What's the difference? Most employers these days allow their employees to be on the internet, as long as they get their work done on time and aren't on TRIBBLE sites.
Work time (right now) and with what I have coming up in 2 weeks my boss really does not care lol.
NERF CANNONS - THEY NEED A 50% NERF
CRUISERS NEED A 206% HULL BUFF
They should have known that tens of thousands of other people have the same idea and are going to be doing the same thing. Of course things are going to be slowed down to a crawl.
I made the characters I wanted and logged off to make room for others who want to get online. I'm not in any rush and the game will be more fun to play once the brujah dies down in a couple of days.
Do you also do that when you sit in a restaurant you ordered food, it takes hours and hours, and when it comes you take a couple of bites, leave the tabel to make room for other eaters? Eat the food a couple of day's later when it is cold?
Probably not. The point is Cryptic should simply deliver acceptable download speeds.
All right, we get it. You're getting slow download speeds, and you're annoyed about it.
Slow download speeds for an MMO on an Expansion launch day is not anything new or special, and despite the doomsaying of some people on this forum it is not going to cause a plague of locusts or cause the Earth to split in two.
Now, you can either keep running around like headless chickens, going on and on about how you're going to cancel your lifetime subscription unless Cryptic immediately implements a Torrent-based updater, as if that will instantly and magically solve every problem with the game, or you can just learn to be patient.

Your choice.
I am patient in cases when the cause could not be prevented.
Would that be the same opportunity that everyone else had on the prepatch?
Yeah, thought so, that's the same prepatch that nearly everyone wasn't able to download!
Except that it's pretty well established at this point that there's a large fraction of people who DID download the prepatch, and were forced to redownload the entire patch anyway. Some of them apparently even downloaded the prepatch multiple times.
And I've been waiting on 200mb to finish for better than two and a half hours. I started patching prior to 9AM PDT. It's not done.
If the pre-patch didn't work for you then you should have downloaded the tribble patch.
I'm still not seeing the issue with long patch times. Then again, I've played MMOs before.
Funny thing, I was on tribble to get my hour in (and then some, and talked to Tacoface), and prepatched, and STILL had to 'patch' over 6gb...most of which went okay. About two hours prior to the scheduled end of maintenance, I started to worry it wasn't going to finish in time. It didn't.
First World problems. If slow download speed is the worst problem you have, you're doing better than 99.975% of the planet. Perspective.
Actually my biggest problem is that I have recurring major depressive disorder, which has almost totally ruined my life, have no insurance, and am out of meds.
A completely avoidable patching system problem that had a solution developed almost a decade ago is maybe number 4.
But it's the relevant one, especially to cryptic, because who knows how many people that hadn't played in awhile and wanted to play with the romulans will decide it's not worth waiting on the patch, wander off...and just not come back?
Not explicitly quit, just never get around to trying again?
I'll concede those points. Maybe I did get lucky with the prepatch working and maybe my running the launcher during the downtime also helped me avoid the traffic jam others are experiencing.
I was running it during the downtime too...It was about 10AM PDT I realized that at the rate it was going it might not finish in time, and it just kept getting slower, and slower, and slower, and slower...
I had a problem with things downloading a few years ago with another game that used a system similar to Cryptics. I was advised to switch internet providers (it was a cable company) which I did and the problem went away.
Is it in the realm of possibility that this is Cryptics fault? Yes. But in my experience other things are just as likely to be contributing to the problem.
Just sayin.
Given that I have a 10mbit connection, literally DOZENS of other people are complaining about the same problem (and there's probably dozens more for each one of those posting that are experiencing it and AREN'T on the forums), I've never had this problem before, even with Cryptic, and I've already gone over everything on my end...
No, it's not possible it's anything but Cryptic. Especially since there's BRIGHT RED AND YELLOW announcement about it.
Edit: Well that's interesting. Restarted my launcher for the 15th time or so, it didn't load properly, but according to the progress thing in the titlebar (the one that's supposed to be on the page didn't load right either), it's going the faster than it has in the last five hours!
Edit2: Well, it bogged down again. But it got almost half of the last 120mb. That's the most progress I've made since the server came up!
Edit3: Restarted again when it bogged down at 67.1%...and none of it was kept. Back to 128mb to go.
Edit4: And that time it managed about 0.1 MB/s up to 70 MB, spiked to 120, and then finished the last 8MB in a second or two.
Yeah...maybe the patch servers aren't just overloaded. It might be deeper than that. I pity the foos that have to figure that one out. (Actually I kinda wish I was one of them, tbh... I love fixing things, especially computer problems).

Exactly. I work for the federal government and I commute 4 hours a day so I wanted to come home to it being done

Common sense would agree with you. Common sense does not exist in this thread.

Your prepatch actually worked, you got lucky, or already had it finished before it bogged down to AOL speeds.

I don't care how long you've been playing. I only care about how you play.
And remember to follow the rules.

So I guess into queue I go!
