the prepatch has been on for a week so if you are all up to date with that then you should only have to download another 50megs or so.
It's a patch for new interface etc so not just for the "rom stuff"
go and have a coffee and come back in 20
Unfortunatly , alot of peeps had issues witht he prepatch actually crashing halfway , and are now stuck with slow TRIBBLE speeds in an era where there shouldnt be any slow TRIBBLE dl speeds anymore.
Its slow download thats causing problems. I started my patch at 11:00am. It is now 2:56pm and its still not complete as I finished the main patch then it started patching a 184MB patch which has been hung up on 40.2% for the past 30 minutes.
I am to the point of pulling the plug and trying again tomorrow as I've wasted almost an entire day on this.
Yeah, I've been playing all week, downloaded several 'patches', and yet when I logged in like five hours ago to start patching, there was over 6 GB that needed patched still. It went okay at first and then bogged down to modem level speeds.
I've now spent over an hour trying to download the last 200mb, which keeps restarting.
Patently unacceptable, especially given that a bittorrent based patching system as used by WoW could've prevented any subtantial load problems.
Well in that case they had years and years to come up with a solution for this kind of issues.
Either you are trolling very hard, or you really dont understand that as MMOs grow over the years they change, and assimilate to new ideas...i.e. new UI etc.... Sorry if you dont care, but deal with it all MMOs do this as its the nature of the game to grow, evolve over time not to stay stale and stagnate.....
You are not missing anything, and can soon be on.....
Welcome to release day where everything slows to a crawl and you cannot play due to the heavy traffic on the servers. This is normal really but could have been less of a problem by not putting the patch in one place. offering a torrent would have aleviated allot of the traffic and renting some servers for the week just to cover the patch would have finished the remaining bottleneck.

Seriously dude? Get over yourself. It's patch day. Specifically for an expansion. They're going to have issues. It will be resolved, and you can be patient. Or you can whine, and make yourself look like a 10 year old child.
Your call.

I disagree. Providing enough bandwith or servercapacity so people can download fast and play the game is not neccesarily hampered by new releases.

Yeah, except the particular 'launch day problem' they're having is one that HAS been solved.
Slow patch download caused by overloading. Which *is* absurd at this point in time, when several, much large games have already solved it... at minimal cost, since the solution is both open source and requires very minimal additional infrastructure.

If it were bugs, or server instability, that'd be one thing. This is a simple overload of the patching system, and it's the first time I've seen this problem in nearly a decade... because it's been SOLVED.
Don't play on patchday. My download worked, but now I'm number 500 something in the login queue. Guess by the time I'm able to play it's bed time. But one day without playing won't kill me.

I am simply stating that accusing me from being not patient , is nonsence in my opinion. I am also stating that almost every one has a limited ammount of patience. I do not know anyone with unlimited patience, so accusing me of lack of patience is dening the fact that most people show unpatience in certain circumstances. So only if you are never unpatient yourselve, blaming me of the same is making sense. If i am unpatient I am unpatient. Your response is not helping me at all in dealing with it.

Personally, I've been trying to get this installed for over five hours...I haven't seen a download this slow since about 2004.

While I'll agree that it is very slow right now, you must not have played Age of Conan on launch day...now that my friend was an endeavor in patience: 25gig at almost dial up speeds due to server overload...

Noooope.
Really sad that *** had that problem for that matter...it ought to be a legal requirement to use a Bittorrent patching system...
Edit: Apparently the abbreviation of Age of Conan is a naughty word according to the forum. *facepalm*

I am currently still downloading with 1kb/sec on a 150Mb/sec connection. After almost 2 hours I have been able to download 16% of 128MB.
I've got 10 GB to download, but I'm not complaining. Quit your crying. Adapt and overcome. Go read a book. Wash your car. Take your dog for a walk. Whining about it on a forum is not going to make the download time any faster.

That is some really convoluted logic you're trying to use. Also, your grammar needs some work.
Seriously, have you never played an MMO during a major release? Even Blizzard can't keep up; the Mists of Pandaria launch was hilariously laggy & buggy due to the sheer number of peopley trying to play. This isn't new, nor is it as easy as using a P2P download (as that doesn't help with the server load of many more people trying to play at once).

It is only typical for a company that has no clue on how to put out a decent dl speed for a patch. Plenty of games with way more players patch weekly with no issue. Stop making excuses for Cryptic. I did preload the patch but it still needed 50mb to launch and those 50mb have been taking over 4 hours to dl. Not my connection it is on their side.

In other words, this is pretty typical when a major patch/expansion hits an MMO. Nothing new.

This is delaying my reputation schedule on my FED character.
You'll be able to ,when it is all patched and ready.
You do realize that this patch isn't JUST Romulans, right? It adds content for everyone, including Feds.

The game has only had three years since it's been going and there are plenty of people looking to get into the game. Just be patient.

It should never take hours to download 128MB.

Why this prepatching nonsence and still I am not ingame almost 2 hours after release, because still 128MB needs to be downloaded at 1kb/sec?
