impediment, to address critical issues. Will they be fixed?
It would seem that your wants/needs are being address in as timely a manor as they can produce them.
Is it possibly a perception problem? An emotional response from not receiving said stimuli? Is that not indicative of what called an ?Addict??
Question ? Do you require professional help? I can have a medical team beamed down immediately.
q1. it depends on the circumstance if the many should be saved, for example if a few good people have to die to a large pack of murderers and pirates? so they can keep up their violence. you think the many should be saved, or the few?
q2. sto life? your just trolling for the hell of it.
q3. if i interprit your strange way of asking; if the devs identify the issues, you think they will solve them? i dunno im not a dev you go ask one for an answer.
q4. more trolling...
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
to the op just get off the computer and do something else if they dont try to fix the issues the server will not come back up ever they have some issues its been a big launch PWE is not much better at giving time then EA its how gaming companies make money they push content out at breakneck pace its what they must do to survive.
if you can't stand the downtime then move on to another game a single player game...there is no downtime there.
well , what can i say i spent hundreds a bucks on the game and ive played 1 hrs total ina week.....
i come back today thinking to test if the bugs are sorted ...and its down....
What can I say? I started playing 2 days before the launch of LoR and i've levelled 2 chars to 50 in that time. I've had a great 2 weeks on STO. Yeah the bugs, fixes, and patches are as annoying as hell but that's life. In fact i'm so impressed with STO that i paid for the LTS today after having already spent circa 40 sterling on the Connie, keys and costumes.
I really don't get why everyone thinks they are entitled to an instant dev response and detailed info about what bits are being changed from 1 to zero and vise versa. "we're working on it and trying to fix it" is all the info needed by us, We don't need to see, or indeed have any right to know, the itty bitty details of maintenance logs & reports.
Seriously some people need to re-examine their perspective on life. Losing 3.5 hours game time in a 24 hour period is NOT life affecting.
Despite my join date, I've only been playing STO a week after several years of CHAMPIONS ONLINE and a week or so of NEVERWINTER. I played this game extremely briefly a few years back but didn't think it was my cup of tea, despite being a fan of the franchise. Have come back, due to some good WOM spread around in a non-gaming forum I visit, and have been pleasantly surprised by the expansion. I'm absolutely loving the Romulan campaign!
That said, these daily maintenance breaks do worry me slightly. I hope they will begin to fix whatever is causing them because it's really annoying to have to log out for a few hours each day due to whatever is going on behind the scenes...

When Star Trek Online came out, 3 years ago, i considered buying a lifetime subscription.
Being a Trek fan since i was a boy, i was very much tempted to jump in, however, the price being 299$ made me ponder.
So far, all Star Trek games were not really up to expectations...
So, i put the box back on the shelf and walked away...
In January 2013, i found out that Star Trek Online was now a Free 2 Play game, JOY!
I could now play the game freely and enjoy my passion as a Trek Fan and go Boldly!
I was impressed with the Graphic quality of the game and i enjoyed playing it, at first.
After 3 days of play, i realised how little content this MMO really had...
It took me 5 days to get to Vice Admiral, and was left with a sour taste about how long i could play this game...
I mean compared to other MMO where you need at least 8-12 months of play before reaching endgame stuff...
In all these 3 years since i left that box on the shelf at the store... that's all the content people got?
I no longer have regrets about not buying a lifetime sub.
To be honest, i'm a DEV and i couldn't believe the amount of bugs i saw when i first started to play, and the game was 3 years in the making already.
After reading the forums and talking with other players, most of which are lifetimers, i found out that many of these bugs were there at the beginning and were never fixed!
Please don't let this game go down the same path as many of the other Star Trek games.
This game has so much potential and such a loyal costumer base (even with all the problems the game his experiencing now and in the past)
that i do NOT understand why the people at CRYPTIC do not take the TIME to talk the real deal with the LIFETIMERS at least.
After all, THEY are the one that writes your PAYCHECK...
They deserve the right to KNOW what is happening about all the donwtime and the unfixed bugs and what CRYPTIC is going to do about it.
The way that CRYPTIC is handling the current situation with the release of LoR, is just
unnaceptable! Aggravating your customers is NOT the way to do business.
I would like to personnaly thank Brandon on his valiant effort to keep us informed about what is going on, that being said, that's not enough!
Hi Captains! Maintenance is going well! We will need a few extra minutes to do our final checks, and expect to be back up within the hour.
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
Thank you for the information. ^_^ Any word on when we will see the bugs fixed that everyone here is talking about? I haven't been hit by them myself (save for the 750z in Ship Customization but I used the Randomize to get around that) but it seems others have and curious how long it will take your team that is assigned that to give us some heads up?
I know you guys work tirelessly and am glad you do it at all. It takes dedication and enjoyment of your job to do it right. So take your time and get it done right. I'll be playing around tomorrow sometime as I got plans today.
Just because I see this misused quite a lot, within the hour, or within an hour?

Yeah David Icke is a total nutjob. I still never got over his statement that the Royal Family were evil, shapeshifting, blood sucking lizards. Icke makes me ashamed to be British with all his crackpot nonsense.
OP I can understand your frustration but you have a snowballs chance in Hell of getting any form of compensation. I'm pretty sure it says in the EULA that the game is subject to maintenance at any time etc.
So as Khan would say "You sir are in a position to demand nothing".
Yeah its crappy when you consider the level of your monetary investment but unfortunately thats businesses for you. One would like to hope with all the downtime is that they are actually addressing problems instead of having a lengthy coffee break.
Unfortunately given their rather limited feedback which is frequentally referred to as "General Server Stability" the customer is never kept informed and as such the amount of daily negative complaints on the forum rocket. If they said "We have to perform server upgrades for a two week period and after that we will start to fix bugs", I think people would be happier to have at least been provided some form of explanation.

The only gripe I have with downtime is that scheduled downtime is ALWAYS! in the middle of the European day it should be alternated fairly but this is not just a Cryptic thing this happens with all American based servers. The weekly downtime should be done in the middle of the American's daytime twice a month and in the middle of the European's day time Twice a month.
As for expecting to be paid per hour for the downtime that is an interesting idea but the amounts you are quoting are completely ludicrous. What they should have is people should be compensated for what they could have reasonably farmed in game in the time of the downtime as a big chunk of downtime does effect ones dilithium grind ect. So maybe 500 dil and 100K EC for each Level 50 toon per hour of downtime.
However we all understand that MMORPG's come with downtime and we accept that as a consequence.
As someone already stated those who really get angry about Downtime really need to asses their life as it appears that they have no real life to go to when STO is down. People should remember that it is a game and it is meant to be a temporary escape from the complications of real life, not a substitute for it!!!
I've been playing STO since open beta in 2009 and I can tell you with confidence but not 100% assurance since I am not a Dev, what some of the causes of daily maintenance needs are lately.
1.) They have Neverwinter open beta and LOR going on simultaneously. The games ARE connected by the chat servers, and it's no coincidence we have had Champions, STO and NW go down the same time for the same length of time several weeks ago.
Bad data must likely drift through some shared network, but also it's the sheer fact we have two big game launches that are getting large amounts of play. This daily engineering will be expected.
2.) The Foundry--In my experience every seasonal big update causes issues with the Foundry and breaks missions, I have a few bugged missions I made and reviews show the players cannot complete those missions and well..I'm getting the kind of "reviews" that reflect unhappy players who think I can fix the bug and why haven't I yet? lol.
Yes, but at the time, within the hour would of been 42 minutes

does this mean you found the root cause of instability to prevent the need for constant maintenance?

No one brings up the issue that we were having so much "unexpected downtime" that is when "Star trek Offline" really got it's monikier going.
So you see months or a year from now - no-one will be mentioning this.
